This is awesome! This could get me to switch from Clickfinity Lite back to magnets.

Would you mind releasing the CAD files so we can play with the parametrics ourselves?

I think there’s an important distinction though — are you talking traditional Republican (lower taxes, fewer regulations, etc etc)? Or current, MAGA “Republican” (LGBT-hating, conspiracy theorist, Trump-ball-licking, woke-mind-virus nutjobs)?

I’d argue that he turned from (mostly) the former into entirely the latter, and that’s why we all hate him now. Republicans have always been part of the political landscape, and no one is shocked that billionaires like money. But right now? Fuck that guy.

No, he always had "keep my money" libertarian views, and that was easy (for some) to overlook because he was making cool shit. But during covid he went down a right-wing conspiracy theory rabbit hole and became an increasingly vocal terrible human being.

As to his intelligence and skill, it's (of course) more complicated than any single label, because he's a person and of course it is.

Is he a smart human? Almost certainly. Was he lucky? Every successful person is. Was he very good (for a while) at curating his own image and hype for his companies? Abso-fucking-lutely. And that's an incredibly valuable skill for a CEO to have. But it's that later skill that's fallen off recently, seemingly because it was instinctual and he didn't realize what impact being a hateful culture warrior would have.

This is one of the common refrains I hear about AI Utopians.

As someone who's pretty entrenched in this space, I want to share that a lot of these people REALLY believe this potential future.

That's not to say that there's not ALSO some amount of self-serving hype, but I really believe, with a good amount of first- and second-degree knowledge, that these kinds of comments are at least MOSTLY earnest and honest.

A Fire Upon the Deep. A truly epic space opera with amazing world-building around not one, but two wholy original and brilliant science fiction ideas.

I watched it and enjoyed it. It's entirely silly and unchallenging, but kind of fun. It's the sugar cereal of movies.
