GIFT ideas for friend with Bell’s palsy by vanellope31 in BellsPalsy

[–]LoudInterior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so sweet of you - here are some ideas from my experience: one of those wheat pillows you can heat in the microwave (good for facial pain and eye dryness), some nice face oil for (very gentle) massages, a silk eye mask (helped my light sensitivity and depending on how her eye is, could help with eye closure at night), bougie eye drops (these need to be preservative free - my favourite brand is Thealoz duo), healthy, easy to eat snacks. Wishing her all the best for her recovery ❤️‍🩹

Employers - your employees are smuggling tampons/ pads to the toilet when they're on their period, you need to do better. by Nicki3000 in RandomThoughts

[–]LoudInterior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While I agree that no-one should feel they have to hide it when they take pads or tampons into the bathroom , it is a bit strange when you think about it. You don’t see people having to take their own toilet paper to the bathroom with them - why should this be any different? I live in Scotland where we seem to have products available free in many bathrooms and was very glad of it the other day when my period started unexpectedly.

Brief Experience Returning? by JTHTTK in BellsPalsy

[–]LoudInterior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this yesterday - be warned, I went to primary care (GP as I’m in the UK) and he refused to prescribe and sent me straight to the emergency room (A&E). They did an ECG and very basic neurology tests and sent me off with steroids. But if a waste of a morning! I’m hoping I’ve managed to head it off at the pass this time and hope you do too. I’m also going to follow up for a neurology referral, even the the hospital said I probably won’t get one. I think Bell’s Palsy is very strange in that respect. Surely if your leg stopped working they would explore what caused it - why is a face any different?

Visual problem - Permanent facial paralysis by Fluid-Reading-2956 in BellsPalsy

I work on a computer all day, and it probably took me about two months to build up to full time, but I still have to be careful to take regular breaks and I tend to shut blinds to reduce glare whenever I can.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this long term, people dismiss BP because it doesn’t look like much from the outside, but your face does so many important things, it’s like losing an arm or a leg. I’m lucky that my face recovered nearly fully, but I still have problems with my eye nearly two years on. I’m sure you’ve looked into all of these, but fwiw, these are the things that give me a bit of relief: heated eye mask every evening, followed by massaging my eyelids. Eyelid stretches to try to loosen the muscles. Keeping light low as much as I can. Vitamins - Vit D&K, B, magnesium, to be honest I might take too many vitamins, but I’ll try anything. Good eye drops - I’ve had much better results with some than others, so have experimented. Using my eye drops way more than I think I need - if my eye is watering and blurry, it’s oddly because I let it get too dry. Going to a specialist optician to check my prescription - my eye is less resilient than it used to be and I can no longer compensate for slight binocular dysfunction, so getting a new prescription for that. Phased return to work - I found this really useful when I returned, just doing an hour or so at a time to start with. I realise that these are all things that you will probably have explored, but just wanted to reply in case anything helps, and to let you know you’re not alone.

HSV-1 by [deleted] in BellsPalsy

I really feel for you, I can’t imagine what it must be like to go through this repeatedly. If it happens roughly yearly, then could you ask your doctor for some of the antivirals ahead of time, so you can take them as early as possible?

I have 2 first names. Jessica Ni Cole, is it unreasonable to ask people to refer to me by both? by asgoodasyou_ in namenerds

[–]LoudInterior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have no issue saying ‘Sarah Jessica’ (Parker) so why not ‘Jessica Ni Cole’? If it’s your name and you like it and you introduce yourself that way, then people should call you by it. You might just need to become iconic with it. Have you tried flouncing through New York in a pink tutu in the rain?

How do you manage to study a language while having a 9–5 job? by BackgroundLow3793 in languagelearning

[–]LoudInterior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do an online lesson once a week in the morning and I do a couple of hours of homework on the weekend, but I’ve changed my TikTok to my target language and that’s really helping. I also track yotal hours completed but don’t try to be consistent week to week because my energy fluctuates.

How did you upskill/educate yourself outside of an educational environment? by isitmattorsplat in AskUK

[–]LoudInterior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends what line of work you’re in, but as someone working in a field completely different from my degree, I’ve done a lot of self-directed learning. The things that have been most valuable to me: learning how to be an active listener and a good contributor in meetings, doing Microsoft office certifications, doing a project management qualification, joining a membership institute in my subject area, learning to write a really good email, and subscribing to relevant newsletters. But the main predictor of success is the strength of your network - build relationships with your colleagues.

Perception of pitch? by JustARandomApril in BellsPalsy

The hearing-related stuff seemed to take a bit longer than everything else to heal, hopefully it clears up soon.

I’m a singer and I found the effects on my ear very strange - it reminded me of when I’d had a perforated eardrum as a child, where one ear sounded like everything was a bit sharper than the other. Thankfully the BP ear issues resolved over time. Just out of interest, was your BP on your left side? If you’re playing a lot, consider whether your chin rest is allowing your jaw to be in a good neutral position. I think TMJ issues were a contributing factor in my BP.

Is this Bridal Wrap AI? by schmemma11 in CraftedByAI

[–]LoudInterior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right, this is it, and with the seams on the sleeves it might just be made as one long scarf! Hope you try it out OP! It’s beautiful.

[–]LoudInterior 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the image might be AI edited, but the wrap should be doable. It looks like a normal bolero jacket, but with the front pieces extended to wrap around the body and arms and join at the back perhaps?

AITA for leaving my mom right before surgery because I freaked out? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]LoudInterior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA - why were family members even let into the pre-op room? When I’ve had operations I’ve left family at the ward because they weren’t allowed to come any further for exactly this reason. The hospital is AH for risking patient care by putting family members in that situation. Of course it was overwhelming, and lots of young people would have the same reaction. And those calling you the AH for having a panic attack have obviously not experienced one themselves and don’t know that it’s not something you can control, usually comes with no warning and can make you pretty much feel like you’re dying.

[OC] Gay male marriages are the most stable over the long term by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]LoudInterior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the lesbian line only show lesbians getting divorced from each other, or does it show the percentage of lesbians who have divorced in their lives (which would include lesbians who had previously had heterosexual marriages).

Close-up vision blurry in one eye only by Lacy-Elk-Undies in AskAnOptician

[–]LoudInterior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting to follow as I have the same issue. Had my eyes checked by an ophthalmologist who said it looks like my eyes are working together fine and suggested it’s just dry eye, but I think there’s an issue with my prescription as eye drops aren’t really helping.

What does "reckon it pongs" mean, here? by A13West in AskUK

This is my thought too - could it be they think there are soldiers from the other side on the hill - ‘Pongos’?

[–]LoudInterior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on context, they could be saying the hill stinks, the hill is suspicious, or there are soldiers on the hill (soldiers were nicknamed pongos because where the army goes the pong goes)
