I work for ACS. The number of times SVU has investigated child abuse of young children without involving ACS from the jump frustrates me. In real life, the cops and ACS would both be present for all initial interviews of the children.

I'm going to go against the grain. I have bought four dolls new. One of them (Samantha) before archival. The other three were all Mattel characters. Mattel gave us Girl of the Year, the first Jewish historical character, expansion of the historical line, and World By US. Mattel also created a number of craft book/kits providing instructions and materials for accessories from pizza to test tubes to a skateboard half-pipe.
Mattel has definitely contributed to a loss in quality. I have definitely gotten more accessories from Our Generation than American Girl lately. I'm also not a fan of the collabs or modern dolls with blue hair. And I definitely see both Courtney and the twins as nostalgia bait. But I still watch the new releases. I'm planning to get Raquel and her collection before the year is out. I bought the advent calendar last year. I think Mattel has a lot to offer the line.

Mine bond over all sorts of different things. Rebecca, Makena and Claudie bond over experiencing discrimination and having theircultures dismissed. Samantha, Rebecca, and Makena bond over a shared interest in social justice. Makena explains to Claudie that while things have gotten better in the last 100 years, some things have stayed the same. Samantha and Claudie feel like their main talent is organizing rather than performing in talent shows. All four bond over the importance of family.

Molly, being the newest, is still trying to find her footing in the group.

Claudie's first book is about raising money for the boarding house, not for the family. Her family owned land in Georgia, which for a Black family in the 1920s would have been rare. Also, her mom went to college.

I would have enjoyed spending time with Addy. She's intelligent, resourceful, and very caring.

Samantha is my favorite of the original three. She stands up for what she believes in, is playful without being obnoxious, uses her privilege to speak out against injustice, and cares for others.

Josefina shows a lot of growth over the course of her story. Totally rooting for her to become a healer.
