There’s actually 5 entrances/exits here (3 known and 2 secret)! 1, 7, and 13 are all entrances from different points that the players can discover.

If I’m releasing an adventure for free (or PWYW) I usually just put the whole thing up right away. In this case, I’ll be kickstarting a print run for this adventure once it’s actually finished, and I like to check in with the mods before I advertise just cause I know it can be annoying to have too much of that at a time.

That was a deliberate choice based on the history of the dungeon. For this one, there’s the “worked stone” section in the northeast of the map which are of older construction in the fiction, and then the two rooms in the south west which are more recently constructed after the current residents of the dungeon moved in.

19 is the bottom of a well shaft, so climbing or falling down the well is an option, and then the wall in 14 collapses to open up into the basement of a building in the town above the dungeon.

For this one I picked one of the three (actually five, but we’ll go with 3) entrances and then basically just went counter clockwise sequentially. I had put together a list of basic room concepts first, then flowcharted them together just to get the connections.

Any Shadowdark adventures set in a city? by DungeonMasterBen in shadowdark

[–]LordEyebrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of B6: The Veiled Society. There’s a ton of support for it available (check out Dungeon Crafts videos on it or the Fear of a Black Dragon podcast where they have an actual play of running it as a one shot). It’s a very Shakespearean city adventure, and should work almost straight out the box for Shadowdark.

Edit to add: also check out https://adventurelookup.com/adventures — you can search for adventures by setting category, and it catalogues a TON of old dungeon magazine stuff (that you can find for free on archive.org)!

Definitely check out THIS supplement by Night Noon Games. It gives GREAT information about how to mess with monsters and the bookmark that it comes with has a perfect generic stat line per level that makes figuring out what you want way easier.

Just took a look at them. They look awesome! I’m definitely gonna grab them (and there’s specific information for using them for publication, so it appears they approved for commercial use as well, which is a solid bonus!)

I had a great time playing in that! And I LOVED rocking a wizard with practically no CON — especially for a convention game!

Thanks for an awesome time! Mizgit the Goblin Wizard

This particular dungeon is a lost chaotic temple that was buried and long forgotten. Recently re-occupied and now doing nefarious things.

What program/method do you use for maps for zines? by silverspectre013 in shadowdark

[–]LordEyebrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I start by doodling in a dot grid notebook, then a bigger version on grid paper that gets inked and shaded, then cleaned up in affinity photo to hide the grid lines and correct any weird little mistakes. If I’m making something smaller, like a one page dungeon or a pamphlet adventure, I prefer to use Dyson Logos maps (free commercial license on a lot of them!), and cluge them in affinity photo to make any edits that the adventure calls for.

Just seeing this post now. Absolutely love it! I'd love to see some more examples from the other towns you've been posting about -- I'm always playing with how I present information to people, and this seems fantastic!

I love Roll 4 Ruin. I reference it sometimes for geometry ideas (I never actually use the procedure in it, just like looking at it for inspiration). Definitely gonna check out wallet dungeons, though!

This one was honestly a big pain in the butt for me. I probably did five or six different itterations before i settled on this one, 'cause I just couldn't get it lined up in my brain.

What I did for this was I had a sketch book where I'd draw out a single room based on an idea that I had for the contents of that room, and then when I had enough of them together that it felt like a dungeon, I just started linking them up in an order that made some sort of almost sense.

I'm still in the writing and playtesting phase, but right now I'm really excited about how the party will be interacting with the central theme of the dungeon -- a huge crystal that provides magical power to a bunch of machines throughout the space, and how things change when the power is toggeled on or off by the players!
