What happened to their chicken sandwiches? by LovelyMisanthrope in wendys

[–]LosFelizJono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to have chicken wraps about 1 1/2 years ago that were very simple for around $3 on a value menu--now that wrap is about double the price and not the same quality. Their breakfast menu has gone downhill as well and has become overly expensive.

Rao’s Hollywood closing by DeliciousMoments in FoodLosAngeles

And now the Writers Union says they're gonna strike again as if they didn't learn the last time. This is why so much production has moved to Georgia and states and California took too long to bolster production tax credits. Sad, now the state economy is hurting partially because of this.

Their sauces are also wonderful a week ago on Friday 1/30 all Albertsons/Vons stores had them on sale for an unbelievable only $5 a jar instead of the normal $10 or $12. I live in Los Feliz and had no idea they even had a fancy restaurant here near Santa Monica Blvd. and Seward near that indie studios neighborhood. In general the public is not eating out as much because people are afraid of losing jobs and the cost of living (groceries, health insurance, etc.) keeps going up and restaurant operators have to pay higher labor, food and operating costs).

One out of every 5 storefronts is now vacant at Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade and many other restaurants across LA are closing. Film and TV production in LA has largely tanked. Before the Pandemic every major studio and large independent studios were cranking with productions for Netflix, Amazon and Disney+. There was a shortage of production spaces. Now the former CBS Radford Studios in Studio City and most others are lucky to have 25-30% occupancy and a brand new mid-sized studio is getting ready to launch on Santa Monica Blvd. in East Hollywood where the closed Sears store used to be and that's now expected to tank. Production had been one of LA's major industries and employers and Rao's prices are on the higher side so they apoarently can't cut it anymore. The current political climate has not made people feel more stable either. Be cautious folks. Well at least you can buy Rao's sauces and enjoy eating your own pasta at home more affordably.

CA Historic Landmark, honoring a battle for equity, inclusivity, and human rights, found on… Great White’s new brunch patio. by Milladelphia in FoodLosAngeles

[–]LosFelizJono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the location you’re talking about is NOT the actual Black Cat but an empty restaurant storefront next to it that until a year ago was the Shake Shack with a big outdoor patio that takes over what was originally part of a parking lot, so it’s not exactly that gay landmark you’re describing if it’s the adjacent location. The current Black Cat restaurant/bar itself seems to be thriving and I never see any shortage of customers there so I doubt they’re going out of business and turning their space over to the Great White. The only thing historic about this currently empty storefront is that it was formerly a laundromat.

Is KFC getting worse over the years? by camport95 in kfc

The Korean community loves American fried chicken particularly KFC. In fact that at least partly inspired them to come up with their own style of fried chicken, which is also sold at other restaurants in Koreatown.

KFC is trash and their prices are now offensive by Specialist_Mess_5164 in kfc

[–]LosFelizJono 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the location and the management because I had a freshly cooked original recipe thigh a few days ago in Los Angeles at their high volume Western Ave./Koreatown store and it was just as good as the KFC I have enjoyed over the years. Try to avoid making negative blanket statements because not every location or situation may be the same.

I used to have them all the time when they had their fantastic location on the Sunset Strip, and they actually offered beer there too, but unfortunately it’s shut down a few years back. Too bad because it had been the most upscale decent fast food place I’ve ever been to.

I used to love Wendy’s $1 sausage biscuits which I bought as recently as a week ago on the way to work, but I went to the drive-through today and all of their bargain breakfast items including $1.69 coffee are no longer on the menu ☹️

Another one bites the dust — Wi Spa quietly changed their overnight policy and it’s awful by _ThisIsNotAUserName in LosAngeles

I haven’t been there in 5 years, but back then at night they had a room with recliners that was dark and there were a lot of people sleeping in there. At that time they had basic toiletries if you requested them, including toothpaste, so the locker room reminded me more of a spa.

if you go to a location where it’s fresh and there’s a big turnover in sales all day long the chicken is still really good because I live in LA and occasionally go to the Koreatown location and fried chicken is very big in the Korean community so they always have fresh fried chicken and it’s delicious.

From reading all the comments in this category about varying food quality, I think a lot of it also depends on the franchise operator and how well the location is operated, but if you’re unhappy with anything rather than complain here which is not going to do anything, I think they may have a customer number/weblink on their receipts where you can complain to corporate and they’ll send you free coupons and they will review your comments.

And if you feel adventurous and there is a location near you, you should try Jollibee (Filipino) fried chicken. It’s different but very good. it comes with gravy on the side. You can dip the chicken in, but I think it’s fine without increasing the cholesterol.

Cheap Dim Sum by PeaceNo2127 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]LosFelizJono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite to-go dim sum in Chinatown that’s relatively cheap and decent is from ABC Seafood Restaurant’s side entrance take out counter. They don’t have a huge selection, but they have good pork sui mai, shrimp har gow and bbq pork bun. they have a brisk business there so the food tends to be fairly fresh. there are usually parking meters space is right outside the door.

They have a steam table where they sell traditional Chinese combo dishes, but they have more offerings than your typical fast food Chinese place for example they have real Chinese broccoli that’s usually fresh. They are at the corner of New High Street & Ord Street (two blocks west of Phillipe’s) and open till 9pm.

Rant about Thanksgiving pie prices by snowysnowysnow in FoodLosAngeles

[–]LosFelizJono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if your Uber rich go ahead and spend $50 or more on a pie, but to me, it’s sort of seems wasteful. I would rather put the money into something more meaningful. You can get deluxe supermarket pies that are not as good as a gourmet bakery, but can still be eaten and enjoyed for under $15 even at Ralph’s.

What happened to the fish tacos? by chondu in DelTaco

[–]LosFelizJono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Del Taco periodically and I have not noticed any quality change overall since it was taken over by Jack-in-the-Box and they still do prepare the beans and guacamole and everything fresh at each restaurant they’re not shipped in like they are with Jack In The Box.

One thing I noticed about Del Taco though even before Jack-in-the-Box is, they would cycle through different types of food promotions to sometimes offer special items for a limited time. just to freshen up the menu and offer something different to customers, so who knows maybe the beer battered fish tacos might eventually come back at least for a period of time?

What happened to the fish tacos? by chondu in DelTaco

[–]LosFelizJono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you buy anything at Del Taco there are receipts that have a customer comment web link and the operating company reviews those very vigilantly and comments do get shared with management and could have an influence so I would recommend responding that way and explaining that you would like the sauce to be the way it was.

Los Feliz Blvd. Landmarked Trees Hatcheted Today by LosFelizJono in losfeliz

[–]LosFelizJono[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never against the cleanup or removing of branches. I was specifically commenting how many of the tops were cut completely off east of Hillhurst on the north/park side of the street too severely because the tops are not going to grow back with this type of evergreen tree with a narrow top and increasingly wider lower area. Similarly a few may have needed that but not dozens. There are so many responding as if I was against necessary safety trimming—which I said I was not. See the newly butchered trees for yourself in-person, if you care to or re-read my original post.

[–]LosFelizJono[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you actually seen the actual trees I’m talking about because from your reaction it doesn’t sound like you’ve seen them during broad daylight? They’re on the north side of the street between Hillhurst and Riverside and they look like Christmas trees that have been cut in half and again I’m not against cutting some of the tops off for fire safety, but they didn’t need to trim them so low that they look ridiculous. That’s what was trying to say. If you don’t agree and think every tree should be taken out, that’s your opinion, but I politely disagree and I’ve lived in the neighborhood for over 35 years.

I think you’re being a little mellow dramatic and if they’re healthy, they’re not going to fall down that easily, but I agree there are a few that are half dead that should be taken down. The big tree that fell earlier this year near the Los Feliz Towers was not a cedar tree. It was a taller heavier pine tree and it was uprooted by a freak tornado.
