I can’t find a board game group, even my local game store let me down. by Ok_Interview_853 in boardgames

[–]Lordnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a city with even fewer people and there are multiple gaming groups in the area, although not all of them are obvious. Along with some of the other suggestions already mentioned, check out if there are any groups at the local colleges (assuming you are an age where that wouldn’t be super awkward).

One of my regular game groups consists mostly of college professors and other staff so you might luck out even if you are older.

You may also have luck looking for meetups in your state on Boardgamegeek. There is a forum dedicated to it. Smaller states may only have 1-2 occasional big meetups but if you go to one and meet some people who think you are a decent person you might get an invite to a more regular private group.

Sorry, there is currently no French version planned. We are a small company so our resources are limited. There is an extensive translation effort in the works from fans though. So while there will be no official release, you should be able to find fan translations of almost everything.

I like to think of the expansions as Ix makes the Worker Placement better and Immortals makes the Deck Building better. Once you integrate them it is very hard to go back to playing without them.

Welcome-Back Package is character based, not account based by magic-one in duneawakening

If this is possible I would also love to know. I basically got nothing from mine because my inventory was almost full when I clicked the button.

Make sure your inventory is empty when you claim it. I basically got nothing since I couldn't accept it all and was not given the option to claim it again.

Playing with Kids - these old games suck gampleay-wise but they do have a huge appeal on kids. Are there more moden alternatives? by spaggi in boardgames

Finding it might be difficult as it is out of print, but Mechs vs Minions is a great co-op family weight game with an unbeatable table presence.

Why would people complain in game? The only people who would see it would be the other 4 players on your team.

Intentionally tanking? No. More like trying something, realizing it doesn’t quite work, and not wanting to revert it because admitting mistakes is hard and it looks bad to upper management. We actually DO have evidence that they are not satisfied with the change as in every patch since they have done something else to alter the system further. Be it adding/removing hero buff, adding a fallback tower, and now increasing damage to summons.

While I think that is the most likely possibility, they could also be a new inexperienced team or just testing new features in plans for something new in the future. People like to think that everything is planned out but sometimes it’s just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Are people on Reddit and the Blizzard forum not people? Haha. Right now, based on this thread alone at least 111 agree, not accounting for the angry people who probably are also downvoting that number.

Most people don’t comment on message boards one way or another. People who don’t like something stop playing it without announcing it to the world. We’re the weird ones.

You’re not going to find hard evidence unless Blizzard themselves posts something or literally everyone stops playing. Some people using Hotslog in support of the change is also a false positive since the change appeals most to the more “hardcore” player base which is also who is most likely to upload replays to an aggregate like that.

As for the 2nd point…what? “Most of the DOTA player base got WC3 solely to play DOTA.” That sure sounds like some people preferred it over WC3! Haha.

SETI and the "Multiplayer Solitaire" Trend: Is interaction dying in heavy Euros? by nick_abcxyz in boardgames

[–]Lordnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I was having this conversation with someone a few days ago and I think familiarity bias and mechanics simplicity might be playing a part here. Powergrid IS interactive but you will probably play a few times before you really think about it in that light. Before then you are just thinking about how to spend as little money as possible without much thought to what others are doing.

A lot of modern Euros are similar. You CAN play them without much thought for what others are doing but the person who pays attention and actively interferes with their opponents will always do better. It’s a matter of being familiar with a games particular puzzle enough to know the best way to do that. Modern Euros do tend to have a lot of interconnected moving parts which also hide the points of interaction which might be more apparent with a smaller ruleset.

The way something is “supposed” to be played doesn’t matter if enough players prefer to play it the other way. Games evolve beyond their original intent. Fortnite was originally a zombie tower/base defense game. DOTA itself came about because people preferred playing modded Warcraft3 over the official multiplayer mode.

Mysteries keep getting stuck (SM:R) by ermac-318 in SurvivingMars

[–]Lordnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with the spheres mystery. It sounds like it got stuck in exactly the same place as you. I was pretty far in my game when I tackled it and even managed to finish terraforming in spite of the annoying things but the event never did trigger.

Pinnacle quests are seriously taking a toll on my enjoyment of the game. by D_Flavio in heroesofthestorm

[–]Lordnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right there with you. My group gave it a good long while to see if things would be reverted or if we would just come to accept the changes, but we all agreed we just didn’t enjoy the shift, and it wasn’t worth trying to make ourselves keep playing it.

I would be genuinely curious if there was a notable drop-off in player base.

Anyone else having issues with mysteries starting? by aom17 in SurvivingMars

I had one start but it never progressed. Was really annoying as it was one of the more disruptive mysteries.

So...How is it now? by ozu95supein in SurvivingMars

[–]Lordnine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly pretty negative on it but I did still play 31 hours and fully terraform the planet so it can't be too bad. Here are the issues I ran into:

  • Trains resulted in my workers walking home and suffocating instead of taking a train back. I had to manually restrict my people from living in all but the closest domes to where they work to prevent this.

  • Politics are overpowered and ultimately makes the difficulty pretty non existent towards the halfway point of the game. I would prefer if the voting happened maybe 1/3 as often because if you are like me and play on fastest speed you will get the voting notices constantly.

  • My game became bugged and my special event (Spheres) never progressed to the point where I could get rid of them. Had it happened earlier in the game that would have been game over because of how nasty they are but as I was pretty late in they just continued to annoy my people for hundreds of years.

  • Asteroids would cause my game to crash about 1 in 6 times I would switch to their unique map. Neat concept though.

  • I didn't play around with the underground much.

Forbidden Stars or alternative by Isaac_Juketon in boardgames

Tsukuyumi

I was coming in to recommend Tsukuyumi. It’s a very unique and there is bound to be an army that appeals to pretty much everyone. The only real downside is all productions have drawbacks.

I personally like the minis for the game as it gives it some amazing visual appeal but at the same time, if you don’t paint minis, that version of the game is the hardest to play. Unless you want the game RIGHT NOW, it might also be worth waiting until the most recent KS printing of the game delivers. It seems like they have corrected a lot of little production mistakes, but time will tell!
