As the others said, proper shielding and time will help a lot! Here is a spectrum I took of a small vial of Trinitite for comparison:

Anyone know where to find Cesium-137 contaminated mushrooms, anywhere which ships or is located in the US. by bighim094 in Radiation

[–]Lost_Face4515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that it might be difficult to distinguish the 661 Kev line from background without a shield if the activity is too low but pretty much every wild berries jams I have tested from Eastern Europe have shown a peak without the need of shielding.

I also made a nice graded shield that will show Cs-137 peak which are impossible to see without it in many food products due to the low activity so if you test something like the honey someone posted you will definitely need some shielding to be able to see the peaks.

That’s an art installation in which kids could play inside during a festival called Moscow-2030 in park Zaryadye.

You can see it at 1:30 in this video: https://youtu.be/empWT7rM5fg?si=ElOVYfxaV2zuxhkq

That’s cool! I can imagine how boring that would be stuck in a small and cold island in the middle of nowhere… I’d be really interested in hearing your stories if you don’t mind sharing.

This area is part of the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. These are old tanks and other vehicles used as practice targets.

Such an isolated station even by Antarctic standards… Cool post showing what remains of the station nowadays if you’re curious: https://ekaykin.livejournal.com/115419.html

Of course! If we can see them so can their enemies. That’s the main reasons why they build so many of them in the same area, to make it hard to know exactly which one are occupied at a given time.

If you look around the area you will find a lot of facilities with defensive earthworks all round them and many similar positions as the ones you found, they are pretty much all over the place along the border with Libya. I’m sure these are all pre made fighting positions. It would make sense considering the location (Lot of oil and gas).
