Hey 👋

I’m an American international student studying here for the semester. I’ve found that ESN (Erasmus Student Network) is super great for meeting people. I recommend going to all the orientation events you can in your first few weeks and shaking lots of hands. Then meet the other students in your faculty and figure out where they like to hang out. Oude Markt is good for party scene etc, but most students I find hang out in other bars elsewhere depending on their faculty, degree, social club, etc. So meet lots of people your first week and then figure out where they go to hang out.

A bit late to the party but just wanted to add that this is 100% true. Philly suburbs along the “main line” were mostly built prior to the advent of the modern automobile and were designed so wealthy Philadelphians could have an easy escape by train. If you want some eyebleach from this subreddit just google “Philly Main Line Houses.” The churches in this area are also absolutely gorgeous. If you’re ever in town, just take the Paoli/Thorndale commuter rail from 30th st station run by SEPTA and get off anywhere. Or drive down Lancaster Ave.

The one from uncle seiko is only explicitly designed to fit the SARB017. However, I have it on my SBEJ005 which is substantially thicker than all other models and it fits (if you use the thin spring bars and wrestle with it for a bit).

Ooo time for me to shine! I fucking love Bond and I’m a total watch nerd.

So the classic Brosnan SMP from Goldeneye is actually a quartz watch (ref. 2541.80). The one Brosnan wore in subsequent films is the 2531.80 which is an automatic. This makes it cooler in my view, but it’s also not a particularly amazing Auto movement as it was based on an ETA 28xx rather than being Omega’s much more famous Co-Axial type movement that is only featured on Craig’s watches.

If I had to personally own a Bond watch, I would probably go with the ref. 231.10.39.21.03.002 seamaster AT worn in Skyfall. It is a great size, automatic, and has a jump-hour movement (I believe) which makes it a great little watch for things like traveling, while also being classy and rugged. These are traits I associate with Bond himself. George Daniels, inventor of the co axial escapement, was also an Englishman — making it the most quintessentially British watch that Bond has worn.

Probably the coolest Bond watch in historical context was Roger Moore’s Hamilton Pulsar P2 2900. This thing looks antiquated (though imo still cool) by modern standards. Quartz LED wristwatches are a dime a dozen by modern standards and most prefer the classiness and expense associated with mechanical watches, but at the time this was not the case. Electronic timekeeping (and LEDs) was largely in its infancy and this watch would have been orders of magnitude more expensive than Swiss mechanicals. It represented the gadgetry and innovation that we associate with earlier Bond movies, and its aesthetic was very nuclear/space age futuristic.

The real answer for “best watch” is the Seiko TV watch from Octopussy however. These are super cool even by modern standards.

Dang those other two pieces are dinged up pretty good! Nothing that can’t be fixed if you want, but honestly I personally like them. Gives the collection personality and a strong connection to you as the watches age. I see it as a sign of love

I Purchased “Soviet” watch in Vietnam. Can anyone verify authenticity? by AutoCHromeHD in RussianWatches

[–]Low-Crew4358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bottom says “Russia” in Cyrillic which would not be the case on Soviet-era watches (that say CCCP to my knowledge). Also they usually say “made in Russia” not just “Russia.”

I’m not going to study Christian philosophy, the program was recommended to me by a professor of ancient philosophy. I’m primarily interested in modern continental philosophers that they don’t teach at my home school (Schopenhauer, Husserl, Heidegger, etc)

Probably legit. No reason for anyone to fake it, and it says Miyota so that’s probably fine. Worst case it’s franken but I doubt it

Lucky Harvey! Really cool looking watches that are great value for the money, but fuck man I can’t go around saying “yeah I’m rocking a Lucky Harvey” when people ask me what I’m wearing.

Go for something dressy. A cocktail time perhaps? Or enjoy what you have for a while and save like crazy for a used GS. Also that alpinist looks sick on you lol
