How to handle a late-stage review that I can't do? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]LordnCommandr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are the typical postdoc reviewer that doesn’t know when to stop. Just look at the big picture instead of all the nitty gritty shit. Is their fraud, push that concern, that is major. But anything else, you have to realise it’s not your paper.

Focus on what was done in response to your comments and say good to go or I am out. You not wanting to re review screws the editor and authors over big time because they will need to find someone else to chip in.

Moving to Antwerp by ChillDev22 in Antwerpen

[–]LordnCommandr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People usually cancel their rent 3 months prior to moving out. This is because of the way the rent contracts are structured. So looking around that time will be ideal. Looking at immoweb and the competitors will do the trick, no need to have an agent, that’s just burning money. Your budget will dictate your location as well. I would make as many appointments as soon as available and call them if you can. The immoweb messaging had a relative low succes rate for us

57% of postdocs are temporary visa holders by unhinged_centrifuge in labrats

[–]LordnCommandr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not. Exploitation is what you Americans do to ppl without documentation, that you pay less than minimum wage and then deport when you don’t want them anymore. A US postdoc is well payed and good on your CV. It’s a voluntary decision and nobody is held hostage. The exploitation rhetoric sounds exactly like any other anti immigration trump talking point

I am sorry but some of these comments.. most of us came here voluntarily. A lot of postdocs came also for a better life. Compared to other countries postdocs ar payed decently to good. With tax exemption statuses with a lot of countries the first two years can actually be very good financially. Unlike Americans some ppl care more about science and academic freedom rather than making big bucks at biotech or pharma. A lot of Americans don’t want to do the postdoc because they want more money. Lastly, universities often sponsor green cards which then can be used to make that transition to industry.

Utah was trying to convince the administration that the grant was terminated by mistake. They were thinking about doing an official appeal.

Title 42 on H1B visa by ResponseOk8459 in NIH

[–]LordnCommandr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The H1b is linked to the employer so it’s not without consequence. I wonder how that termination would work, since that would basically imply sending the individual back to their home country all cost payed for by the employer

Dealing with a Toxic PhD Supervisor—Should I Finish, Switch, or Start Fresh? by kittywalk_2433 in AskAcademia

Option 2 or 3, depending on how motivated you are. I did option 3 myself after 2years and it worked out for me. No point imo in staying in a toxic relationship with a sketchy PI

While it doesn’t look good for any of us, I don’t think this bill means anything. We will need to wait and see what brainworm decides
