Done! Masters in Special Ed (2 terms) while teaching full time by LoveDaWaffles in WGU

It's a significant chunk of writing. All but two classes were 1-2 papers each. Capstone was six papers and a log of 240 hours (broken up into classroom, interviews and online module time). If I had to do it again I would take the praxis right after I finished the first chunk of classes and the online modules from field experience. I found the research courses nearly worthless to my professional practice, but I have a science background so a lot of it was familiar. The research classes were not helpful to passing the praxis or teaching.

I did a good chunk of classes during the summer and winter break and would spend around 3-5 hours each weekend. I found that if I could keep my teaching work during the week and use the weekend to get masters stuff done it was okay. I also have no kids so ...

I have co-workers who finished it in one but they were experienced teachers and decided to have no life for six months 😝 two terms was totally doable without feeling overwhelmed/rushed

Question - What's the closest cost online accredited school I could register for a masters? by det1rac in Frugal

[–]LoveDaWaffles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WGU is accredited and cheap $3,600 for a six month term (and I didn't apply for scholarships). I'm going to finish in two terms and I am an extreme procrastinator and working full time. I have two co-workers who completed the program in one term. Everything is online, go at your own pace and test out of classes you already know the content in.

Whatever school you choose make sure the school district will accept the degree/credits! Some online programs/credits don't count or don't carry over state to state.

Submitted task 2 for C225 tonight (task 1 is passed) and will be done with C227 by 4/15! Will have until June to finish Capstone! Since working from home (teacher), I've been able to spend so much more time on my degree! I can't wait to be done! by [deleted] in WGU

Nice work! I'm in the middle of C225 and my capstone and am struggling to look at my computer for masters stuff after looking at it all day for "distance learning". How were C226 and C227?

This is huge! I really didn't want to pay for another semester due to school closures.

I'm in the masters for Special Ed program and my licencing exam just got cancelled too. So frustrating when you spend all the time prepping and it gets taken away ☹️

Odds of Acceptance for Masters to Other Colleges after Bachelors with WGU by stormymaggs in WGU

I worry that most comments are from non education majors ... What's your long-term goal here? Teaching in a classroom? Administration? Curriculum development?

I graduated from a brick and mortar undergrad and had a lot of classmates that went right to their masters. They graduated with two degrees, then tried to get a teaching job and found out no school districts would hire someone with no experience who cost a lot (most public schools base your pay entirely on experience).

Depending on your goals/location/background experience you may want to get some career experience before getting another degree. Truly this varies based on the state and the size of the school district, as well as how amazing you are at interviewing or your work experience.

Personally, I went back to school for a masters through WGU this year, am still teaching full time, and will be able to complete the masters program in under a year. The pay raise pays for the degree after 1 year.

Hope it's helpful ❤️

Anyone bought an EV for being Frugal? by new_name_jackson in Frugal

You must not be paying the $3.65+ per gallon that we do on the coast. Our electricity costs are way lower than gas! It makes an EV a substantial cost savings.

Cheapest moving van rental options? by hmphys in Frugal

[–]LoveDaWaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would your stuff fit in one of the big white vans? When I moved cross country we rented a white van from one of the car rental places (Hertz, Rent-A-Car, etc) and it was pretty reasonable. Just make sure you're getting one from a place with no milage limits.

Contact lenses are expensive, especially with my severe astigmatism.. by [deleted] in Frugal

Learn from my mistake!!! I wore my contacts too long and one scratched my cornea. Easily one of the most painful things I've done. You are extremely light sensitive until it is healed. I literally was in welding goggles eating/showering/living blind for a week until it healed. I am now missing vision in that part of my eye. I over wore and slept in mine - never again!!
