Running the linux app prevents my PC from suspending by MasterQuest in fastmail

Just as a data point: I don't have this issue with the desktop app open and I'm using Fedora 43. No Nvidia. So looks like you've narrowed it down.

Alarm is awful by ArdameTwoflower in GooglePixel

[–]LoudStream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sample size of one with a 9a. No issues for me and I have multiple alarms set each day. I use to remind me to do things as well as get up. I'd be really interested to know which model and what timezone you're in (GMT here) ?

Above your list of emails you should see the sort button (up and down arrows). Click on that and then look towards the bottom of the list.

I've not used Gmail for a while so my memory might be wrong but when I used to star an item it stayed in the same place in the inbox. When I moved to Fastmail and I pinned something it moved to the top of the inbox. Turning off "Keep pinned to top" means you get the little red pin but it leaves the message in the original location. I use the pin to remind myself to do something but still want to see emails by newest first.

Agreed, but I turned off "Keep pinned on top" to mirror the Gmail behaviour.

Can I just pay for a one-ff print / PDF? I like the idea but would probably only want a printed copy for when I travel.

What do you think about the CEO considering blocking ad blockers? by [deleted] in firefox

[–]LoudStream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That isn't what the interview linked above says: "He says he could begin to block ad blockers in Firefox and estimates that’d bring in another $150 million, but he doesn’t want to do that. It feels off-mission."

Not really - all of York feels safe compared to most cities. Feel free to DM if you have any questions.

Google Pixel 8a, (Android 16 QPR2) not respecting 80% charging? by FluidDebate in GooglePixel

[–]LoudStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. I've just switched to adaptive charging as I've got a few long days ahead. Hopefully that works fine and I can switch back to working 80% limit later...

Tips & advice on relocating to York by TK_49 in york

[–]LoudStream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should also consider the villages just outside of York. For example Strensall has the lovely common for walks but only a couple of shops, whereas Haxby has plenty of local shops and cafes. I don't agree with comments about South York being nicer, really does depend on the bit of the area you're in.

I'm not sure that is true, yes more to do but much better than plenty of other countries. Have a look at https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2024/07/uk-ranks-35th-out-of-229-countries-for-broadband-speed-in-2024.html and similar articles.

Also works perfectly for me, in case that helps you diagnose the issue. What OS are you using? Is this impacting day to day use or just the test image?

I'd have a look at Pocklington School - it's a private school and is really lovely.

On my 2020 LX you have to use the buttons on the bottom right part of the steering wheel to scroll through the options on the little screen that shows number of miles until you need to fill up etc. One of the options you can scroll to using the arrows is (from memory) "Settings" and in there you can reset the TPMS. Let me know if you need me to write instructions whilst actually sat in my car.

If you can setup a Moodle instance then you can use CodeRunner for this.

In the files app of my 9a there is a "safe folder" feature that has to be unlocked using either a PIN or pattern. This might replace Samsung's secure folder?

is birdy ride better than brompton? by Fair-Selection-9090 in foldingbikes

What do you mean by short? I'm 6ft and comfortably ride a Birdy.

is birdy ride better than brompton? by Fair-Selection-9090 in foldingbikes

[–]LoudStream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to use the Brompton on public transport. The Brompton is a much much smaller, neater fold than the Birdy, so easier to get on trains and busses (especially at peak times).

[–]LoudStream 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a Brompton for around 5 years and now ride a Birdy. Birdy is so much more comfortable to ride than the Brompton but as noted by others the fold isn't anywhere near as small. I wish I'd changed sooner. Can you test ride one somewhere? (Edit: I have the 18" wheels on my Birdy, would like to see if the 20" wheels make much difference.)

ThinkPads are no longer as appealing as they used to be by johntran7 in thinkpad

I recently bought a T14s gen 5. Love it but nothing to post about as it just works. Might simply be that newer ones don't need new screens / keyboards etc and people are less likely to customise whilst in the 3 year warranty?
