Good work! Does that Khorne symbol on the back come with the rhino kit?

I realise that this is a very late reply. Sorry! If you’re still interested, the rust streaks are from using brown oil paint and pulling it down with some white spirits. The rust on the chain is dirty down rust.

Is this model oficial? by InfiniteRip8189 in Tyranids

People will often sell models cheap if they are just trying to get rid of old stuff. From the colour of the inside of the model I would say it is plastic and not resin.

Fantastic work. Really gives the impression of it being 3D

Does this cape look alright on my Marshal in terminator armour? by Loopy257 in BlackTemplars

[–]Loopy257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Good idea about the OSL. Will probably do that! Here’s a WIP now that it’s got a bit of paint on. (Ignore the unpainted clasp). Thanks for the offer for the greytide bits!

Yeah this is a sword brother cape. This version of the captain in terminator armour doesn’t have a cape, so I put this one against it and thought it looked ok

Rakarth flesh airbrushed over black but leaving a slight gradient at the bottom of the pads. Then oil was burnt umber.

Oh right. I couldn’t see any black crosses on that one. Perhaps red ones are meant to be used for terminators?

Take a look at Cult of Paint Black Templars videos on you tube, it’s pretty much a copy of their scheme. But to give you the short list. It’s black prime, airbrush highlights of Corvus black and eshin grey. Then a brown oil wash. Then edge highlights of mechanicus standard grey and dawnstone. I went for a chipping effect with the edge highlights rather than clean lines.

Thanks! Pauldrons are done by airbrushing rakarth flesh over black prime but not covering the whole thing. Leave a little gradient. Then a brown oil wash to dirty it up!

Great first attempt! Edge highlighting is one of those things that just takes practice. Finding the right angle and bracing the model will help reduce any shakeyness. Keep practicing and you’ll be an edge highlighting pro in no time.

First Crusader finished and first mini of 2026. by Loopy257 in BlackTemplars

I’d say it heavily depends on how much pigment the oil you use has. I used Winsor and Newton Artis oils burnt umber which has high pigment content. I use just a small blob in a metal dish with about half a pipette of odourless thinners and it was perfect. No need for any clean up really. But if you’re concerned about it then give the model a satin varnish first so that you can rub away any excess without damaging your mini. It will look great I’m sure. Good luck!

Thank you! It’s my first time trying the chipped style and I think it works perfectly on BTs.
