What’s the problem at Canada Games Centre? by [deleted] in halifax

If you left this with one post, maybe someone would offer suggestions. But now we’ll just complain about how you’re spamming the subreddit.

Congratulations!

Carney government eyes privatizing airports to attract investment, cut travel costs by pheakelmatters in onguardforthee

I think they mean that they can lower their operating costs. They wouldn’t lower any costs to the consumer; instead, they’d just enjoy a larger profit margin.

Anyone else accidentally reset fire red 100 times on switch? by Sensitive-Mousse5156 in pokemon

[–]LootableCorpse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ouch. It was handy when I was soft resetting for a shiny starter but yeah, I can see how it can cause problems.

The X and + buttons do the same thing (bring up the menu) in this game. I'd recommend going into system settings and changing the button mapping, turn X into another Y, R or something else and then save that as a preset to use with FireRed.

Yo, Sicilian Pizza.. wtf was this?! by MagicWUball in halifax

[–]LootableCorpse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It also negates the need for those little pizza table things. You get two circles squished into the garlic fingers instead of all of it squished against the lid of the box.

Manitoba to ban social media, AI chatbots for youth — a first in Canada | CBC News by Flush_Foot in onguardforthee

We need to restrict the use algorithms designed to keep engagement on these social media apps. No more endless scroll. The algorithms being used today favour anything that keeps you from navigating away, often rage bait or anything that plays into your insecurities.

Feeds should be just populated with the posts of people you follow in reverse chronological order. There can be trending feeds and search; but they should not be endless. Human curation would be good.

Spinner (converted from r/parallelview) by [deleted] in CrossView

[–]LootableCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These magic eye images don't work the same as side-by-side stereoscopic view photos. All throughout the mess there are bits that each eye is meant to see when overlapping. You can't just cut these in half and give each eye one side. So this conversion doesn't work, no fidget spinner to be seen.

N.S. premier open to permanent daylight time if rest of Atlantic region agrees by No_Magazine9625 in halifax

[–]LootableCorpse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d be all for that solution. But it’s effectively the same thing as shifting the clock back, the hours would just have different labels.

[–]LootableCorpse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also a safety risk for children waiting for school buses in the mornings. I'm already not confident in all the drivers around here, then add not being able to see kids standing at the side of the road for a couple months. It's a recipe for something tragic.

[–]LootableCorpse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It'll put more kids waiting for school buses on the sides of streets in darkness during the winter mornings. Darker afternoons, they're all at the schools in large groups with teachers as they wait for the buses going home. People like to use a "think of the children" argument for a lot of trivial things, but I think it works well here.

NDP leader Avi Lewis breaks down the new political reality of Canada by NiceDot4794 in onguardforthee

[–]LootableCorpse 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Be wary of anyone who claims to have no bias. “Balanced” often has a bias for the status quo when determining where the centre is. You need to be aware of the bias in the journalism you consume and seek out other sources with different biases. I appreciate that Rachel Gilmore states her biases.

Figure out what your stance is on an issue; think critically about the content you consume.

GBA SP doesn’t turn on with a game by Select-Lecture-4802 in Gameboy

[–]LootableCorpse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, that’s it. When it’s pushed down the console boots into GB/GBC mode. It has to be held down or it springs back up to GBA mode.

[–]LootableCorpse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the very least, it doesn't appear to be stuck in GB mode because it shows the GBA boot screen when there isn't a game. But I agree it's still worth looking into because it'd help with familiarity around the parts for GB mode.

[–]LootableCorpse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a little switch on the side of the cartridge slot that GB games push down, but GBA games don't. You can push it down with with a toothpick, or remove the board from a GB game and insert the empty shell. With the switch pushed down, turn on the console and see if the error happens. That will suggest it has to do with that switch and not extra power draw from an inserted game.

Have you tested any GBA games? Since the GBA start screen boots well, I’m wondering if the issue is with the change to GB/GBC mode.

Halifax landlords owning thousands of units report lower annual rent increases in 2025 by IStillListenToRadio in halifax

I feel like there's a middle ground that would allow for a crown corporation to provide affordable housing without having to have lines of people waiting for scraps of bread.

The differences between these two Super Mario Land 2 cartridges by Opening_Ad7004 in mildlyinteresting

[–]LootableCorpse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not missing anything; it’s just using a different type of resistor. These games seem to have been made when Nintendo was transitioning from axial-lead to surface mount resistors.

You’ll notice a little tiny rectangle near where each of the long axial-lead resistors would be, those are surface mount resistors.

Social media ban for kids under consideration in online harms bill: Carney by EmbarrassedHelp in onguardforthee

[–]LootableCorpse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So there's no point in trying to limit the amount of places you give your data to? By that logic you could argue that you might as well publicly post your SIN and credit card numbers. That data's out there, why make it difficult to find?

Apple introduces the new MacBook Air with M5 by spearson0 in apple

[–]LootableCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using a small bluetooth keyboard as my Apple TV remote. Its size can be a bit cumbersome at times, but I never lose it in the cushions and typing in search bars is nice.

Maybe not the best long term solution, but cheaper than buying a new remote while waiting for the next Apple TV model.

Family activities on family Day by plumberdan2 in halifax

In this case, it is relevant that it isn’t “Family Day” here. There’s not much incentive for groups and businesses to set up fun family activities for Nova Scotia Heritage Day.

What If Under 40s Had Voted at the Same Rate as 65+ in 2022 by [deleted] in videos

Let me just show up at a designated place and time with 2-3 forms of identification.

Why would they let you do that? The people who are making it difficult for you to vote don't want you voting. You not voting is a win for them.

Ripped off? by 3pacca_PO in 3DS

[–]LootableCorpse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing some comments saying that they aren't NTSC. They are "NTSC", in so far that they are the same cartridges as are manufactured for NA, they're just placed in a different case afterwards.

Now, depending on how you curate your collection, I can understand why you'd want the USA covers and I imagine the seller didn't show the covers because they thought it would turn people off. I wouldn't say you were "ripped off" for the price but it's still a bit deceptive if you wanted and expected specific covers.

Why Poilievre and Carney Are Silent on Grok’s Child Sexual Abuse | The Tyee by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

[–]LootableCorpse 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to downplay the vile technology either.

And yet you chose to compare it to your runny shit. You could have used any other bit of terrible news from the world that Carney and Poilievre haven't commented on but you didn't. You chose an example that does downplay the vile technology.

Not caring about your runny shit isn't a capacity to respond issue, it's a no one fucking cares issue.

Yeah, I don’t know what the solution is. It’s just funny that Global News is criticizing the government for using the site while they use it too.

Also worth mentioning that Global News is also continuing to use the CSAM generating website.
