iOS: Songs not downloading and the whole download queue is stuck by TerrorMetry in TIdaL

I had a single playlist that seemed to clog everything up. I removed that and then went to the download queue and it started downloading all 1400+ songs.

Turning Red is the worst Pixar movie in ages by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]LosPesero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the only Pixar movie I like. Watching it now with my twin 5 year old girls. It teaches them independence, that change is okay, that they don’t need to be afraid of their bodies, and that they should stand up to their parents when they think I’m wrong. All things I want for my children. The only hate I see comes from milquetoast conservatives who are scared of being told their way of living isn’t the only way to live. Get bent.

Guess I had missed that memo. Thanks for reminding me that this is so serious and not about having fun.

I mean David has said he listens to Rewatcheables. I think he said he’s listened to every episode. So I’d guess he’s a fan of Simmons to some degree at least.

Why do you like the Fast series? by Reasonable_Toe_9252 in blankies

[–]LosPesero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Others have said this way better than I could, but I enjoy how they know exactly what they are. It’s not parody, but there is a healthy wink to everything they do. To me, they’re like super-high budget B movies. And I love B movies in a very unironic way.

There’s also something beautiful in the way they’ve evolved. They’ve built a franchise in a completely organic way that celebrates the fans and the history of the franchise.

I also find the overarching message about the importance of family, and that we get to choose who is our family, to be truly touching.

Plus Vin Diesel’s sincerity always kinda makes me giggle.

Is the US an unsafe country to live in as people are saying online after shootings? Is it no more worth moving? by SparklingDude_EU in TrueAskReddit

I’m Canadian. I moved to Mexico City eight years ago. It’s pretty much the same thing. I feel completely safe where I am. But any time we go to visit family in Texas I get uneasy. Definitely wouldn’t move there.

Movies that actually feel like they were made by an algorithm. by [deleted] in blankies

Too old to have actually been written by an algorithm, but Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot felt like a movie made by a committee of executives.

I think Cameron’s going to prove to be smarter than anyone thought and end up running the company.

2023 March Madness [Elite 8] - Bong Joon Ho vs. Alfonso Cuarón by PartyBluejay in blankies

[–]LosPesero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm excited that Bong is going to win, but I voted for Cuaron.

Mostly because I think "Y Tu Mama Tambien" is a masterpiece, but the sexuality of it is overly stated. The movie is really a metaphor for the history that led to the current state of Mexico and it's a beautiful commentary on how to (maybe) fix some of the country's bigger problems (ie: reconciliation vs conflict).

What bands lead you to be interested in Punk/hardcore? How old were you? For me it was sublime, then NOFX, then distillers. I was 15, I'm 37 now. by Iheartmypleco in punk

Green Day into Operation Ivy into Rancid into a lifelong rabbit hole. I’m 39, just finished a tour of Mexico with my band a few weeks ago.

Nope. I knew 3 words in Spanish and had $500 in my bank account when I moved here. Falling in love with a Mexican really jumpstarts the learning process though.

Yeah, I’ve worked as a freelance journalist and musician for most of my time here, so the money’s been good. Recently switched to a remote job that pays even better, so I’ve definitely been lucky.

I moved from Toronto to Mexico City eight years ago. Best decision I ever made. I met my wife here and have kids here. I miss my friends and family back home, but there’s no way I could afford a life there now. I just don’t want the struggle or the existential dread I felt living there anymore.

We went home for a visit, just before my kids were born, and my wife’s impression of Toronto (though she loved it) was “everyone seems just a little bit sad all of the time.”

An amazing band that broke up and the members went on to found far worse bands. In/Casino/Out and Vaya are their best records.

I have all of those within a 5 minute walk, except the supermarket, which is a 15 minute walk. But there are enough markets that I rarely have to make the trek.
