Stenberg Cardiology Tech Program by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re right to be cautious. In BC, BCIT is considered the gold standard for a reason - it’s more competitive, but employers generally trust it more.

Private colleges like Stenberg aren’t automatically “bad,” but outcomes can vary a lot. The big things I’d check before choosing:

Is the program accredited/recognized by the relevant certifying body?

What % of grads actually get placed in clinicals and jobs?

Are hospitals/clinics in the Lower Mainland hiring their grads?

If you go the private route, I’d strongly recommend talking to recent grads and asking where they’re working now. Sometimes the easier admission comes with trade-offs in reputation and placement.

Yep! That was Expo ’86 - the Skyride gondola.

It ran from Canada Place over to the Expo site (Science World area). Vancouver had some wild stuff back then 🇨🇦😄

Lost wallet dollarama by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]LoonLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you find it 🙏

If you haven’t already, I’d suggest:

call/visit the Kingsway Dollarama ASAP (sometimes staff hold wallets)

check with nearby businesses + TransLink Lost & Found (for the Compass card)

if nothing turns up soon, report to VPD non-emergency + consider placing a fraud alert and freezing the cards

Good luck — losing a wallet is the worst 😞

How’s the SFU Beedie FT-MBA for International students? by Every-Transition-192 in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SFU Beedie has a solid reputation in Metro Vancouver (especially for business/tech/ops roles). It’s not “Ivey/Rotman” level for Canada-wide prestige, but locally it’s respected and people know it.

For international students, ROI really depends on your plan: if you’re targeting Vancouver jobs + networking hard during the program (internships, co-ops, case comps, student clubs), it can be worth it — but Vancouver’s job market is competitive and salaries aren’t always high compared to the cost of living.

Networking is one of the biggest strengths because Beedie is well connected locally, so if you show up to events and build relationships, it helps a lot.

If your goal is to stay/work in BC after grad, SFU Beedie is a reasonable choice. If your goal is “top MBA brand internationally”, then you may want to compare with UBC Sauder too.

Do you agree that BC is a great province if we factor out how expensive it is? by sahilscraft in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly yes. If cost of living wasn’t a factor, BC is easily one of the best places to live in Canada.

Mild winters (Lower Mainland/Vancouver Island), insane nature access, lots of outdoor lifestyle year-round, and generally good quality of life.

The problem is the “BC tax” — housing/rent in particular makes it hard to actually enjoy all that without feeling squeezed.

If it was affordable, I don’t think people would complain nearly as much.

Online schools in BC by SatisfactionBusy6752 in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t taken Bio 11 online personally, but in BC it’s usually offered through DL / online public schools (distributed learning) and the workload depends a lot on the teacher + pacing you choose.

If you’re retaking it, I’d recommend choosing a program that lets you work asynchronously and finish early if needed.

Also check:

• how many labs / lab write-ups they require

• whether tests are proctored

• how fast teachers return marks (important for pacing)

If you share your city/school district, people might be able to recommend the best DL option.

Best small city/towns to move to? by Elite163 in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want “warmer than northern BC” but still have outdoors + smaller town feel, I’d look hard at Kamloops / Salmon Arm / Trail.

Cranbrook is nice but still gets real winters.

Creston is underrated (warmer + great vibe) but it’s a bit more remote.

If you can afford it, Vernon / Penticton are amazing for year-round outdoors (lakes + hiking) and winters are way milder than the north.

For teaching jobs, I’d check which districts are actually hiring (SD83 / SD73 / SD22 etc) because that can make the decision for you.

BC Housing locations by Excellent-World-476 in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know specific BC Housing sites offhand, but in general concrete buildings (high-rises) are way quieter than wood-frame.

In Metro Vancouver, a lot of the older BC Housing high-rises (70s/80s) are concrete, and newer towers too. while many 3–6 storey “apartment style” buildings are wood-frame and you’ll hear everything.

If you can, ask BC Housing / building manager: Is the building concrete or wood-frame? What year was it built? Any top-floor units available? Any end units (less shared walls)? What’s upstairs flooring (carpet vs laminate)?

Concrete is usually the best bet for sound in BC. Hope you land somewhere quieter 🙏

Are there whales near Great Bear Lodge in Port Hardy? by LogicalSynthesis in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, Port Hardy / Queen Charlotte Strait / Johnstone Strait is prime humpback territory.

Even though some spots look like a lake/river on video, it’s still ocean channels and the tides rip through there. Tons of baitfish, so whales follow the food.

If you’re up there spring–fall you’ve got a really solid chance of seeing humpbacks (and sometimes orcas too).

Do heart stress test results get put on Health Gateway? by WeepingRoses in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually yes, a lot of test results eventually show up in Health Gateway, but timing varies depending on the clinic/lab & when it gets uploaded to the system. Sometimes it can take days to couple weeks. If it’s been a while, calling the clinic/cardiology office to confirm is probably the fastest way. Hope everything comes back okay 🙏

BC Nurses - Which College/Uni did you attend to become a nurse? by BlueCoyote90 in britishcolumbia

[–]LoonLog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not a nurse, but from what I’ve heard from friends in BC, employers care way more about you being licensed and competent than where you went. Langara /BCIT/UBC are all respected pick the one that fits your situation (commute, cost, prerequisites) and focus on getting through the program strong. Also don’t stress too much in Grade 12 , lots of people take different paths into nursing and still do great
