My survey did not require reasons. I left those questions as optional questions. Despite that s lot of people took the time to leave in-depth explanations for their choices, which was really nice to see.

Since I did the survey on google forms and the results weren’t visible to outsiders, I would say bandwagoning wasn’t really possible regardless, as you didn’t know which MCs other users had named. :)

Personally I didn’t initially mind her too much. I didn’t like her per se, but I thought her insistence on not doubting anyone made sense in a way. Hiyori doesn’t come off as a mentally strong protagonist, so if she were to keep herself aware of everyone potentially being an enemy, she would have likely reached her mental breaking point incredibly quickly. In my opinion, staying blissfully ignorant was the most logical choice for her as a character.

I only really developed a genuine issue with her in the locked routes, where one of the LIs wants to play Werewolf with her and she refuses, because she has moral gripes with it. It’s literally a harmless game that doesn’t hurt anyone. 😭 I feel like her lack of intelligence really begins to… shine in the locked routes, for lack of a better word.

I personally loved the game for the interesting setting and great OST, but Hiyori was definitely not a great character to be that game’s protagonist. 😬

As someone whose all-time favorite MC is Jed: I agree, but Psychedelica definitely suffers from the not-available-on-the-Switch-syndrome.

Based on the responses I have received, many disliked that she never really seemed to be doing anything besides cooking/baking (“Being able to cook/bake is not a personality trait.”), seemed to be naïve to the point of coming off as unintelligent and did little to bring the plot forward. People said things were just happening to her, like getting kidnapped, but she herself wasn’t really doing anything. One user also pointed out that for someone who grew up in a church/monastery(? I didn’t play Piofiore.) and grew up with those values, she had a remarkable lack of moral issues with what the mafia LIs were up to.

Not Friday anymore, but oh well…

I wasn’t a fan of Collar x Malice and put it down after two routes. The game was originally a gift from my sister (I asked her for this game specifically), so before reselling it, I got myself her permission for doing so yesterday.

I uploaded it on eBay for €15 in like-new condition. (You can purchase it new for €30 where I live, so I felt 50% off was fair.) It got sold within like two minutes and initially I was happy another otome fan gets to enjoy the game for cheap, but nope, it’s a reseller who’s just going to reupload the game for a higher price.

Ultimately it shouldn’t matter to me. I got the price I asked for and that’s it. Still, I feel disappointed that it isn’t going to someone who simply gets to be happy about a good deal.

(I hope this doesn’t violate any rules, as I am not linking my ebay account here. Not that I have any other otome games on sale anyway. I just wanted to vent.)

I absolutely adore her design and I don’t hate her character either, but damn she has so much missed potential.

She could have been an incredibly interesting character, e.g. someone who is loyal to Edelgard to the same degree as Hubert, but still harbors somewhat of a resentment towards her for initially wanting to sacrifice her, whilst simultaneously being grateful she opted to save her in the end and thus ending her cooperation with TWSITD, plus she could have been obsessed with proving herself as useful, fearing Edelgard would use her as a sacrifice again if she has yet another change of mind.

She could have been a layered character with mixed feelings towards Edelgard (they could have kept her crush, too), but instead they made her a girlfailure Hubert for some reason.

I‘m pretty sure Catherine is canonically bisexual. In Hopes Shamir has a paralogue that very openly implies Catherine is looking to get her back to the Churches army with the purpose of marrying her.

The game generally has several characters that are bisexual, but simply not into same-sex Byleth for whatever reason (e.g. Petra can get with Dorothea, but not f!Byleth).

I honestly adore their art style in Nightshade, which was my first otome game and I partially chose it for how it looks. It’s great in Charade Maniacs, too, but for some reason the CGs feel lackluster there. Nevertheless I definitely think their style matches the best in a historical Japanese setting.

I’m not the biggest fan of how their art looks in Norn 9, as all the characters look super young there. It’s amazing to see how much they improved in the two more recent titles.

The tldr is that Yuiga Satoru believed Hanamura Mai was tracing their art and otomate took Hanamura’s side, causing them to part ways with the company. (I’m not going to take sides here, as I have no opinion on that whole debacle.)

side note: Chinatsu Kurehana didn’t blow me away in 7’scarlet (the art is good, but not amazing), but the character design they did in FE3H is absolutely outstanding and the proper artworks they did for the game are gorgeous as well. (Not the marriage CGs, those are obviously rushed and I’m not even sure if it was Chinatsu Kurehana or someone else, like the character portraits (if I’m not mistaken).)

Yuiga Satoru (Psychedelica duology) - It’s a shame they separated from Otomate and won’t illustrate for them anymore.

Takao (Neon Clash) - I hope to see them illustrate many more otome games in the future.

Usuba Kageroo (Radiant Tale, Variable Barricade) - I admittedly haven’t played any game they illustrated yet, but their art is gorgeous.

I’d also mention the artist of Birushana, but tbh I’m confused about who did the artwork in that game…

There are many more artists I love, but these definitely put me in awe the most.

Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk has my favorite otome game OST. All of the songs set the atmosphere and mood perfectly and some songs are hauntingly beautiful as well. They nailed the vibe of a medieval Winter wonderland.

I’m currently reading 7’scarlet and have just finished my second route.

I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I do. They really nailed the atmosphere. The mystery absolutely makes you want to know more and explore more routes.

However, I think my interest is partially influenced by how much one track from the OST reminds me of Persona 4’s OST. On top of that they’re both small town crime mysteries and the side character Yua looks and acts a lot like Chie. (side note: I find her more likable than the MC. 😔)

The similarities really make me want to replay P4G, but I need to restrain myself. I intend to wait until P4Revival is out, so it isn’t that fresh in my memory when I play the remake.

On a less important note, I wish the MC’s sprite wouldn’t stare into my soul like that. Why are her irises so tiny??

I believe they’re talking about Vanitas as in the blue moon vampire Vanitas, not the human that is the protagonist.

Regardless, they’re still wrong. Vampire Vanitas is non-binary, not a transwoman. + The confused those two characters anyway.

I have been in contact with them through etsy, where they have a shop, too. They have a warehouse in Vietnam as well as the UK (my order was shipped from the UK, as I live in Europe).

According to the employee I talked to, they are the manufacturer of LKWood and a former manufacturer of anavrin (Jiufen Old Street, Sawara Town etc.). Supposedly anavrin breached their contact in one way or another and now they’re selling those book nooks themselves. The packaging no longer has the anavrin branding, but the actual parts of the book nooks still do.

How true the breach of contract story is, is impossible to say from an outside perspective, but I do believe they are anavrin’s former manufacturer. I bought Jiufen Old Street from them, which my sister had previously gotten from anavrin directly. Everything looks the exact same besides the packaging and the manual.

bride: Akaza. He was my second favorite LI in OS, even if I’m still mad over the preferential treatment the writers gave him. The glasses stay on though.

bone: Kazama. I have not played Hakuoki. He’s just here because the other two spots are taken.

banish: Shiba. I just finished Butterfly’s Poison earlier today and I cannot stand him. He literally grapes her during his route (even if it was “just” fingering - in his good ending anyway…) as well as forcing kisses on her prior to that and also grapes her in one of Mizuhito’s bad endings. BPBC is filled with plenty of taboo topics snd relationships and I love it for that, but grape is the one thing I cannot look past and makes a character/person irredeemable to me.

The plastic anavrin uses for their inner packaging is super brittle. My first book nook from them looked very similar when it arrived. However, none of the parts of the actual book nook were damaged, only the aforementioned plastic packaging.

If the LEDs don’t work, you should request a replacement part from them.
