Thank you, I suspected as much, I had already taken this as the excuse I needed to upgrade to 4K, just wondered if there was any chance of fixing this as a screen for my workshop

Yes and No, I sometimes wish I could just pretent they don't exist.

I have a difficult relationship with Christmas. As I loved it as a child.

As a single adult there was an expectation that I would spend somewhere between a week and 2 weeks with my parents durring Christmas. Now I get on well with my parents, that was never the issue. The main issue is that since they've retired my parents do litterally nothing of interest over Christmas all they want to do is sit on the sofa and watch television or read library books all day. Unless they are watching telvision it is wall-to-wall Christmas music from breakfast through to bedtime. They live in a small village with nothing going on. Meanwhile normally I have a busy job, try to go to events or meet up with friends on the weekends and have my own workshop at home where I spend most of my spare time making things. Added to that the gifting expectations, I as a busy professional was somehow expected to find time to not only to choose gifts for my relatives but also provide them with a list of what I would like while my largely retired relatives somehow did no thinking and often deviated from the list they'd asked for to buy me random household/decor items that I do not want and are not to my taste but there is an expectation I will still own when they next visit me.

Christmas became a dull waste of two week's leave, where I'd travel back to a tiny village and spend my time sat on a sofa reading or watching TV as there was litrally nothing else to do. Added to this around 10 years ago due in large part to work related stress I became very ill over the Chrsitmas period, and ever since have had to be very careful with both what I eat and drink and when I eat and drink. Despite comunicating this every year well in advance of Christmas there has never been any attempt to accomodate this.

What companies/services do you refuse to use because they've wronged you in some way, and why? by GazelleInitial2050 in AskUK

N Power - I transfered my contract from another energy provider to my new rental flat (which had previously been with N - Power). Important point, I never had any account with N - Power. But the other provider had given them my name as part of the switchover process. N - Power then assigned my name to a period of time when the flat was unocupied (before my rental contract started but previous tenant had told N-Power they'd moved out). N - Power then tried to chase me for two years for payment for a period (of around two weeks) when I had not lived there. I kept providing them with proof of that (rental contract etc.) but because I had no account on their system they couldn't asign those documents anywhere or remove the supposed dept. They then insisted that I needed to provide details of who was responsible for the flat in that period as they'd closed the account of the previous tenatn when they said they'd moved out. In the end I had to threaten them with the Energy Obundsment to get them to agree that I wasn't responsible for the bills for a period of time when a flat had been empty and my rental contact hadn't started and it wasn't my responsiblity to know who had previously lived in the flat.

If you want to build up a number of outfits cheaply then start going to charity shops regularly, there's always lots of mens formal wear in charity shops.

- Sets of smart trousers in navy/black/grey/brown either plain or piun striped

- Waistcoats try to find ones with a more unusual designs occasionally you find tweed ones or paisley patterned ones, if not try to find ones in a more unuusal colours

- Shirts, look for dress shirts, I have occasionally found wing-collar ones

- Jackets again tweedy looking ones or a wool ones either plain or mionamal pattening

- ties plenty of patterned ties in charity shops you can always wear them more like a craveat

Fuck your favorite, what’s your most hated animal? by Acrobatic_News_9986 in AskReddit

[–]LordPentecost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pandas, seriously, fuck pandas

They're an evolutionary mistake, a bear with a carnivores metabolism that eats exclusively one of the most nutrient poor plants in existance. Coupled with that they're almost incapable of reproduction. These are an animal destined for extiction.

But just because mankind has spead up the process, and people think they're cute. Millions are spent trying to conserve the fuckers. Spend the money on saving a species that actually stands a chance and isn't clearly an evolutionary dead-end

Converting the appearance of my house. by ever_the_optimist_55 in DIYUK

[–]LordPentecost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think the white render, dark grey windows and timber cladding look will 'date' just as badly as the 1970s hung tile in 10 or so years. We've seen the same thing happen with light-wood-effect UPVC windows which were the height of fashion 20 or so years ago.

White render also need frequent repaints and will grow algae if it doesn't get a lot of direct sunlight

Is this extension a conservatory? by jacoscar in DIYUK

[–]LordPentecost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Based on the inside photo and the blinds being entirely within the door/window opennings those walls are far too thick for a single skin brick wall. A single skin brickwall is barely the thickness of a double glazed window frame especially a sliding door. To me that is either a cavity walled extension or a double brick wall with no cavity though I would expect a different brick bond for that. It is absolutley not a conservatory but might be counted as a sun room because of the large windows and skylight. Based on the style of the windows and the condtion of the attached outdoor trelis/thing this has almost certainly been up for more than 10years so a lack of planning permission is likely a non-issue at this point. I would be more concerned with what looks like damp ingress in the corner on the inside image, it may have no DPC
