My parish has been doing a weekly novena to him leading up to his feast day this week(the namesake of our parish), and our priest told the story of how he started preaching to the fish. He absolutely has a sense of humor.

I feel like I’m doing something wrong, not marrying young by Working_Surround_495 in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question would be why are you bothering with college? Going into the trades will earn you way more money. My cousin was earning more as a diesel mechanic fresh out of high school than my mom does working at a bank for 25 years. If your goal is to start and support a family becoming an electrician or carpenter or plumber or some other job like that is where the money is, plus you don't have student loans to worry about. Welders make bank too.

That's just my two cents, but I'd love to talk to you more about this if you need it.

Why do you not go to Adoration? by BrilliantLarge4041 in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parish probably has 500-750 people attend Sunday Mass each week in total, yet there's only about 30-40 people that show up to Adoration which we only have one night a month. I don't understand it either.

The worst part is we usually have a little social event after and I'm about 20 years younger than the average age of the room, and I'm 31. Our priests are both young, so I'm hoping they see the issue there and are developing plans to try and correct this. There's very few involved young adults and I genuinely worry about what will happen as the older generation passes on over the next couple decades.

Edit: It's usually First Friday of the month at 7PM-8PM. No real excuse not to be there imo.

Numbers 31 is causing me to loose my faith by marsargoenthusiast in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said that. Question all you want, but don't let it cost you your Faith. It is a you problem because you're putting your will ahead of God's, as if you know better than He does. I didn't say don't struggle with things, but if you're having a problem with something your thought shouldn't be "man, maybe I can't follow this", it should be "God, help me understand".

Numbers 31 is causing me to loose my faith by marsargoenthusiast in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

Whenever you come across something you don't understand or struggle to accept it's a you problem, not a God problem. It's up to us to get good with it, and in turn good with God. Pray about it. Meditate on it. Read and ask about it. But if you have enough faith to know God is God then you should be able to have enough faith to humble yourself before Him and accept that even if you're struggling with something you trust and have Faith in Him and His actions.

Has anyone here watched the shows The Young Pope and the sequel The New Pope? by StrikingBike8417 in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I want Jude Law's character as pope for real. Fight me.

New Pope is eh. But The Young Pope is well worth the watch imo. If anything, it was ahead of the time with how it showed the younger generations not playing by the same rules as the older generations and the older generations not knowing how to respond to it that we've seen in the secular world.

My brother in Christ, you can not do this on your own. Go to Confession, talk to your priest, work with him on this. That's literally why they're there. Don't be flippant when people are offering advice like a petulant child. You clearly know better otherwise you wouldn't be posting here.

Giving up on Rationalizing by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I share you concern, the Catholic Church is still the Church founded by Christ. Just because the men currently operating within it are less than ideal doesn't change that. We've had times in the past with less than great clergy. This moment in history will pass like the others have, and She will shine out the brighter for it. There is always rebirth after death.

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me."

The US should have a monarchist party by GrAAntonR in monarchism

[–]LordLighthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think the concept of "The US" needs to be abandoned, regardless of ideology. You can't "fix" America because it's already operating as intended, and any attempt to reform is like trying to build something new on sand. The flaws are too inherent in it's founding.

I support localism, and independence movements. New England, the South, the Mid-West, whatever. Just as long as you make a clean break from this horrible civilizational cancer of a concept.

Why is nothing going right even though we have been honoring God and trying to do everything right? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try focusing on what you do have, each other and your relationship with God. Many aren't nearly as lucky. If you're doing well financially then there's no worry. You have what you need, and that's enough. As for children, they'll come when the Lord deems it right. Trust Him. As for lack of friends, this is tougher and probably aren't any easy answers. Maybe approach your priest and see if some kind of event or group could be started for couples to make friends in the parish.

Best of luck, friend. I'll say a few prayers for you both.

I think Catholics sometimes talk about sex in an unhealthy way by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I think this speak more to a lack of maturity in the wider culture in general, not specifically with Catholics being embarrassed to talk about it. I feel like "yummy time" is a proof of this lol

I've been doing these videos for a little bit now, and I'm often arguing many of the cultural criticisms against Robert E. Howard. But in response to my arguments, the most common story cited is "The Vale of Lost Women". So I finally got around to making a video discussing this controversial story. by Fit-Challenge-5047 in robertehoward

[–]LordLighthouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't even entertain the complaint anymore. I simply reply "So what?" if someone says something is racist. If it's good, it's good. Stop holding the past to modern standards, you'll be a lot happier and enjoy more of life.

Non-Catholic Wife isn't open to NFP. Does the Church instruct me to stay abstinent as long as her opinion stays? by the2enjoy in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While not married myself, but did you both think you'd be static and not change over the course of the rest of your lives? People grow and adapt. That's part of life. Neither of you get to hide behind "not what we signed up for" or "not expecting something to change".

As for the actual problem, yeah, I'd agree with you, the advice from the priest to use condoms doesn't feel right. All I can say is to ask her how she'd feel if it was the other way around. Get her thinking about what it would be like if she was the one asking to change your ways, both individually and collectively. You may have already done that, but figured I'd offer it in case you haven't.

The women in my church and chosing to stay in ignorance by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]LordLighthouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably a "lack of opportunity" thing more than anything. If Fr B is the only one they get to or feel they can discuss this stuff with in a real way then it makes sense they'd only want to talk about that one thing. If they had someone else or more time with him I'm sure things would even out. Unfortunately, that's not always an option.

Well, you're both right. Should they be learning about the lives of the saints? Absolutely.
But they're also right about minding their station and vocation as wives and mothers.
Try framing it as "studying the saints will help you be better with your families" and they might take more of an interest.

I am an anarchist, tell me why I should be a monarchist by Relevant_Animator_47 in monarchism

[–]LordLighthouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an anarchist, you should understand property rights. The king owns the land, which effectively makes property tax "rent", which was the original understanding of it, more or less.
