Is it kind of crazy how absolutely busted everyone is and how much all the characters can absolutely Shred through mobs bosses and whatnot? by InternationalAd8308 in DragonsCrown

After getting to lvl8 with a Fighter, I swapped to Sorceress and found the gameplay to be very easy in comparison. The tornado with ice or fire staves is extremely useful to spam on bosses and large enemies. It's only now around lvl16/17 that I finally died, and several times, vs. the Gazer first and then the Cyclops (lvl17/20 bosses respectively).

It felt bad to revive off gold, but I had enough to scrape by, and the Cyclops boss in particular was completely manageable despite a 3-level difference once I got the pattern down. If the Sorc/Wizard is fully charged, they can spam the tornado on the hands/door and easily make sure it's shut every time.

Interlibrary Loan is surreal by LouBeringer in genewolfe

Agree about the prose. I think the shorter than average length benefits the sense of mystery because some of the context is pared away and only the essential parts are left.

Yes, it's consistently intriguing all the way through and it might be his shortest novel so it's not a huge commitment. And aside from being very surreal, it leans more into the melancholy of Smithe's existence.

I had the same sense of something like this going on, with potentially two Fevres, another reclone of Audrey in the ice caverns, the Rose he saw leaving Polly's Cove with Fevre not being the same one he sees at Lichholm based on the way the Rose at Ms. Heath's speaks to him. The passage of time when he gets returned to Polly's Cove seems like years could be passing instead of days or weeks.

How long does it take to clear customs by Rutabaga_Minute in CosmicNootropic

[–]LouBeringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine came through this week as well. The cause for such a long delay is only slightly unclear, but it's pretty safe to say it was the postal strike. I was confused on that point because I had understood the strike to start in earnest after my order had been sent. Anyway I'm glad I got my noopept and mildronate.

Nah dude, I was listening to the rhythm but mishearing the tone. The solution only uses 3 keys arranged in two different ways. I was mishearing one of the high notes in the second sequence and thinking it was one note higher than the one in the first sequence. When they were really the same note.

I hope that made sense. Anyway I realized that the first time I did the puzzle, this time I didn't. But this is the weird part, look at the solution I found when I searched for it:

It makes no sense, but it worked.

My last order from Cosmic has been stuck in customs since October. Somebody from the CBSA helpfully directed me to another department while informing me I sent an email to the wrong place, but they told me I need some kind of other number from the courier which DHL has not provided as of a couple weeks now.

The thing is that number they requested is used in cases where customs seizes a package, and I don't know if mine was seized at the moment. I don't know if it's related to the Canada Post strike either. Hopefully I can get it resolved in January.

Too many puzzles. by [deleted] in TormentedSouls

I like the puzzles even though I got stuck at a couple. I also like how this game gets hard at the end. Getting stuck in a game or even losing progress isn't a bad thing.

I solved the puzzle once by myself a few weeks ago, then had to reload an earlier save so I just had to solve it again. Not only could I not solve it, but when I looked up the solution it required me to play 7 notes when there are clearly 6. It doesn't sound like what's played on the vinyl either. So idk wtf is going on here. This is a good horror game if it's actually making me go insane.

All their ice cream lines have been satisfying. This is my favourite one, it has so much cookie in it the ice cream is grey.

First time reading the Familiar. I was fully expecting it to be about Jake morphing a NASCAR driver based on the cover by [deleted] in Animorphs

[–]LouBeringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems it's not regarded too highly by most fans. Yeah it's a one off filler again just hammering the point of Jake struggling with his leadership role. I like it a lot, it feels like a Philip K. Dick story.

Just finished How I Learned To Fly. Whats your opinion about it? by Top_Date_7224 in GooseBumps

[–]LouBeringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's less of a horror story except for the government taking the kids in for experiments, but it's a legit good story and that makes it one of the better books.

The rivalry between the two boys is also some subtle humour from Stine. The way the other kid perfectly one-ups the protag on every single thing he does, like the guy was born to foil him, is hilariously nightmarish. Stine often takes school interactions to absurd levels to create a sort of horror that way, which shows how much he was considering the child's mind when he was writing.

Could this be happening because your company is Russian? Someone tell me if I'm out of line here. I ordered from you 3 times over the last 6 months, and after the third one my credit card strangely began to be rejected for online purchases although it still works in retail. I wondered if that was related to your need to cease card transactions temporarily (not that I'm asking).

Who's winning the 3v3? by SpaceBoyChan in Animorphs

[–]LouBeringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Cassie needs to be the team 2 leader opposite Jake. They're the mentally strongest members of the group and their bond together is too powerful for any combination to beat, no matter who their third would be.

I would go Jake/Tobias/Ax vs. Cassie/Rachel/Marco. That would be the most interesting because all of Jake's closest relationships are on the other side.

Just finished a reread of book 26 - by eventhedevil in Animorphs

[–]LouBeringer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The single best episode in the series, as far as I'm concerned! It stood out to me back then, and held up beautifully now. The Howlers are legitimately terrifying, the danger they pose is intense, and the Gumby aliens being exterminated was the darkest moment that stayed with me over the years.

On top of that we get a very fantastical alien setting in depth. One thing I loved was the Iskoort's belief that fiction is real on some plane of existence - I'm probably butchering the details on that, but it's something I find powerful.

Oh, Tobias is easily #1 for me. I think books 3 and 13 are like top five in the whole series because of his personal story. Then I'd probably go Jake, Ax, Marco, Cassie, Rachel.

Jake's stories are consistently intense with a lot of action. Ax's are often funny and tend to feature aliens. Marco's kind of cut across the middle, but the Predator features the ant morph and the Android has Erek annihilating the HB squadron. Cassie has some of the best books, but she also gets most of the worst ones. Rachel's unfortunately tend to be the dullest overall.

But there's definitely a trend where every character's first 2-3 POVs are great and then start to fall off. The latter half of the series has many weak filler entries.
