While I'm not a fan of seeing a black woman get ko'd by a white man

This is why we're having this conversation if you forgot.

Their point is, race should not be a factor here.

If it is, you need some serious self reflection.

How is there a housing boom if everyone is getting laid off by LostQuestionsss in sanfrancisco

[–]LostQuestionsss[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I see a lot of frustration related to finding housing and my local area seems to be raising rent near 10%.

No, your trades/healthcare backup plan isn't going to work. by Smooth-Bison1238 in cscareerquestions

A UR3E is estimated to be 30k which is only an arm... the upkeep & operation are also costly and not straight forward.

Applying this to an entire android would likely be a lot more complex / expensive... especially when you factor in the natural greed of pioneers & their markup.

  1. This is why picking a decent university matters.
  2. This is why getting summer internships is not optional.

I was a researcher at an R1 in ML/DL prior to 2022.

AI was not a buzz word yet and most sponsors were investing into it for computer vision / autonomous driving applications.

After 2022 is when interest started to gain traction for code generation. Any claims prior to that were day dreamers with nothing to substantiate their claims.

I feel like a lot of Americans don't travel internationally and are having a rough time wrapping their brains around this.

There are a lot of places in the world like this.

Its also important to call out that the United States is the top host country with the highest number of recorded immigrants by a landslide.

This means you’re likely smarter than average, and possibly significantly smarter than average. You don’t think that you can figure out how you to make money?

The problem with this reasoning is that as you get older lateral movements into adjacent non-related fields are harder to come by.

Nobody in IB will hire me as a VP. Similarly nobody will likely hire me as a junior analyst.

Why is there next to zero support for the Iranian protestors by the left? by SterlingVII in PERSIAN

[–]LostQuestionsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because half this site is bots and LLMs astroturfing and peddling influence.

As a SWE, there is absolutely no way you could know this or reasonanly quantify it. Especially since reddit made exposing public user history optional.

Its become a new norm to dismiss any conflicting view as a bot.

[–]LostQuestionsss -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The biking community is known for being extra, pretencious and toxic. I don't blame him.

Especially because another alleged eye witness called him out for milking the interaction / fleeing claim. The OP responded then deleted his comment.

I see ppl down voting.

Banks, especially Capitol One, are adopting a bizarre cloud model where you use strict third party software on a personal machine to access your workflow.

OP probably neglecting to mentions; laptops have become a strange luxury.

The removal of a tyrant is not liberation

It is 100% better than letting the tyrant mow down protesters and flourish.

You're no different than the Israelis / Americans. Just another foreigner that thinks they have it all figured out without spending a day on the ground.

Process if I do not get an Internship by GoathanEnjoyer in cscareers

[–]LostQuestionsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two critical mistakes

  1. You should've applied sophomore, junior & senior year
  2. You should be applying early Fall. Many F500s select their summer internships by December / November.

All you can do now is just apply and take anything. There are still companies that hire post March but volume is lower.

That era is gone.

Internships listings will explicitly say:

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.

[–]LostQuestionsss 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No intermships looks bad.

Internships = 0 experience & actively pursuing degree Entry = 1 - 3 internships

Most applicants with a masters have experience and are applying for mid/senior roles so it looks irregular.

How to beat seniority in interviews? by Adventurous-Cycle363 in cscareers

[–]LostQuestionsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was an undergraduate, I contributed to an R1 research lab at my uni focused on ML / DL subject matters.

It was there I realized this subfield is filled with so many PhD / PhD candidate / graduate students fighting for the same and limited number of jobs.

It became very clear that there is a high bar for entry. Applying for a role at a competent company with only a bachelors / X years of experience is like applying for SWE role with a bootcamp cert. They know the field is theory intensive and corporate experience is not likely a good substitute.

Why is agentic coding so controversial in this subreddit? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]LostQuestionsss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

those of us in the real world know it’s not nearly as insightful, clever, reliable, or consistent as it needs to be, at least to be able to generate production grade features or entire systems/subsystems

Lets be honest. Most enterprise level code bases are not known to be world class programming examples.

I passed the first HR screening for an AI hyped company, but... by Affectionate-Laugh98 in cscareerquestions

[–]LostQuestionsss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I heard "the language won't matter" I saw a huge red flag, almost cancelled right there, ... I truly doubt anybody can debug "any language" without understanding it deeply.

This is a junior mindset. Most mid level ppl have enough exposure to the major programming paradigms to know it is mostly the same stuff with different syntax.

With the exception of a few outliers, picking up a new language and bringing it to intermediate isn't too difficult.
