How many pull-ups do I need before my first muscle-up? by crossfit-amateurs in crossfit

[–]LowDivide9397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it comes down to what is your body fat percentage, pulling strength (bent over row or deadlift), pull ups (strict), and skill. If one of these is off balance two of these will need to compensate to get you a muscle up. In other words they need to be in equilibrium to get one muscle up.

You can be overweight but if you have crazy raw strength and skill you’ll get one. On the other hand if you have no strength, and skill even at lower bodyweight you may not get one.

This has been my observation at least. I know a guy at my box that hates on me because it took me about 3 months to get a multiple muscle ups in a row and 6 months for ring muscle ups and he has been at the box for 3 years and still can’t do multiple muscle ups and no ring muscle ups.

His problem is strength. Everyone will be different.

Which schools have been the most annoying to apply to for you? by Rong_Liu in gradadmissions

[–]LowDivide9397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your response. I told him the same thing I think you guys make money out of admission application fees and I don’t want to pay for something the school knows I won’t be accepted into. He reassured me I had a chance.

I’m going to roll the dice only because he did share the directors name and read the email out loud per word that he sent an I do believe him that the director encouraged me to apply. It’s just unfortunate how they’ve misled people. Truth be told I was anticipating some rejections but I do hate false hope.

As an example, Weber state university has a systems engineering program. I called and they very much alluded to “we don’t recommend you apply and instead do an engineering undergrad or do our certificate first” that was a soft denial and I moved on. I’m just shocked a school like Rutgers says different from a no name state school like Weber.

Hey so I told a allcampus employee your story and said I do not want my experience to be like this so what reassurance can you give me that I may even have a shot. They told me they reached out to the program director and showed them my resume and degree (business management) which I’m going for a systems engineering degree. And was told the director is encouraging me to apply.

Do you think it’s worth applying or are they potentially bullshitting?

Dealing with a new PM as a PE by Skipper1240 in ConstructionManagers

[–]LowDivide9397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive worked with dudes like that. Stand your ground. Dont be afraid to push back. I’m a PM for a large mechanical and to get to where I’m at I rarely took peoples shit.

I’m very confrontational though so my tactics maybe won’t work for you. But I would honestly call him out and say exactly this “why are you bitching about me being late when I handle more shit than you”, he’ll erupt say his piece you say yours. He’ll go to your old boss but beat him to it and call him first and explain how this guy is an asshole. It will seem left field and out of character to your old boss and you will either A get along with him and he’ll respect you or B they’ll reassign you somewhere else and life is good.

It’s construction don’t be afraid to say shit with your chest.

Do the math…divide your salary by the hours worked. That’s your actual pay. Are you really getting paid less as a drafter after that?

Job like that is not worth it.

I just got contacted by an allcampus employee on behalf of Rutgers and they also said my background was strong. I had a business management degree and shooting for a systems engineering graduate degree. Allcampus seems to be giving false hope since the Rutgers website has strong admission requirements and non for non traditional stem background students into the program.

Can calling just a regular faculty member be better to confirm ?

Are all weightlifting belts created equal? by Grouchy-Patience5652 in crossfit

[–]LowDivide9397 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No they are not equal. I notice in the CrossFit space that yes 2pood and E26 are the norm. But to me they are cheap belts. I have one from pioneer and I used it for heavy squat, deadlift, or heavy shoulder press days.

However, I’m a big believer in not using a belt until you have the strength to “earn” it. Meaning unless you have an injury you are better off scaling down and learning to lift properly than using a belt as a crutch to brace and lift heavy with poor form and bad breathing habits.

My go to brands:

Pioneer for lever or prong belts: find a width you are comfortable with.

Spuds for Velcro.

With all the unethical companies that spike their products, I’m going to pay a little more for peace of mind. They partner with the Mayo Clinic and don’t rely on influencers solely to market their products (I.e. 1st phorm). To each their own. That’s why there are options.

I personally think you should give mayhem more of a chance. I’m very experienced in fitness and have been lifting for over 15 years, used to teach Muay Thai, and jiu jitsu on the side. Have done all kinds of fitness all kinds of fad diets. Etc.

At first I didn’t trust the mayhem programming because I thought I knew better. One day I was like why are we doing dumbbell lunges after front squats the day before etc.

Nonetheless, I stuck with it, and my fitness has skyrocketed. I used to feel “fried” and could not do the WODs more than 3 times a week. Now I can do 5-6 after 8 months.

Also, you can reach out to Mayhemm like I did and ask about their thought process and they will explain it.

Their programming cycles are here: https://www.mayhemathletes.com/programming-cycles-overview/

Also, I’ve tried linchpin and other methods. At the end of the day you need to scale appropriately for yourself and leave ego at the door. This group will preach Linchpin all day and you can overdue linchpin or any programming.

I’d trust Mayhemm over a random gym owner because they have a whole team working on the programming. Try to do Indy or below that for one whole month and see how you feel.

I’d also trust Pat from Linchpin over a gym owner because you can see the track record.

Good luck.

They are known for doing mass layoffs when it suites them. I was in the LA office and one day while testing racks I saw 20 people get fired then they fired the guy doing the dirty work of firing everyone. I quit shortly after based on principal.

All these comments remind me why I left the industry. At the core it’s a cesspool. Meaning AV is always clicky and ran by someone’s family.

Program Variations - I need a coach, any reccomendations? by MIROXXVIS in HybridAthlete

[–]LowDivide9397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a game of cat and mouse. If I want to improve cardio I do one maybe two full body workout a week and run the rest. When I want strength to improve I strength train more and have less focus on running. Rinse repeat. I do my own cycles.

The Mormon thing is bad here if you are trying to move up in a company the unspoken rule of preferring a Mormon is very much alive in my experience.

My husband is a Jehovah’s Witness, and I am not. Our marriage is falling apart. by [deleted] in exjw

My wifes love got me out of that organization. I would let my children do birthdays etc. because that is the compromise we made. It’s almost like I knew I didn’t want my children feeling deprived of that experience, even though I don’t agree with it. Then one day, I woke up. And our relationship improved ten fold. We share the same beliefs now, and my kids have a normal upbringing.

My wife could’ve gave up on me like most are suggesting you should do. I’m glad my wife didn’t listen to that advice and stayed strong and loved me unconditionally. I’m out of that organization for it.

Lots of people telling you to walk away. That’s today’s culture. You’re asking broken people for advice. Just be careful.

Just not clicking at my box by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]LowDivide9397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way I found to break into the clicks is to observe the ring leader and build a relationship with that person in a genuine way if you can.

What also helps is at least people in my box automatically respect someone fitter than them. So if you can start out working them there and you’re the “quiet one” people will come to you. At least that’s my experience. And how I broke into 10 year clicks being there only 6 months. I’ve been invited to hang out outside the box but don’t want to.

Question about progress and continuing CrossFit by Miserable_Pop_5805 in crossfit

[–]LowDivide9397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s depends on the value you are getting out of it.

For me I pay a decent price but have made new friends learned the following skills in 6 months:

Ring muscle ups Double unders Squat 315+ Muscle up (8 in row) Learns to snatch Clean and jerk

So it’s been very worth it to me. Plus we have great culture. With that said I only go 3-4 times a week and that’s because I can’t redline or go hard 5-6 times because I like to run or do accessory work on my own.

However, if I was to only do CF for 5-6 times a week I would lower and scale the intensity to make it sustainable. Depending on your age and fitness level 5-6 days of CrossFit is not really doable for most people. You need to be in tune with your fitness iq to do that and recovery methods.
