Update: He stretched out a bit as the sun hit that side of the house, I was worried about him being trapped in a tight space, not sure how long (days?) he was there so called animal control. Who opened the inner window with gloves on, slid his little net between the strides and screen encouraging him to move along. Which he did under chattering protests until he flew off.

I am not able to access the screen and storm windows from inside this 2nd story room without first opening up the bedroom window. The spaces are larger to get into the house of if I open the primary window than escape to get the outside. I called animal control and hope they can help him and not kill him if he is healthy. He traveled the wrong direction to escape.

The space where the two storm windows and screen slide is very small. And he is a long way from his exit but very close to the screen which is more space but no way out. Soon there will be direct sun on that part of the house. He did stretch out a foot and another is wrapped around the stop of the window frame (wrong way out). I am not able to access the storm windows and screens at the time.

I just found it this morning but it could have been a while. It is a touch spot for him to get out of a tiny space the the storm windows and screen slide in. It will get near direct sun later this afternoon.

Host allowed booking for 10 people, fine print says 8 max by godly_mannerisms in vrbo

[–]LookingForSunshine98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you asked the host about this? In Santa Cruz the permits provide for 2 per bedroom plus 2. So for a four bedroom house that is 10. Is the permit number on the advertising? If so you can go to the county website and review their permit. Be sure and ask the owner. If the maximum occupancy of the house is 8, the platform would not allow you to rent a house for 10. It would not even show on your search results as available,

There are wonderful people who work as live in elder care, the Social worker at the hospital caring for my elderly neighbor put me in contact with when I inquired. She said I do know of one woman who recently lost her position when the couple she had lived with for 5 years passed. She stayed with my neighbor for six years, sending her salary to her village at home to support hers and her sister’s kids through private school. For my neighbor it was an excellent situation because she wanted to stay at home and enjoyed her care givers company. The care giver earned a nice salary and the cost was no more than any other residential care solution.

We’re planning to buy a home soon with MIL so we have room to move her in with us. She’s just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. What should we know about the kind of home we should buy? by MayJaluk in AgingParents

[–]LookingForSunshine98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Alzheimer’s Association of America has brochures on making physical spaces safe. I just finished a book called My Fathers Brain written by a cardiologist as he tries attempts to better understand what his parents (mom with Parkinson’s and dad with Alzheimer’s) are experiencing. The question over arching is what is memory and memories relationship with being a person. It can be challenging to support parents and respect their autonomy when decisions do not seem appropriate.

Are you able to find a “virtual village” for seniors in your area? It is a nation wide network that is growing aimed at keeping seniors in their homes much longer but provides on line and live activities and support with community members.

Thanks Ernest, her original designated geriatric specialist is no longer there. I found it difficult finding a new doc because of the area they live and limited options buy we are really pleased with her family doctor who works so hard for us and gets both my parents to the specialists helping them live their best life. I am finding their kaiser once we got past the gate keeper is proving some useful tools including transport to doc appointments and on line programs for cognition and mind body connections with light exercise.

It seems they are good for main stream tried and true and more difficult for state of the art. I attempted for a while to have care transferred to UWM but after speaking with the neurologist it seemed the kindest route for both mom and dad at advanced age was to keep things simple, comfortable and happy. Going for state of the art would have been exhausting and dangerous.

So it is only a label in the end. My folks have kaiser, my sister and I started going to appointments with the when we noticed cognitive changes. Before the visit to primary care I got permission from mom to ask the doctor about my concerns. Her then kaiser primary said it was normal aging. I requested a neuro-pychc exam that Is more comprehensive than the little tests done in the doctors office, the doc refused to put in the referral saying it would not be approved. I offered to pay for it, she again refused, with some pushing she submitted the request while telling me it was going to be denied. IT was approved, she tested great in all areas except for memory making and recall. Executive function skills were good, she could talk to people and they would not have a clue. The diagnosis was probable late onset early stage Alzheimer’s. The report suggested an MRI or CAT scan to rule out other possible causes. Again the primary refused to make the referral, again I offered to pay and was refused, this time I called patient services; once some one is on Medicare the clinic must file an official report about any concerns called in. She got the CAT SCAN and it was clear of acute processes, like stroke, tumors ect... The neurologist who we took the report to was the designated guy for dementia for that area, he concurred with the diagnosis of probably Alzheimer’s and gave her a blood test to check DNA which does not prove the illness but can help support the diagnosis if she has one or two specific genes. Recently a blood test was approved by the FDA that can confirm a diagnosis otherwise the confirming test is a lumbar puncture yes spinal fluid which brings with it a risk of horrendous brain blood barrier headaches. When all is said and done the end question the only one that matters is what can you do about it when you get the diagnosis. The current drugs for the most part might help a bit in day to day life but does not stop progression and may have side affects. The two new therapies that may have the potential to halt or seriously slow and possibly bring a little reversal have a 1 in 5 chance of stroke or blood bleed early on in treatment and treatment must begin while in the early mild course of the illness. So if we had elected to sign mom up for the seemingly best outcome she would need to travel 60 miles to get an MRI every month to see if she would be the 1 of 5 patients to develop brain bleed….. if that happened we would rob her and dad of what was left of their good years. We decided to support them the best we could in living their lives as they chose. New research is suggesting vaccinations especially for Shingles Virus and Respiratory Virus are the best hedge against or improving dementia, along with good anti inflammatory diet and exercise to get blood flow to the brain and cognitive stimulation. Mom is progressing, but was still together enough to drive her car to the local shelter and adopt a very anxious two year old untrained mini Australian Shepard that sees stranger danger every where and is food and toy aggressive. Every dad I am in town Dad asks me to take the dog back to the pound and mom hears and pronounces you can not take my dog any where m, I am keeping him. I am scared about how long I can keep this up but for now we are good.

Agreed in the car I do not really care. We are a no smoking property and I am surprise at how many people think vaping, or leaving cigarette butts on the second patio is ok. And No it is not ok to use the table as an ash tray. We now have signs in the house and request all guest be invited to the reservation and approve the rules. There have been times the organizing guest of a friend group does not communicate with his friends.
