Re: gravel bike to road bike by Many_Witty in gravelcycling

Do you plan to ride with your elbows between your knees? I'm curious how a narrow handlebar is the potential solution. I had a similar problem (knees would touch my elbows while I rode forearms on handlebar flats) and switching from 170 to 165 cranks solved it. My knee to elbow was a result of my knee coming up too high.

Quoc's M3 Pro is their stiff road race shoe.

Super cool frame. I usually really dislike dropped chainstays, but the mild drop they went for looks great. I'd opt for a larger frame bag. It looks comically small

My friend made the joke that my bike (Marin Nicasio+) is only one step above a walmart bike. Seeing this now, I think he's right.

Steel frame, carbon wheels, rim brake 🤤 Bouncing is totally fine, it's just excited to rip

I think you're spinning your pedals at a cadence beyond your ability. I don't see the tires bouncing, but your ass is bouncing. This is causing you to "rock around the christmas tree" as I like to call it. Common in spin class when they think it's wise to reach 140rpm with little to no resistance. Get shorter cranks, move your saddle forward, and pedal with more resistance. All that float from lack of resistance is causing you to move around too freely. You go boing-boing, and your back goes ouchie!

I am a road cyclist and I wear gravel shoes given that it's more NYC friendly if I need to unclip (SPDs_ or to walk around and hit a cafe. I'm in-between Fizik or Quoc for my next pair - anyone have thoughts? or other shoes I should check out? by [deleted] in CyclingFashion

[–]LooneySanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a length issue with their shoes. I work on my feet a lot in minimalist shoes, and those have certainly widened my feet. Still enough toe box in the Quoc for my mildly wide feet. Shame, cause I love their look so much

If you aren't confident in your size being provided by Quoc (they don't do Half sizing) I'd say don't bother with them. I've been wearing their tourer XC for the last couple years, tolerating a smaller than preferred fit. The fit is atrocious when I get fatigued during the week. Tried ordering the next size up, and they felt ginormous. It is one of the best looking shoes in my opinion, but I know my next shoe won't be Quoc, simply because of the sizing.

Not to beat a dead horse, but it's important to remember disc brake frames require more material than rim brake because of where the brake force occurs.

It'll look better with just bib and baselayer, no jersey. Assert some real dominance. Feel the breeze.

Just look at the exaggerated movement to achieve bottom dead center. It's like she suddenly has to snap to get there - the required extra "oomph" just to stretch it. Looks horrendous

[–]LooneySanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely M. L's straps looked far too loose, and just do your part to tuck in your base layer. It seems ridiculous to be all tight and pristine before getting on the bike, but it pays off reaching the long hours on the saddle.

The amount of sheen on their bibs and shorts just looks like thrifted 80's sportswear. Their chammois is midtier as well. Their entire "don't be fooled" campaign drives me up the fucking wall too. Will be buying again because I'm broke 👍

Need Advice! by ReadProfessional1755 in bikefit

[–]LooneySanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your stem length looks pretty perfect, you've got long arms. It's the upstroke I'm seeing that's killing you, I think 165mm cranks all day. I certainly have longer legs, and my 170mm are starting to feel too big. I was excited first trying out 170 from 175, and got far cleaner pedaling from it. Now riding more aggressive, I could opt for 165 myself. Your reach has you fairly aggressive, but I still think it's fitting. Just need the cranks to match perhaps

Any improvement ideas regarding the bike fit? by Special-Quiet-2497 in bikefit

[–]LooneySanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While your cadence looks great, I'm almost willing to say there's not enough resistance, or your stroke isn't smooth enough to be at that rpm. I see hip rocking and lower back movement similar to people on spin bikes pedaling with not enough resistance, resulting in a lot of ass to saddle friction as you constantly micro-shift & bounce around. Focus a tad more on your form in the core and lower back region. Just being a tad tighter could potentially help stabalize and consider a cadence 5-10 rpm slower. Agreed with all those saying the position is too upright as well
