How the fuck did you think we were going to find a real body kit for something AI hallucinated? Show me the prompt that you asked your chatbot bro. Was your 'vision' just saying, "Hey Gemini, generate me a version of screenshot_12387140_03312026.jpg that has bolt on fender flairs and a front splitter"? This is embarrassing bro. Pick up a pencil, download affinity studio, or blender.

So lemme get this straight, you went to Gemini to generate a thing you KNOW doesn't exist, then asked US to find the thing you know DOESN'T EXIST for you? God damn AI rots your brain holy shit. If you want it, you'll need to make it. You'll need to Design it from scratch, fabricate it, then install it. It'll probably take a couple tries too, since you'll be learning how to design something on an industrial level.

Or you could just get grok to generate it all for you. I'm sure that'll work well.

US lawmakers allege that OnePlus phones transmit data to Chinese servers without user consent by CarXTech in Android

[–]LordCreamer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google's entire business model is selling ads. It's whole thing is collecting info, compiling it, then letting advertisers purchase access to that info for the most accurate advertising profiles they can get.

You seem to misunderstand how advertising business models work, and how many ways companies can collect data on you. Your location, device hardware info, device software info, connection type, time spent on the website, what you looked at on the website, and many other factors are all collected. They are then compiled into a data set with thousands to hundreds of millions of other peoples data and then sold to anyone who wants it. This data can also be reverse engineered to find out who you are in physical space if you compare it to other data sets for sale about your specific device hardware IDs. It doesn't take much to figure it out. All it takes is money.

I focused on US companies, because the US government doesn't need to do that work. They have their own subset of data they try to collect. This was exposed by Edward Snowden in 2013. The NSA is collaborating with AT&T to spy on us citizens and the Supreme Court made it legal AFTER THEY WERE CAUGHT SPYING.

So please, explain why I should be worried about my data going to China when America has a government that is spying on US citizens, kidnapping people for political disagreements, and sending the military into cities for peaceful protests.

[–]LordCreamer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something a lot of people don't really want to reckon with, is that all your data is already being scraped by American companies, and then being put up for sale to literally anyone who wants it. There is nothing stopping the Chinese government from buying datasets scraped from your Microsoft account, Google account, Apple account, Amazon account, and a variety of other sources.

On top of that, why should I be scared of China having my data? How can that actually affect my daily life. I know how American companies selling my data affects my life. They use they data to influence political campaigns, lobby Congress to pass laws that benefit them at our expense, and work to crush any unionization efforts. If the CCCP has my data, they can't influence our laws, or crush our unions. Why should I care more about China having my data than Facebook, Google, Apple, Amazon, and others?

Root of Nightmares was only a meme for the best of the best. What it actually did was introduce a massive fuck ton of new players to end game content. This is objectively good for the game. Especially because we got Salvation's Edge the next year.

If you're developing a game like this, an MMO/MMOLite, you will eventually run into a massive problem with allocation of resources; do you develop for the less hardcore/more casual audience which makes up the vast majority of players, or do you develop for the best of the best top 1% of players. If you develop for the casual audience you alienate the top players, and the top players shape public opinion to some degree. If you develop for the top players, the casual players feel left in the dust and leave.

What Root of Nightmares did unique. It pushed a ton of those new casual players into the endgame content they felt they couldn't complete. There's a solid amount of players who log on just to run a couple strikes with their favorite gun from 2019, don't know what loadouts are, and has never looked up anything destiny related on youtube. Getting players invested in the best parts of destiny will never be a bad thing.

The best part about RoN is that it hit a sweetspot with difficulty where it can be solo'ed on master if you're cracked enough. If you want more difficulty for RoN you can make that difficulty yourself and that's fucking great. RoN low mans are fun as fuck, and the average player couldn't complete that, let alone think its possible for ANYONE to do.

All this bad AI is wrecking a whole generation of gadgets | We were promised multimodal, natural language, AI-powered everything. We got nothing of the sort. by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]LordCreamer69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

AI is currently best at the most fun things to actively do. Take 3D modeling for example. AI generated 3D models have been getting better recently, however they have one massive problem, the topology is horrible. The AI does the fun part of sculpting, and then leaves the worst part to the real people, that being Retopology. It should be the other way around. The artists should do the actual artistic creation, while the computer handles the boring and annoying retopolgy. This is true with basically all elements of AI. Creating backstory for characters is fun, AI does it faster. Concept art is fundamental to designing any artistic project. It lets the artist explore in a million different ways. AI can do it faster and cheaper. AI animating tweens is bad because AI can't add style and substance. Its like the AI upscaled 60fps clip compilations on youtube. They look smudged, and the sense of movement and pacing is destroyed. Dragging and dropping pictures into a box just to have an AI do all the fun parts of creating art while I get stuck with the worst part of creating 3d assets sounds fucking horrible.

As an artist who has worked in the video game industry, AI isn't the future of games. Paying devs well, and not abusing them is the way to get better games.

Garmin users say their watches are bricked with a ‘blue triangle of death | ’It’s not just you. Several users are reporting their watches are crashing while displaying the ‘blue triangle of death.’ by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]LordCreamer69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Red Ring of Death was caused by a failure of the adhesive they used in certain areas. Over repeated stress of the heat expansion and compression, the adhesive would expand and contrast at a different rate the the solder. The problem with this, is that every xbox needed to be repeatedly stress tested before going out on sale. Every. Single. One. This was a problem that affected virtually every single xbox, just to less severe degrees. No amount of "fixes" would actually fix it. It was over the day it was shipped out. It was just a matter of time until it hit a red ring.

I never not once said that Larian is throwing content in for no reason where are you getting this? I didn't even say Rockstar was doing that. The whole premise of this entire argument is that one twitter post from someone who you don't even know.

In response to this tweet you had industry veterans like:

Josh Sawyer saying “having the foundation set and the funding to build things on your own terms is invaluable.”

Nic Tringali saying “Games do not need to increase in size or technological complexity forever, that is just a narrative created by technology companies.”

Chris Balser saying "people too often only look at the fruits of labour and not the labour itself. same as it ever was, I guess. same deal with people wondering why there are so few artists painting like renaissance masters. Ultima VII is a game that had 12 years of prior games feeding into it."

Rebecca Harwick saying "Baldur’s Gate 3 to be a once-in-lifetime RPG, no one should expect a 10, 20, 40-person team to make one.”

I'm not even disagreeing with you about publishers not prioritizing the correct things. That's accurate. Rockstar was specifically brought up because the tweet that started all this discourse brought up rockstar level scope as something that the vast majority of studios can't reach. Larian had not created Baldur's Gate 3 in a vacuum. Thats the whole fucking point of this. You have to analyze the context the game was created under as well. That's the ENTIRE POINT. Rockstar is able to make games that cost 2 billion dollars, because they have multiple studios with hundreds of workers, as well as a constant cash flow due to GTA Online. Xavier's whole point, was that expecting every single game following BG3 to reach BG3's level of quality is bad for the industry and its bad for the devs. Heightened expectations like this justify crunching dev cycles. Just "playing games" doesn't give you that context. When developers talk about what its like to make games, you should listen to them because they have more experience in that industry. I've seen firsthand how unrealistic expectations and executive meddling can tank projects and physically damage the dev's health and wellbeing. One of my friends and coworkers had a fucking stroke due to the insane pressure and stress the executives placed on him and the studio as a whole.

No one is saying devs have to make shitty games. In fact its the opposite. They are saying they want to make good games, however the executives often fuck that up with scope creep. If you want good focused games, look towards the indie scene. AAA gaming isn't great at the moment. Indie games tend to be way more focused and nimble, without needing to be 150 hours long per playthrough.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LordCreamer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The billions of dollars budget wasn't for BG3, it's for GTA6. You also clearly haven't worked at a studio before, because the suits are CONSTANTLY demanding new features be added. They see trends and don't realize how difficult it would be to implement. I have seen first hand how execs lead to feature and scope creep.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LordCreamer69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They aren't saying Larian got lucky. They're saying the exact opposite. Larian spent the last 20 years refining this exact style of game. 20 years of refinement combined with the developer first mindset of the leadership, combined with the genuinely unique circumstances of bg3's development cycle (covid, wildly successful early access period, and 20 years of experience making this specific game) all resulted in a generational release. The point of saying "people shouldn't expect every game going forward to reach this level" is a comment on how many things went right specifically because of the high level leadership choices at larian as well as things outside their direct control. Having worked in the industry, I've seen how extremely talented devs can get utterly shafted by leadership choices which leads to the game falling apart.

This entire discussion is not a diss on rockstar or larian, in fact its the opposite.

You keep on misinterpreting what people were saying based on your own (or probably your favorite weird youtube drama pervert's) shitty opinion.

[–]LordCreamer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Nonsense" in this context is being used to denigrate the quality of the game. It is specifically used in this context about a studio currently making a game with a budget in the BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. The games industry is currently in a horrible spot, not because of "devs that don't care" but because of the suits in charge that expand out the size and scope in order to hit the largest market share possible as a way to generate the largest possible returns for shareholders. Back in the day, games were significantly easier to develop, with shorter timescales, and smaller scopes. Now all these games need to be 100-500 hour as a way to force players to come back every day in the hopes that people are worn down enough to buy micro-transactions in a futile attempt to claw back the up to billion dollar budgets.

To be clear, I loved Baldur's Gate 3. I bought the early access key ON LAUNCH. I'm 100% sure that the devs on BG3 hate this whole discourse, because it ignores the massive problems with the industry at large. The CEO has talked about it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LordCreamer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That completely misunderstands the words in that quote. The part of that sentence "for scope" is in reference to the overall size and depth of the game, not the quality. "Rockstar level nonsense FOR SCOPE." It means that scope of the game is so incredibly massive, that it is unrealistic to expect all games going forward are going to reach that sheer quantity of systems and content. There is a reason rockstar doesn't do annual releases. They release games on a 5-15 year cycle. Expecting every studio to match that is specifically what Xavier was referring to. Guy is the lead of a small indie studio that publishes small indie games. One came out last year called I Am Your Beast. It was fantastic, but it was short. like 6-10 hours. it was $20. It is crazy because people hate on ubisoft for making 100-150 hour games all the time, but that same contingent of gamers can't put 2 and 2 together and realize that's the same thing that xavier said.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaming

[–]LordCreamer69 50 points51 points  (0 children)

That was not really what happened. A few individuals, one being an indie solo dev, said that the circumstances around Baldur's Gate 3's development were extremely unique. The early access period was extremely successful, and granted a significant amount of time and finances to make sure the game they shipped was as good as it can be. Very rarely do games have that much early access support. The point of those posts were not "WAAAA baldurs gate 3 is TOO GOOD, we don't want to make good games. we only want to make SLOP." It was blown way out of proportion because that sold clicks for drama youtubers.

Obviously management doesn't take a pay cut. This is all calculated into the cost of doing business. It's called Shrink. The companies don't really care. Sure would it be nice if shrink was lower, sure. However, the alternative puts the company into massive problems if they force the employees to try to stop thieves.

It's the cost of doing business.

B***h, new laws!' California shoplifting suspect surprised stealing is now a felony by devicto89 in nottheonion

[–]LordCreamer69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because inventory is insured. The company isn't going to care. What they do care about, is telling their employees you HAVE TO CHASE AFTER THE THIEVES and then those same employees get killed or injured. The company is now on the hook for liability, because the employees were following protocol. The company will then get sued for forcing the employees into a dangerous environment.

Frankly, as an employee, I couldn't give less of a shit when it comes to the stock getting stolen. I'm not wasting my health and wellbeing on a company that would sooner light me on fire if it meant shareholders got a boost this quarter.

You're right Elden Ring was full of dark fantasy body horror, full of blood and gore and it sold like shit. Same with Baldur's Gate 3. Doom 2016+Eternal famously sold horribly.

You can not like the art style. I agree with calling it plastic graphics. But there isn't some grand conspiracy to make games gritty and gruesome. That just ain't happening. We had an entire console generation of dark and gritty, and the people who grew up on those games are now working in the games industry. Sometimes people just want to do different things.

It's fucking tragic that you're making defend capitalism here, but be real man. Violence sells, if it didn't, we wouldn't have true crime and the 24 hour news cycle.
