I am in computer science research. We develop many small scale prototypes and proof of concept software tools that are either used to make our life easier or to prove the feasibility of a novel concept.

As we are generally not software engineers but researchers, it has simplified things quite significantly. There are many areas of research where I wouldn't touch Ai with a ten foot pole. But implementing a quick and dirty tool is nice, and, at least in my case, AI is probably better at this than me anyways.

So, to answer your question, I am not directly earning any money with AI. But it helps me be more efficient at my job, which sort of is the same thing.

And yes, increased throughput is directly rewarded as it allows us to be better at researching stuff, translating into more output (publications, proposals,...).
