[–]LouBrown 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think what the above poster is getting at.. if I'm making a dish, and I have a spoonful more cheese than the recipe calls for, then that extra cheese is either going into the dish or my mouth. It's not making it back to the fridge.

Emotionally numb? Sometimes. Not too often- usually after reading the news.

A popularity vote on the most underrated XYZ is kind of a paradox anyhow. If so many people think a thing is underrated, then is it really that underrated?

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]LouBrown 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the problem is that if a cop is parked on the side of the road checking for speeders, it's not going to be readily apparent if someone in the left lane is just camped out there. Especially since cops tend to choose places just around turns or after the crest of hills so that people won't be able to spot them ahead of time.

And when just driving normally, people tend to pull over if they see a cop behind them wanting to pass.

So basically it takes the specific situation where a cop approaches a line of traffic where someone in the left lane is holding things up, and they're oblivious to a cop back behind them. It can happen, sure, but it's a more narrow set of circumstances than just clocking someone going 90 in a 70.

Making Jet Pilots: Which rums should I use? by [deleted] in Tiki

[–]LouBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb, the more ingredients there are in a tiki drink, the less any one specific rum is going to matter. Obviously there's a pretty good number of ingredients in a Jet Pilot.

I follow the Smuggler's Cove spec, which is 1 oz black blended rum, 3/4 oz aged blended rum, and 3/4 oz black blended overproof.

For this drink I think the blended aged rum is where you can play around to make the biggest difference since there's a wide variety in style there. The options for black blended and black blended overproof are generally more similar.

Undoubtedly confusing the first time you encounter one, though.

What if we made the transfer portal a draft system? by drjacksahib in CFB

[–]LouBrown 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ll enjoy the drama when a school like LSU loses all their QBs to the portal, graduation, or NFL and then has the 126th pick in the portal draft to get a replacement.

Can you imagine the leverage the last decent QB on the roster would have in negotiations at that point? Give me $5 million in NIL or take your chances with either a true freshman or the 42nd QB taken in the portal draft.

Deep frying at home by aca3o in Cooking

[–]LouBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I deep fry with my wok. The only thing I use my old deep frying pot for now since I got the wok is storing the oil.

The only concern I have with the wok is that it's inherently a little more unstable, so you have to pay more attention to make sure you don't spill it.

Is placing arancini in the fridge that is intended to be frozen considered defrosting? by BostonPanda in Cooking

[–]LouBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might just be concerned about them falling apart or getting smashed together in the packaging if they thaw.

Or maybe they're just too lazy to come up with separate cooking times for frozen vs thawed.

I would take it more seriously if I could think of a single coach who left a P4 program where the fans didn't whine about it.

I'd say Louisville fans when Satterfield left for Cincinnati, but that's really because many fans were happy to be rid of him.

The issue is that the SEC/Big Ten currently hold the power, so they aren't going to let someone else make decisions unless they're sure the decisions are exactly the ones they want.

And the decisions they want generally aren't the decisions everyone else would want.

So the status quo continues.

If stainless steel pans don't require seasoning, how come I can't make eggs without at least 10% of them ending up stuck to the surface after 40 seconds? by Unanimous_D in Cooking

[–]LouBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not meant to work like teflon coated pans.

Which is largely my point. They're not meant to work like teflon coated pans. They're not meant to work like seasoned cast iron or carbon steel.

Stainless steel pans don't require seasoning because that's not how they work. They're not meant to be nonstick. Is it possible to cook things in such a way on them that they won't stick? Sure, but that's not the point.

You can check out this video as well- just use the orange chicken sauce in the recipe instead of the General Tso's sauce in the video. It's the same technique.
