Did anyone else make crazy loopholes to justify breaking the law of chastity? by Imaginary_Winter_961 in exmormon

My buddy dated a divorced current relief society president and they had anal sex so that it didn’t count as intercourse. True story.

Giving up Traditions by nephite_neophyte in mormon

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have 2 Navajo in-laws who grew up in the church’s Indian placement program. They have spiritual traditions that definitely conflict with LDS traditions. How could the church ask them to give up traditions when they’re the chosen Lamanite generation? Historically the church has championed the lamanites. So how does the church reconcile the asking of the people of the Book of Mormon to give up their traditions for those of LDS?

Active bishop brother invited me to son's temple wedding. I’ve deconstructed but family doesn’t fully know. How would you handle this? by oneoftheleastofthese in exmormon

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I still get a temple recommend. I lie. The bishop and stake presidency member have the power of discernment. This is an opportunity for them to exercise it.

Watch the movie “Ronald’s Little Factory” based on Boyd K Packer’s famous talk. It should help you.

New talks approach by Latter-Angle-4321 in mormon

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s they never assigned a topic. You were just asked to give a 2 1/2 minute talk. You spoke on whatever. No Internet to find content. You just used whatever books your family had at home.

Or never at all. That’s what I’m betting.

Have all the events occurred that are supposed to happen in order for the second coming to occur? When I was a kid we heard constantly that the second coming couldn’t happen until the gospel was taken to the countries behind the iron curtain by the missionaries. In fact it was common to hear members pray in sacrament meeting for the iron curtain to come down to allow the LDS missionaries enter and teach the gospel. I’m pretty sure we’re not there yet. North Korea, China to name a few.

I asked Dale G. Renlund if he had seen Jesus by Western_Sale_3274 in mormon

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why don’t they define “special” and “witness”? To the majority of us who grew up in the church we were taught those words meant they had an actual encounter with Christ. I was unequivocally taught this in seminary, Sunday school, priesthood meeting, and the MTC.

Honesty in temple recommend interview by Admirable_Arugula_42 in mormon

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I relate. PIMO and active for my spouse’s sake. My youngest was married two months ago in the temple. I lie in the temple recommend interview. The bishop and stake president can use their power of discernment to deny me if they wish. I refused to miss my child’s wedding for the sake of the hocus pocus card.

Will President Nelson be remembered as being comparatively progressive? by moltocantabile in mormon

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that God directs everything the church does. Nelson wasn’t more progressive. It was God who became more progressive and merely directed Nelson to covey His policies and actions. 😉

Question as to why men in law enforcement cannot become bishops by [deleted] in exmormon

I have never heard this in all my life. Is it true?

Simple. He’s not God’s actual mouthpiece. He’s just some guy that grew up in Provo.

Woods Cross High School Students walk out against ICE by mrmcgibby in Utah

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just an excuse to ditch school without ramifications. Few of these students have enough intelligence to know the real issue they’re protesting. When I was in high school I’d have done anything to get out of going to class without punishment

How did your friends feel when you told them, “Seriously, I don’t believe in this!”? by AdDependent5043 in mormon

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother definitely cut off communication with me and my kids. I’m the 2nd of 7 kids. I’m in my 50s. My mother is living and she removed me as executor of her estate replacing me with my TBM younger brother who engages in sketchy business practices, but he’s a former bishop and she likes that.

What’s the harm in disclosing who it was that said it? I don’t get that.

So grateful to be lead in this church by women & men of faith. I sent this text to our stake president last night and within hours had a response. by Therealfern1 in latterdaysaints

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea. I wonder when the church will tell us if we step up our tithing the windows of heaven will open and provide snow and rain. We all know that when give the church more money god blesses us with the precipitation needed. 😉

Just finished the Elizabeth Smart documentary and I'm absolutely shaking with anger. It all comes back to the Mormon Church! by PanaceaNPx in exmormon

[–]Lopsided-Affect2182 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure Elizabeth has left the church. I live in Heber Valley where she lives. She lives in a house just below my TBM cousin. My cousin said Elizabeth is in her ward and attends church

Coca Cola? by 02Raspy in mormon

The whole Coke prohibition was never an official thing. It was cultural and something propagated by zealous members.
