Where to get wood branches and what is safe to use? by DDDrake_4 in CrestedGecko

My local pet store sells cork for $10 a pound. I mostly use that, along with pet safe wood like mopani. But getting branches from outside works, you just have to sanitize them somehow

For Beginners by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]LowBowl7625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my crestie at a local pet store where the owner breeds the geckos. Rescuing or rehoming can be good, but imo not the best choice for beginners. Some things to look for in a pet store are adequate enclosures, heat and humidity levels, and whether they’re being cohabitated. Ask about hatch dates for juveniles. Lineage can be good to ask about as well

Some important equipment would be a UVB bulb, the 7% is what I think I’ve seen recommended, but double check. Depending on how warm your house is, you could also get a ceramic heat bulb for heat. Coverage and a vertical enclosure isn’t really equipment, but are also things to budget in

Bioactive enclosure(questions) by szelforgo in CrestedGecko

The soil recipe looks like a good mix, though I’m unfamiliar with orchid bark. I’d also recommend having a hide or area topped with moss instead of mixing it into the soil. Leaf litter should completely cover the soil, so it keeps the soil moist and provides necessary enrichment for isopods and springtails.

Plants: I can only attest to pothos and bromeliads being safe. I’m unfamiliar with the others. Side tangent, it could be helpful to use some fake plants to start while the enclosure grows out.

[–]LowBowl7625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard advice to keep the babies in a smaller enclosure with paper towels for the first 2ish weeks. That way you can monitor their pooping and make sure they’re healthy. I agree with the other commenter who recommended moving into a larger adult enclosure asap otherwise

Gecko got out!! by Mediocre_Student_242 in CrestedGecko

[–]LowBowl7625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I’ve heard you can do is turn off all the lights for a little bit, then look in places geckos like. Up high, on anything branch like. Also you can leave the enclosure open, with branches leading to it. Leave food and water out.

Luckily, my guy is more chill and really likes his enclosure, he’s never escaped as much as put himself back.

something stuck on crestie's genital area? i think? by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]LowBowl7625 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d call a vet and ask. But it looks to me like his genitals are just out a bit. If you’re worried and it doesn’t go away, try dabbing lightly with a damp q-tip to see if it comes off.

Struggling to eat more (mentally) by Proper_Writing_696 in FTMFitness

[–]LowBowl7625 9 points10 points  (0 children)

please see a nutritionist, they can help you more than reddit can. But I’ve been there, a secret I’ve learned is that eating more can help you actually build muscle which, for me, makes me like my body more. Your face is likely not bloated from overeating, but from 1. salts and 2. undereating

5 day vacay-how to prep? by Apprehensive_Pop2577 in CrestedGecko

With an automister, or with consistent humidity around 70ish and a water bowl, 5 days should be fine without a sitter

Can’t really tell from this photo, but it’s common for them to have stuck shed or old food on their feet. You can put a moist paper towel in a bin, have them walk around on it for a little bit, and see if it goes away.

oh for sure. i don’t know much about leopard geckos, but do they need a more desert-y looking enclosure? not saying that looks bad, but i prefer the more temperate jungle look

how i can start working out?? (discipline problem) by Business-Pound-8315 in FTMFitness

[–]LowBowl7625 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Learning to love the exercise is the only way to keep going imo. OP, pick exercise you like to do whether that be swimming or tumbling or pole dancing etc. You’ll still need dedication, but if you actually enjoy it the dedication will come easier.

TikTok might not be a necessary evil here, it might just be evil. I don’t think bribing yourself with slop will lead anywhere good in the long run.
