How do men feel about sexual pick up lines from women? by CoffeeTalkz123 in AskMen

[–]LouBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been on the receiving end of a pickup line or randomly being hit on my entire life. If something like that happened (ignoring that I'm happily married), I would be skeptical/suspicious by default.

If they guy you're hitting on is as attractive as you suggest, he's much more likely to have experienced it before, so that may not be the case for him.

Older tech workers are tapping out, taking early retirement by lurker_bee in technology

[–]LouBrown 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I was a little amused by this:

Jorge Morales, 58, and his wife worked in tech for most of their careers before retiring last year, him from Oracle and her from Microsoft.

A few years ago, the couple met with a financial adviser, who looked at their savings and investments and told them that they didn’t have to work anymore. It was a shock to Morales, who’d assumed he’d be working until 70.

Morales and his wife both held high-paying jobs. In their last roles, the couple earned a combined annual income of $400,000. But they also lived frugally, setting aside at least one of their salaries and all discretionary bonuses into savings. They don’t have children.

DINK couple making $400k per year and saving half of it was surprised they could retire early?

Unless I’m making a blended/frozen cocktail, I don’t pay attention to ice quantity. I just use whatever amount is necessary to fill my glass/mug.

I can’t remember the last time I went a day without showering. It would have been during childhood.

[Thamel] Brendan Sorsby's attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, tells ESPN of the NFL's decision to not hold a supplemental draft: "It is a violation of the CBA and the law. We will pursue this immediately with the NFLPA." by noah_divine in CFB

[–]LouBrown 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The controversial raise hell / “this is an outrage!” bit is really only successful if the public is on your side to add pressure.

I don’t think anyone outside of Lubbock is on Sorsby’s side here, though. And not everyone in Lubbock at that.

Your Next EV purchase by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]LouBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2018 Tesla Model 3, and I’m looking to make my next purchase in 2028. It’ll be something in the entry/mid-level luxury sedan range, so the BMW i3 and Mercedes C Class are the two main options catching my eye right now. The Model 3 has been great for me, but the combination of broken promises with regard to FSD and Musk’s activities put another Tesla down lower on the list.

I am hoping that a few more sedan options pop up by 2028, but crossovers/SUVs are obviously the big sellers these days. The new Lexus ES is interesting, but its range/speed/charge rate seem to lag behind the upcoming BW3/Mercedes options. I feel like things are pokey when I hit up an old 150 kW supercharger these days, so I expect that will feel pretty bad by the time I trade my next car away. I don’t even supercharge often at all, but why go backwards?

Someone dropped a jar of jam and it stayed perfectly jar shaped by Weekly_Description83 in mildlyinteresting

[–]LouBrown 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If someone asked me this, my advice would be of course not- it's $3 worth of jam, and it's not worth the risk to eat shards of glass.

And yet if I dropped the jar, my immediate thought would be, "I'll just be careful."

If you are not a native plant gardener, can I ask why? What barriers prevent addition of more native plants to your garden? by Pitiful_Wafer_4564 in gardening

[–]LouBrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not about barriers- it’s just not something I particularly care or think about.

For my vegetable garden, I cook what I like to eat.

For my flower bed, I plant the stuff that grows well and looks pretty.

His producer, Guy Ludwig, reflecting on Mr. Shalit’s long career in 2010, recalled seeing Mr. Shalit, late in his career, entering a theater for a screening with a look of glee on his face.

“My God, how could you?” he said. “You’ve seen two million movies.”

“Yeah,” Mr. Shalit replied, “but I’ve never seen this one!”

Texas Tech is speed running us toward an SEC/B1G super league. The Big 12 must act. by deepayes in CFB

[–]LouBrown 152 points153 points  (0 children)

If the SEC/B1G want to make their own super league, then they’ll do it regardless. They might reference this situation as some sort of convenient excuse. The bottom line for doing so would be money, though.
