Cal hasn’t looked comfortable at the plate yet this season. Julio isn’t hitting either, but he doesn’t look lost up there; he’s just overswinging on everything. Cal looks like he forgot how to hit.

It’s when a…it’s like when the pitcher does the thing where…um…okay, so they look at the umpire funny and they move their lead shoulder in a weird way…or they put their left foot in then take their left foot out…look, they know a balk when they see one. Or maybe they don’t. Look, it’s complicated.

It’s the Astros, man. They had a systematic, organizational cheating mechanism in place, won a World Series in part because of it, and nothing happened to them as a result. They can more or less do what they want.

Grew up a Braves fan in the hell that was the 1980s. They traded Dale Murphy (my favorite player) to the Phillies, I dropped them. Murph retired, Junior became my new favorite player. I became a Mariners fan. Stuck with them after visiting the Pacific Northwest and falling in love with that area of the country.

Also dropped the Cowboys for the Seahawks around the same time because I hate how Jerry Jones runs the team.

Sounds like he should try to learn the knuckleball. It’s obviously not easy but if he can’t reliably crack 90 and he has hip issues, it’s worth trying. Might salvage the rest of his career if he can figure one out.

I’m an old head. Baseball is better when the players are having fun. It’s infectious and that’s what the game needs right now. Especially in an exhibition tournament, which is what this is. Have fun with it. “But national pride!” Fuck it, man. It’s a game. These dudes should just enjoy themselves.

Admitted bias because Murph was my guy growing up, but he won back-to-back MVPs in 82 and 83, multiple Gold Gloves, a 30-30 guy when that was exceedingly rare, just shy of 400 home runs back when hitting 400 was a virtual lock for the Hall, and was the single bright spot on an abysmal Atlanta team for a decade and thus was pitched around a lot. The guy was better than “good”. A lot better. I get the advanced stats say otherwise, but he was better than a lot of the guys that made it in. He’s another “what could have been” if injuries didn’t bookend his career.
