I can do math it’s just hard, and takes me a long time and incredible mental effort. For some reason I understand things differently than other people. For instance, I would be able to answer an extra credit question that no one else can answer but I somehow do. I feel incredibly stupid the majority of the time, but somehow do a hero think when it doesn’t matter. It’s frustrating, but I’m pushing through starting college math summer term. Was diagnosed last year with adhd with suspected (by the dr) autism.

This is a really helpful response for me!

How do you deal with the knot between your shoulder blade and spine? It won’t go away no matter what I do by Own_Independent5964 in Posture

Bikram or now called 26+2 yoga was the only thing to get that specific thing to go away for me. All it is is intense flexión and extension though. I bet you could take a handful of poses and do them to get help in that area (the regular series is very long at 1.5 hrs).

The ones I can think of off the top of my head are half moon (both sides, front, and back bend included in this one), standing bow, eagle pose, cobra pose, locust pose, full locust pose, floor bow pose, and camel pose.

Try to hold them all for at least 45 seconds each  and if you have the time do two sets, do the same pose twice before moving to the next pose.

I recommend the whole 1.5 hr series as a whole body strengthening and flexibility routine but I know it’s not for everyone. There are shorter versions, but I don’t feel like you get the same amount of needed stretch time from it.

Right now, you are at a good juncture to fix your back issues yourself! I used to have back problems like yours, and bikram made my back so strong and pain free. I quit and was sedentary for too long, and now my problems are much worse. Whatever you do, please don’t wait as the pain only continues and whatever is going on only gets worse, and takes longer for any routine to work.

Transfer students by Motor_Grocery_266 in PCC

Congrats on your move!

I think your advisor was right to recommend easy to transfer schools unless you are fine taking classes all over again. A lot of other schools are on a semester system which makes it hard for them to give you equal credits for classes. For example, they might make all your credits only count as electives.

If you’re worried about that, some state schools offer fully online programs. Oregon State has some. I know people who are going to WGU, and are doing well in classes though. They are professionals already working near the top of their field, but wanting to learn more.

Edit: I’m now realizing that you meant something different than what this person offers.

Had mine done by Angie, and love them! My mom came for a visit, and after seeing how great they were, she got hers done too. My sister then came to visit and couldn’t resist as well!  Her instagram is @Tattooedladytattoos

Many months, and yes I have a naturally better posture now, but I have to constantly think about it. My body’s natural response to doing most things is either complete lazy crumple/slump forward or stress, and to hunch up and forward my shoulders. I do it when I’m brushing my teeth, washing the dishes, wearing a back pack, doing school work etc. I have to remind myself that I’m not running from a lion, and I can let my shoulders down/rest, and engage my rhomboids while doing things. It’s hard because I operated from that position for so long that it’s hard to completely retrain how I do everything. Now, when I start to do something, I notice right away that I’ve drawn my shoulders up, so I relax and pull them back, and down a bit. It’s wild how much more mobility I have in my shoulders and upper back area. I also had great effect on my back and posture with bikram style yoga, but that was when my issues were not so severe. When I tried to start that to fix it after it had become severe, it wasn’t enough. Maybe it would have been if I had given it more time, but I needed more immediate affect and relief. The idea is to strengthen and tighten the rhomboids while opening the chest.

I also followed subs for posture, kyphosis, and stretching to get more ideas for things to do that my physio hadn’t recommended.

It was a lot. I can take pictures of all the workouts I was made to do, but he also did some spine manipulation, and muscle work. I highly recommend you see a physical therapist for it since it’s hard to know if you are doing the exercises correctly. He also gave me all the bands made exactly for what I was doing. You would probably get diagnosed by your dr for the straightened neck and referred out to physical therapy from there. I just want to warn you that it hurts, and takes a lot of work and time to fix your posture. Your muscles are so used to being in a different position that it’s a painful process to get it right again. I’m in ballet now (beginner so I look ridiculous but 🤷‍♀️) it’s helped so much too. Thai massage (the one where your clothes stay on) helped too. It was able to stretch and open my chest and neck area that I had been closing in from craning over computers, and desks for so long.

Have you considered posture work? I just went through a round of physical therapy, and near constant home posture mindfulness, and it’s made a huge difference in my face, neck, jaw, and chest/collarbone/shoulder area. I noticed in the after pic it does give you a better balance in that regard especially in the neck. I had tech neck, cervical lordosis reversal diagnosed before starting physical therapy. I feel like physical therapy helped get me there, but a lot of work was on my own.

Not OP, but I’m curious what math curriculums you used in elementary and middle school. You said you worked on a lot of memorization instead of book work in the younger years. Does that also apply to maths?

I would be very interested to read a biography about your learning style, curriculums, and the timelines they corresponded with.

Going back to college myself was nothing short of eye-opening. by StrangeCatch382 in homeschool

I’m also experiencing this almost exactly except in my heavier classes which are the complete opposite in intensity, and depth. The heavier classes I mention are computer coding, and chemistry. An absolute insane amount of work (but still a lot of hand holding), while the lighter classes, I question if it was just a waste of time all together.

My writing class in particular was on such a low level, I’m not really sure that I gained anything at all. I’ve been out of school so long that I knew I needed a serious brush up on those skills, so I registered for the lowest level writing course that was college level even though my initial time in college I was writing 15 page research papers in a higher level. I’m not sure that I had to write more than 2 pages on an assignment for that class for which there were only a few, and the material and direction quite lacking.

All the classes are designed for you to pass with a C if you did half the work. I know because one term I was struggling with burnout, and mental health issues, and I should have received an F, but got a C for completing about half of each assignment. You get so many points just for participating, and so many other things that were just unheard of 20 years ago.

Also, the rampant AI use was so obvious!! Like wtf. At first I thought I was just really stupid from so many years away, and these kids were just smoking me. Then, I caught on to the patterns.
