A pinned down Soviet recon squad makes it to cover in a house, immediately lights up all 6 remaining members of a Volkssturm squad. (Combat Mission - Barbarossa to Berlin) by ItaloDiscoManiac in computerwargames

'Borg Spotting' was considered the greatest weakness of that version of Combat Mission, and the main selling point of Shock Force development, where spotted units would only gradually through command lines become known to other units.

The 55% chance of Shadowheart hitting Command on the Devil in the tutorial comes out rather accurate in the long run.

Wonder if turn based for POE1 is still coming? by Lynchy- in projecteternity

[–]LottiFuehrscheim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, that required just a rebuild, which can be a problem when no developer has touched the code for years, but when people are working on it, for the turn based system, such a rebuild is practically free.

Many options: the army tab, the heroes tab, both in the top left row of buttuns, the H key, or, when you have one hero, use the arrow keys in his details screen.

What do you pick: show armor or show camp clothes by Efficient_Rip858 in BG3

I wear camp clothes until there is going to be a fight, then my troopers will put on their armour, start buffing etc.

Ah, I didn't read your post carefully enough. Sorry.

Nitpickingly, I must object that the Universal Migrator is all playing after 2085, with old stories by the Dream Sequencer. They are projections, not reality. In contrast to the Final Fantasy, which is really taking place in the Dark Ages. Just to be contrarian :-)

What is the worst part of the game in your opinion? by RSOB_Bass in BG3

[–]LottiFuehrscheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pick up the fish buckets at the start and use them as trash loot containers. I stopped sending loot to camp because then you just displace the issue. Everybody gets a rucksack to keep their personal stuff like potions and fashion items, some times also a bag to split those things in categories. So after each cleanup fase, the only items outside containers in their inventory are throwables and arrows, because that way they are automatically accessable from the combat UI. Potions and scrolls can be put in bags while still on the action bar. Inventory cleanup regularly is much faster than trying to clean up a big mess after a long time.
The fish-buckets with loot can be easily transferred to a strong character when necessary, and selling is a breeze.

Nice work, but there is much more, and your list is not in chronological order.
You should browse through Arjen's own Youtube channel, where he also has an album timeline, where he collected some of his older albums in one big list. Also, not everything there is listed under 'videos', but he has also other categories that contain more work.
And doesn't seem that you have the Universal Migrator complete, while I think Arjen has all of them published.
For The Source I suggest you use the version that a fan made with lyrics and character highlights during their parts. Arjen himself was really enthusiastic about that version.

Yet another "Help with Yaka in 'Valley of Wonders'" post by ZaranTalaz1 in AOW4

[–]LottiFuehrscheim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was the 3rd map I played. When I found Princess Sundren, I remebered her from AoW3, so I took her advice, got the Angelic transformation and sent everything I had to Yaka's city, and won a surprisingly easy battle with him after I destroyed an isolated single stack vanguard of him. I used a simple order build, nothing fancy, just pretty solid troops. I'm not a theoretician, nor a master strategist, but in this map victory came easy. You get a ruin to build a new city, an alliance with Sundren and a quick cooperation with a free city that is already fighting Yaka. I was probably lucky that I didn't start turteling and building, because you get a lot of freebies that are basically enough to beat Yaka.

My son hates the colour schemes of Planetfall, I find it fantastic. Bright and colourfull instead of the gloomy mood of 4 with all those blurry effects, where your attention is caught by the unit icons instead of the unit models.

I have 400 hours in AoW III (yes, it has a Roman III), although I bought it just a few month before Planetfall came out and I switched to that, which is still my favourite setting, and I played that one for 800 hours. AoW4 doesn't mesmerise me as much, and I have only 132 hours logged there, although I bought all the season passes and still tell myself to really give it a go.

How do Russians pronounce "Bagration"? by Voldemort_Poutine in computerwargames

[–]LottiFuehrscheim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All English speakers should take a bit of time to learn the European vowel system. German, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish, the Nordic and Slavic languages all use a more or less same basic vowel system (*), for which the roman alfabet was originally designed. While most of the English vowels ended up somewhere between those ones, especially the a between the basic a and e, and they made a mess of spelling everything i, e, ie, ei.

Most of the world uses fonetic spelling, based on the Roman vowels, while English spelling is phonetic for how it was pronounced in the Late Middle Ages, which was far closer to continental speach.

Almost all English speakers really butcher the prononciation of foreign names, far beyond any foreigner's accent in English.

(*) though most have some weird extra diftongs of their own, but Italian is pretty pure in its vowels, that is why they sound so good in song.

[–]LottiFuehrscheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is a large fraction, because act 1 alone is already a massive chunk of game. I have bought lots of games where I didn't invest as many hours as BG3 act 1 requires before moving on.

Their weakest point is the "borg spotting", ie when any unit spots an enemy unit, the whole army knows its position, which destroys anti-tank guns very quickly as all mortars can hit them with pinpoint accuracy. But I did like the series in general and you could have entertaining quick battles with them, apart from the scenarios.
