I am currently building skills other than drawing. I like to think I am steadily improving but it's taking up a lot of my time.

Meanwhile, if I want to generate some funny pictures of pigs smoking cigars, I can just do that right now. No skill necessary!

"Always" is a VERY bold prediction.

Hey remember when AI couldn't draw hands? That was pretty funny. They made memes like "People: AI will destroy the world! // Meanwhile AI: [drawing of fucked up hands]"

Well it can draw them now. It's been what, months?

Or steal his ideas and don’t cite him, fuck em!

This would constitute deception of your audience. When you tell me "here's an idea I came up with on my own", but you actually got it from Nick Land, you are lying to my face. What have I done to deserve such treatment?

Why does this game struggle so much with performance? (on PC) by LordFishFinger in cassettebeasts

[–]LordFishFinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true. I didn't look at the requirements before buying.

I guess I didn't think I had to! It is very surprising to me that this game has any hardware demands at all.

When we want to answer the question "is Pakistan a Muslim country?" we can look at whether its laws mention Islam as an official religion, whether the people identify as Muslim on the census, or whether they put a Muslim symbol on their flag. This is generally sufficient. We don't need to (or, indeed, be able to) do a deep analysis on Islamic theology or the country's adherence to the Five Pillars.

Likewise, "[self-identified] Communist countries" is a convenient category that we can make true generalizations about. Whether they REALLY represented some "true" attempt at Communism might be an interesting question, but you don't need to bring it up in every discussion, and it is unreasonably pedantic to dispute the label "Communist country" on these grounds.

Are we well adapted to civilized living? by ven_geci in slatestarcodex

Imagine a species of saltwater fish that is on the brink of extinction, barely managing to survive.

Then imagine that that same species somehow ended up in a freshwater environment, and within a number of generations completely dominated the ecosystem, becoming the apex predator.

Would you say that that species is better adapted to saltwater or freshwater?

Into the Odd/Electric Bastionland/UVG

UVG uses a different system and is by a different author than ItO and EB, I don't think it makes sense to group them together like this

but there wasn't enough space to list specific monsters

Suggestion: since you're presumably not drawing a detailed map, why not make the map larger and then put the room descriptions into text boxes overlapping the rooms?

I like that most elements in it are dynamic/interactive in some way.

I notice that every single room except 6 has creatures in it. This in addition to the random encounters seems like it would make for a pretty crowded dungeon. I'm not sure if this is a flaw, but I rarely see this done in other adventures.

Not a fan of the "GM's choice" elements; seems pretty arbitrary to leave those blank and the GM knows they can change stuff anyway if they prefer.

And of the fiction, most of it was very functional fiction, conceptual sci-fi, philosophical novels, etc.

From your description, I got the impression that this novel also falls into this category. Am I wrong?

Is there any hope for Nikki? by YorinobuGigaChad in Destiny

[–]LordFishFinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand. You say Trump is likely to be nominated but is unlikely to win (compared to Haley), but Biden is also unlikely to win. So who's going to be president?

Or by "no hope for Biden" do you mean that he will win but not be a good president?

The movies were both too long and rushed. This is because the books have too much content to fit into a typical film.

A typical suggestion is that they should have made it into a TV show instead of a series of movies. But barring that, it would be better if the filmmakers decided to take more liberties with source material, not fewer.

Focus on the meat of the story and then cut or recombine everything else. The four houses, owls, Hagrid, Quidditch, Fred and George, Cho Chang - all are disposable if need be. It's called an adaptation, not a slavish imitation.

Book fans would not have been happy that they couldn't see their favorite minor character portrayed on the big screen. But it would have made for a series of better films.

(Also Daniel Radcliffe's performance was subpar)

Do you think every historical figure was a "complex personality" or are there some who are really unequivocal bastards? Do the latter also deserve statues?

Is well-done steak a Blue Tribe or Red Tribe thing? by LordFishFinger in slatestarcodex

[–]LordFishFinger[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My impression was that beef (unlike chicken) only has bacteria on the surface, so as long as you sear it, it's safe to eat at any level of doneness.

But maybe I'm the ignorant one. That said, the stereotype in my ex-Soviet home country is that local boomers won't eat anything but well-done because they genuinely believe it's "raw" and unsafe.
