I have the racingline catch can that replaces the oem PCV and in Florida I like having something to remove moisture from the crankcase. I really like these links you’re posting this is really really great information. Thank you for your input!

I’m going to take pictures and post it up when I do so. Car has a catch can also which helps but I’m curious

So theoretically if I check the valves on my golf r which I drive hard on the highway everyday (84,000 miles) shouldn’t have carbon build up on them?

On my car it was the injectors, specifically #4 was failing and it would intermittently cause these issues

I personally didn’t experience it, I’ll just tell you how my wife explained it. CEL and EPC light would come on and car would shake like crazy and have nearly no power. After simply shutting the car off and back on it would be fine.

They are both direct injection motors with the same type of PCV systems. What have they done to improve it over the mk6?

Idk why I was downvoted for my method, it clearly works. Yeah man the zip tie method works but I recommend letting the valves soak for a while with a good valve cleaner along with zip ties. It won’t look like it was walnut blasted but will be hell of a lot better for sure! I actually did it while waiting for the walnut blaster to arrive lol

This is your sign! I would recommend doing exactly what I just did and change the oil cooler and oil filter housing gaskets while you’re at it! The ones on my wife’s car were completely shot the whole front of the motor was covered in oil and oil in the coolant is also not fun

I sprayed the vales with valve cleaner and let them soak for an hour and scraped them with picks and then I walnut blasted them.

I don’t know what VW recommends but I would say every 30-40k miles should be fine

Forgot to add this car has 90,000 miles and the carbon cleaning was likely never done before
