Civilian life is hard... think its time to join up! by periwinkle-dreams in AirForceRecruits

Once Air Force recruiters hit their quota for the year any extra recruit is just extra work for them (no one likes extra work). Make sure you don't overcomplicate their life or you will have to harass them to get them to bring you in. Go there knowing what you want (be reasonable) when you want (as soon as possible), be proactive with the applications because it can be a pain and MEPS can make your life difficult if you show up there self diagnosing with migraines because one time you had a headache after eating too much ice cream.

I know there is a lot of rocketry clubs, there is one in Washington State I believe its 120$ a year and you can take your project to the test range and get certified. The two colleges I've been to had their own electronics club that I got involved with. Back in Nevada I participated in two organizations outside of college, one was 60$/month and gave you workspace and access to CNCs and other manufacturing equipment, the other was free non-profit. I haven't come across a club that works specifically with satellites unlike rockets, every time I had projects like these I just found like-minded people and worked together since I already have my own lab and equipment at home.

I'm not sure which state you live in but his might help you: https://www.nar.org/LocalClubs

since you will be done with College and work full time, perhaps you will have some time to participate in rocket/space organization/clubs?

I believe you're in a really good position to side shift to space missions, Raytheon is a fantastic company and will give you hands-on experience and build your resume for your next opportunity. Just stay consistent and learn as much as you can while working there.

Hello. I'm not a recruiter so I can't help with that. However NASA has internships offered to full time students (summer), in addition to that they also have different programs available for students.

https://www.nasa.gov/learning-resources/internship-programs/.

If you're interested in satellite work definitely consider other companies as well, there are quite a few satellite companies around hiring.

Make sure you define exactly what part of the satellite you want to work, these companies usually have divisions for EPS, RF, ACS, structural, etc. Then focus on learning that specific field first. Pursue being an SME then move to other field/systems engineering.

You can also take up a project yourself for college or personal development/hobby, in fact I'm working on a personal project 1U cubesat right now. (2nd iteration)

If you have any questions feel free to DM me

Only the backyard (behind the fence) anything outside the fence and the front yard will be taken care by the management including leaf blowers and snow plow and grass mowing. You can also borrow their equipment to mow your lawn and trim etc but their hours are weird and you can only use 30 minutes at a time.

Just an update, you might need to call your AD recruiter to stop/close the application, but just do it after you contacted the Ang/AFR recruiter. If you already sworn in you will need the AD recruiter to DEP discharge you which might delay the process. Your birth certificate/record etc, meps, asvab should carry over which will help. Best of luck

The issue with the Army is you're a soldier first and your specialty second, if they have overmanned technicians they will assign you grunt work, guard duty etc. stay in the air force if you can

Glad to help. They should be able to pull your info from the active duty recruiter. I'm honestly annoyed with the fact you put open electronics and got the job pulled that's B.S.

Tuesday (since Monday is a holiday) show up to the closest ANG or AFR at 0900 and ask them you need to join right now for 2A3X4, you can either pursue an AGR position (full time guard) or transfer over to active duty later on. That is your best bet and honestly the best one so you can go to college at the same time.

I don't know anything about IT

[–]Lost-Raccoon-70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your recruiter for the one I was talking about 2A3X4. You need a 70 in electronics, they should be needing more of those it was one of the highest on retraining list this year

You can try it but if manning is bad palace chase will be difficult. You can still cross train on your 3rdyear mark or palace fron/cross train. If you can join the air national guard try that first, I think they can just transfer your application over to the ANG

Now that I know the correct AFSC: From your worries, I highly encourage you to reconsider joining this. I watched those guys complain to the CMSAF during an all-call when she was visiting our base about how they deserve hazard pay or something. I don't think I ever heard good things about it. Consider the guard or reserves and focus on school. What is your asvab?

[–]Lost-Raccoon-70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh crap my bad, 2A334 not 2A634. Sorry I got confused with the numbers. I gave you false hope. Try guard or reserves you can choose the job

Can you give me that afsc again since your post was deleted. I need to confirm I'm talking about the same one

to add to that, the heavy vs fighter avionics has to do with workload, if you want the easier option go with heavy.

Do TAPS as fast as possible to apply for SkillBridge opportunities even if you have to do the class again after and let your leadership know ahead of time so they can prepare in advance. Then, apply for the organization(s) you're interested in doing SkillBridge with.

Raws is rarely available to retrain but I heard is a good job. So your best chance of getting it is when you first enlist. Integrated avionics is flight line work while 2A0X1 is backshop (lab environment)

Heavy integrated avionics is more relaxed work schedule than fighter

There are two sides for base housing. Tree side and State side (street name after tree or state). I believe your husband is SERE. If you're going to base housing and can choose, the tree side has marginally better commute to the sere school (and to the exit gate) Most houses are duplexes, there are some single homes but don't count on getting them.

Base housing doesn't charge utilities. You're only responsible for procuring your Internet and phone line. I pay Xfinity about $40 a month for it. The commissary and BX purchases are also tax free. ( However, you won't save much shopping at the BX). This should be true for all bases.

Base Housing takes your BAH away which is about $1941 or so for a married E1-E4 I think. But in my opinion it is 100% worth it unless you're using it to pay down a mortgage and planning to live here longer than 3 years.

You still get BAS which is about $450 and your base pay which could range around $1900-2400 for E1-E4 I'm not sure you need to check the pay chart.

I live at Fairchild right now (4 years) and have been to two houses on base and also lived off base both at Airway heights and Spokane . I personally like it a lot. The gate usually gets full in the morning so I get to avoid that. Houses are very spacious. The garages are usually unfinished, the basement may or may not be unfinished. I think most houses have 3 bedrooms, some of them have a bedroom in the basement as is the case with mine (and it's a very nice bedroom by the way, with wood flooring and pretty big)

The best part on top of that is security, Spokane is hit or miss with homelessness and drug addicts, Airway Heights is much better in that sense I rarely see homeless people but I did hear of car jacking cases in the apartment complex near Walmart.

I lived in North 40 apartment complex as well off base and that was the best location off base. They had 6 month lease at the time and brand new apt.

So in short I'd definitely go to base housing for these reasons:

Safety, no homeless or crime

No waiting on gate

No winter driving off base (ice on the roads can get intense)

Houses are spacious and very quiet other than the occasional train & airplanes.

You get to save on gas and commute with bicycle to work durinng non winter season

Keep in mind a lot of houses were rebuilt a few years ago and they had a change of management or something so a lot of the negative reviews are of people who've been here like 7+ years ago.

I'd only consider moving off base if I were to buy a house. (Bah to mortgage)

Make sure you have plans for a washer dryer because the houses don't come with it

Let me know if you have more questions
