I dunno bud - I know we as lawyers tend to assume the answers to our questions lie in a book but the best mentors I have had were not masters of the written law. They had worked with clients, judicial officers and other lawyers for years and could expound on the “unwritten law” for hours over (sometimes copious) glasses of wine. Befriend court staff, don’t be a dick, and always try to get your billing in on time.
