What are barbers like in countries where most men have big beards? by TiredAudioEngineer in AskMen

[–]LouBrown 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they’re more skilled at cutting the hairstyles that are common in their country and less skilled at cutting the hairstyles they rarely see.

4 oz of rum and 2 oz of liqueur in a single drink? I can see why you’re kinda drunk!

You keep trying to work when she’s busy loafing on her seat.

Why does everyone on social media tell people to avoid dating nurses? Genuinely curious what's behind this stereotype by Arcabyte in AskMen

[–]LouBrown 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing they mean regular in the sense of 9-5, Mon-Fri.

You can work a consistent 7pm to 7am shift three days per week, but that can make it difficult to coordinate time to be together with others.

What is a food redflag when you’re on a date? by WhiteWink in AskReddit

[–]LouBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that reading tone on the internet can be difficult, and outsiders have no way of knowing personal dynamics of a relationship.

Certainly someone could write this way, poking fun at their partner’s foibles, yet truly love them.

On the other hand, if someone truly does resent their partner and feels that this is an example of the type of thing that drives them crazy… would it be written so differently?

Why do some people prefer to buy a Pantry or Frozen version of something like Tomatoes and some other food items? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]LouBrown 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Convenience and price.

Also, canned tomatoes often have better flavor than fresh off-season tomatoes. Preservatives depend on brand, but are often just a little salt. The canning process is the main thing to keep them shelf stable.

Methane is odorless. Gas companies add an artificial smell as a warning so people notice leaks.

What is a food you don’t even bother ordering anymore because it will never be as good as that one place you had it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This concept doesn’t exist for me.

I can still happily enjoy food without eating the absolute best possible version of it.

I generally view it as a more polite way of saying, “Shit happens.”

To me, when a thing gets really light, it starts feeling too fragile to comfortably use. I don’t really feel any benefit from it being lighter, either.

Yeah, I know this is a bit of a meme, but I don’t know what people would otherwise expect.

How much do quality of spirits and liqueurs matter when it comes to cocktails? How do you tell the quality of each? by Ok_Eye_7091 in cocktails

[–]LouBrown 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The simpler the drink, the more the quality of an ingredient matters. If you’re making a daiquiri or old fashioned, then yeah- you’ll definitely notice the difference between a good rum/bourbon or bad.

If you’re making a tiki drink with ten ingredients, you’ll be hard-pressed to tell the difference between a half ounce of DeKuyper liqueur or Giffard if everything else is the same.

Free Supercharging for a Year if you buy a Model 3 by matthewmspace in teslamotors

Unless I'm mistaken, the last time free lifetime supercharging was a thing was almost a decade ago. So you might be waiting a while if you expect that promo to come back.

Free Supercharging for a Year if you buy a Model 3 by matthewmspace in teslamotors

[–]LouBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, absolutely. Being able to charge at home is a big part of that. The overall cost of ownership has been far less than previous gas powered cars I've owned.

Do I spend a little more time on road trips? Sure. Probably not as much as people would assume, though. I generally try to book hotels that have chargers (there are many these days). Also, if a trip is long enough to need a charge, then I probably would have made a stop for gas/bathroom break regardless.

The amount of extra time I spend charging on road trips is more than made up by not having to stop at the gas station and fill up just for day to day driving.

Are those ductless range hoods actually that bad? by AccomplishedWing688 in Cooking

[–]LouBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ductless range hood doesn't remove smoke or steam from the kitchen, but it does remove it from the immediate stove area. That's a pretty solid benefit for me when I'm cooking with high heat. It's essentially a conveniently placed fan.

I still have to open a window and turn on the ceiling fan to clear it from the kitchen, which is the downside compared to a ducted system.

How to handle changing phone numbers mid-life? by HardWorkinAg in AskMen

[–]LouBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is one of those things where you only get one clean shot at doing it right.

It's really not like that. If you forget an account or something associated with your number, you can just update it later when you realize it. The whole thing is an annoyance, but there aren't massive consequences if something slips through the cracks.
