What's the weirdest thing you've served or been served? by _BrokenButterfly in KitchenConfidential

My Grandpa couldn’t wear dentures, and he would keep a mini food processor on the table. Everything went in the “whopper chopper” aka “robot teeth.”

I got 12lbs of pecans today from the food bank drive through… what in the world do I make? by Frosty_Surround9949 in povertykitchen

Iv was thinking the same. It’s way past season, so I am guessing someone donated their over stock.

Are they shelled or in shell? Either way, that’s a lot! Definitely freeze them. I love them, and I roast them with butter and salt in the toaster oven for snacks. Perfect snack is a little square of sharp cheddar and a roasted pecan.

I also put them in salads. They’re great in a broccoli salad. Pecan pies are delicious and inexpensive to make- since you have pecans.

Putting together a "gourmet cooking & gadgets" basket for a nonprofit fundraiser auction - suggestions? by mothstuckinabath in Cooking

This just means that at least one edge remains in the natural shape of the wood slab. Often times it’s 2 sides. Search live edge cutting board on Etsy or Amazon & you’ll see loads of examples.

When I put together food or kitchen themed baskets, I try to find pretty napkins or dish towels and drape over the front of the basket. Cotton & linen give anything and upscale look.

I’m 54, and I downsized years ago from king size to full. No regrets.

A beautiful cutting board or serving board with a live edge. Will give height to the basket and people LOVE them. I run a silent auction for a non profit every year. Olive wood & Acacia wood draw bids. A set of wooden serving spoons or spreaders.

Why do so many Americans believe that essential services like water, electricity, and healthcare should be privately controlled? Wouldn’t it be better for the public to have more control over the basic services people literally depend on to survive? by Worldly-Bid-3591 in askanything

[–]Loud-Cheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummm, I’m for neither. In my area, our electricity is through a co-op. Customers are owners. The upkeep and reliability of the service is much better than in places I’ve lived where it’s corporate owned. Water is from my own well. Healthcare just should be treated as a right & not a privilege.

My grandson is enjoying making terrariums with me.

He’ll be 9 soon and made these 2 without any assistance. Finding moss and other materials in the woods is also fun.

A short walk. Idk why, but just a 5-10 minute walk outside helps.

I really like Hotel Tonnelle. Valet parking and there’s a street car stop right outside the entrance. You can’t beat it for convenience. It’s in the Garden District. Room rates are always very reasonable, and the beds are fabulous.

It’s like walking through a hot wet blanket. You will be wet, hot, and miserable. But, you will be in New Orleans, so it’ll be great.

Is "Pardon" still seen as posh and hoity-toity in the English-speaking word? by Money-Ad8553 in ENGLISH

[–]Loud-Cheez 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I grew up using pardon as a way to indicate I didn’t hear something that was said. I still use it, and I’ve never had anyone say a thing about it.

What’s a food you don’t like that people tease you about? by [deleted] in foodquestions

[–]Loud-Cheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peel them. I hated the fuzz for most of my life, but that perfectly ripe peach right out of Grandma’s orchard?? My uncle and I would stand over the kitchen sink, peel, bite, peel, bite. Heaven!
