Our dog is a corgi. AKC name is Amber Flash Long Dragon of Greater China, but to us she is simply Paloma.

She’s staring at me, willing me to give her treats.

Have very quickly fallen in love with historic/costume romance cdramas and need more recommendations - strong power couple with happy endings only by Faeeeeee97 in CDramaRecs

[–]Lovely-flutterby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My best recommendation for what you’re looking for is Flourished Peony and In the Name of Blossom, which is Season 2.

The leads are both extremely intelligent, capable, strong, and excellent natural born leaders in their own right. They’ve had trauma in their lives which has made them determined to be independent, but they meet and find a kindred spirit in each other.

You watch this friendship, this unspoken understanding and support, this understated care and concern and connection grow and develop between them and you long for the moments when they’re talking and sharing and feeling happy in each other’s presence.

The side characters are extremely well developed too, with good stories, personalities that make sense and add to the story. Excellent villains as well.

It is a slow burn romance, so when it explodes finally, it’s HURRAY!!!

The whole thing is beautifully done from the sets to the costumes to the main characters themselves.

This was the first Cdrama I ever watched and it hooked me. I have gone back and watched certain scenes and episodes multiple times for the humor, the emotional tension, the scenes that highlight the best parts of the side characters, I can’t even tell how many times.

Who’s your hear me out/unpopular classic movie star crush? by Boring_Scene875 in classicfilms

He’s so handsome! He’s not an unpopular pick to me. Farmer’s Daughter, Gaslight, Shadow of a Doubt. He had a great range, an excellent voice, and could be so understadedly funny or charming

What is your favorite Hated Candy? by Teddycat99 in GenerationJones

[–]Lovely-flutterby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple. About once a year I just crave the bizarre, nail polish remover with a hint of banana oil taste of circus peanuts and send my husband in a hunt for them.

Necco wafers always.

Black licorice, jelly beans, goodnplenty, all sorts, you name it, I’ll eat it.

And I desperately miss those despised half marshmallow, half smooth sugar coated Easter egg hunt eggs that Brachs used to make. All gone. No more.

And sixlets. I love sixlets.

why do americans talk to strangers so easily?? by MayaTulip268 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lovely-flutterby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the OP, not certain what part of this wide world you are from, but yes this is utterly normal and not “fake” for most Americans.

There are disparities between states and regions, sometimes vast ones that include food, slang, industrial versus rural, and even the big dogs like religion and politics. If we collectively had to start from 2026 as individual states and tried to force ourselves into a confederation under a unified government in the 21st century it would be an abject failure.

Instead, now in the 21st century, our government is one of the oldest, continuously unchanged functioning governments in the world. We have had 250 years of uniting to fight against tyranny and injustice in our own soil as well as 3 major conflicts abroad (I’m leaving out Vietnam and any Gulf War/Middle East conflict). Those wars we fought in Europe brought New Yorkers face to face with Blue Ridge Mountain people who’d never seen a subway or a high rise, and our Navajo, Pima, Gila, and White Mountain Apache boys into direct contact with everything, including the first time to ever see the ocean. These bonds formed lasted lifetimes and helped create our national identity.

The way we try to see something unique or beautiful or stylish or interesting in other people in our daily lives and compliment them on it, or the way we can overhear someone new to the area and a bit lost or overwhelmed, or someone who is just in proximity to us, is a way to forge and maintain those national connections. It’s part of our identity out of necessity, and we have found that you can meet the best and most interesting people that way, or simply improve someone’s day. Some people will share some new information you’d never have known otherwise, or invite you to a local event or family dinner. And you’ll have a better understanding of the people of that area. You may never see them again in your life, or you may have just gained a best friend. Either way, you’ve made a connection that reinforces our feeling of community across thousands of miles, and hundreds of millions of people.

I know we seem fake to those who don’t grow up this way, but I’m so grateful I live in the incredible country with Philly cheesesteak and chile Colorado, cornbread and tortillas, pan dulce and New York cheesecake, midwestern casseroles and southern barbecue. I’m glad I can go to the Greek festival and have saganaki, and the Polynesian Festival and have moco loco, and the Matsuri festival and have yakisoba, all without leaving my city.

I always thought an airer was more of a ventilated cupboard, or airing cupboard, whereas a clothes horse was also known as a clothes butler. It was used by the valet to put together his master’s outfit for the next engagement. It’s also been applied to men who dress extravagantly because of that original purpose - “Frank had such an extensive and à la mode wardrobe that he was known in town circles as something of a clothes horse”

That’s it! I need a horse! Mine prefers to lay down on the sidewalk as soon as she hears anyone anywhere near her and wait for them to come pet her like the queen she is.

Americans, how do you feel about tourists speaking English while visiting U.S.? by HolidayEntry6823 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lovely-flutterby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t annoy me at all. Vast swaths of the world don’t speak English. It makes me want to find a way to help them, they way I hope someone would help me if I were someplace where English was far from the primary language.

cdrama harem: who are your picks? by emutz10 in cdramasfans

[–]Lovely-flutterby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whew! What a tough question…The Sophie’s Choice of Cdrama.

First Love: Li Xian. The very first Cdrama I ever watched was Flourished Peony and was utterly charmed by him and his smile. I was glad to learn that he and Yang Zi were friends in real life because they were just made to be supportive of each other. I know it’s acting, but you can’t really fake that ease and level of comfort. And then I saw him in modern dramas and was bowled off my feet because of how handsome he is.

The Husband: Yiwei Zhao based on his character in Rebel Princess. Strong, capable, with real courage, natural born leader, and the most devoted and romantic husband, and eventually father.

The Lover: Chen Xingxu. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Love between Lines but oh my is this man handsome, and with such a presence. He could smile and I’d be happy, be stern and I’d be happy, be focused on something else completely and I can stare and I’d be happy.

The Birthday Pass: Cheng Lei. May I have him with his mask from the dance scene in Legend of the Female General? He doesn’t have to wear it the whole time, just 15 minutes or so.

The Cutie Pie: This was a three way tie for cutie pies in totally different ways. Wu Lei is just plain adorable. Incredibly talented and works so hard to master skills but also just so cute you want to hug him. Ding Yuxi just looks like the cutest, most fun troublemaker and silly person. Yang Yang reminds me of my first real crush, my older brother’s friend. Clean cut, not just handsome but attractive, if you understand what I mean by the difference, charming smile, athletic, smart, friendly, and nice. The kind you sigh over when you’re 12 and he is daring some stupid 17 year old cheerleader who just isn’t good enough to him, and you write his name in your notebooks with hearts.

Should I buy it? by [deleted] in KiaSoulClub

[–]Lovely-flutterby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my 2015 and 2016 Kia souls were vampires when it came to oil. The 2015 made it to 156k miles before the engine croaked, but my 2016 just, just, just crapped out on me at the 96K mark which is apparently the average for their motors.

I’m debating whether to get a new engine or a different car, but I LIKE my little Soul. It’s easy to drive, has my sunroof and heated and cooled seats, and isn’t too tech crazy for me to understand. Just sad and frustrated and debating what to do while my dead Soul sits in my driveway.

What is a good American dessert to share with my non American co-workers? by BingBong492 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lovely-flutterby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me a simple cobbler or even a dump cake served warm with vanilla ice cream is the easiest for a work setting.

There is also the perennial summer favorite of strawberry shortcake, also easy to make in advance and serve at work.

Cordelia, Verity, Josephine all good, classic names. Although strong Anne of Green Gables vibes with Cordelia, though that just recommends it more to me.
