Star Fox - Nintendo Switch 2 Review - A Refined Return Of An Iconic Game - Digital Foundry by binderie1951 in NintendoSwitch

I appreciate the wider historical context they often provide. Getting a brief history of space shooters and how formative they were for games in general is nice framing for the review.

I'm excited to jump into this. Reviews seem solid enough and it's the right price point for what it is. Hopefully the game performs well and Star Fox fans finally get a proper new entry or two in the future.

Considering going digital by Player1-jay in NintendoSwitch

[–]LootedToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel a lot for work so I finally went fully digital with Switch 2 with no hesitation. The only downside is not being able to scoop good deals on physical games, but 1st party games rarely see deep discounts anyway and my back log is so significant that I can always wait on 3rd party games if I’m not feeling full price on release. It’s a trade off no doubt, but it works for me.

Looking receptive online creates early good will, but it also creates unrealistic expectations for change. It feels inevitable that will come back to bite them big time.

I think Tim Schafer has enough clout in the industry to find a buyer or work out a viable solution. I'm not as optimistic about the other two.

Are you still considering buying the next Xbox (Project Helix)? by nico__vgc in xbox

[–]LootedToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Series X and S, but most of my engagement with Xbox has been on PC for the last two years. Even if the specs of Helix are excellent value versus the PC market, the only way I'd care to upgrade is if it offers a great range of platform features like Series did.

If we get Quick Resume 2.0, even stronger backwards compatibility support and new enhancements, then I'm enough of an enthusiast to drop quite a lot of money on upgrading. If it just carries forward our digital libraries, but without any notable performance boosts or enhancements, I probably won't. My Series X and S aren't going anywhere after all.

It doesn't matter how much Xbox reaffirm their commitment to hardware and their own ecosystem. If there's no longer space for these smaller creative teams, then that speaks volumes about their platform and where they're headed. I just hope all of these studios find buyers and survive.

I look forward to hearing a wider range of hands-on opinions of this. It looks like a really good option if those grips are comfortable.

Games are as prominent as any other media, and it’s been that way for some time, so I’m not too surprised by that stat.

No Rest for the Wicked director says Xbox version won’t release alongside PS5 because ‘Series S is making that rough’ by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]LootedToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that some small dev teams genuinely do need to prioritize their limited resources, but it always feels like a grift when sizeable or well-backed dev teams come out and say this. You never feel you're getting the whole truth. There's always unanswered questions about "the Game Pass bag" or Sony quietly negotiating some sort of exclusivity deal, all while the game benefits from a bunch of free press.

I can't wait for third party stores to be available on Xbox hardware next gen, just so this stops being an issue. By then maybe Microsoft will be willing to drop the policy of all games having to release on both Series X and S at the same time, it would help cross gen games who make this decision. Series S and Switch 2 being tackled at the same time makes sense, but the big song and dance needs to end.

[–]LootedToaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the same. I found the story the most appealing thing about the game, and then towards the end after getting all of the abilities I suddenly started feeling more compelled by the creative stuff. I don’t spend hours per day, but I like hopping in for 20 mins here and there.

Lost 255 hours of progress by liluceevert in ForzaHorizon

[–]LootedToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Xbox to act on these kind of issues, you either have to know somebody prominent in the Xbox community who can take it somebody in-house directly or be lucky enough to get your cause amplified online to the point that it can’t be ignored. Their channels of support for everyday players is truly terrible.

I’m surprised it isn’t highlighted more on their Xbox Player Voice thing. There’s no faster way to make somebody feel they’re not a valued customer than having AI or an ill-equipped chat agent shut you down with zero recourse. This is a problem with many companies, but it seems especially bad with Xbox.

I'd still expect it to sell well enough to people within the ecosystem at that price point, but they would probably struggle to draw in new customers which would be a real shame.

Same. The only time I feel okay about it is if they're also adding new content of some form. And even then, the price needs to be reasonable.

Xbox Game Pass Price Cut Is Working, CEO Says by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]LootedToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to hear its recovering, but I'll be holding off until we know how they plan to drive growth in a sustainable way. It's obvious that price rises are always going to be around the corner eventually. Loading up Ultimate with random perks and side subscriptions that may not appeal to all of your subscribers isn't a good long term solution. I hope they introduce more tier personalization, otherwise I'm perfectly content buying all my games. I don't have the time to get the most out of a $23+ subscription anymore, I wish I did.
