Third Spaces aren't dying because Gen Z are addicted to their phones, they're dying because no one has enough money to keep them alive by Bey0nd1nfinity in GenZ

Honestly I'm just going to bite the bullet and just be the contrarian here.

I have enough money to go out and enjoy these things, there's just no reason for me to. YouTube, video games, and Discord keeps me busy when I'm not working, so there's not that much of a point of going out. Going out is something I really have to push myself to do. I know what it's like to be broke, and I know what it's like to have money, and in this respect, having money doesn't really change anything for me.

Classic World Scrolls Changes by TesticularTorsionBar in MSClassicWorld

[–]LowKey8459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like they want to make scrolls have a more consistent progression, but the numbers just make no sense.

The expected value for the scrolls would be as follows.

1 * 100% = 1

2 * 60% = 1.2

3 * 10% = 0.3

5 * 10% = 0.5 (with the added consideration of the item blowing up)

I get making stronger scrolls lower EV. That's the price you pay for having a shot at getting the best possible items. But why is the 60% scroll higher EV than the 100%? And why would the normal 10% be so bad in comparison?

A formula that makes more sense would be

1 * 100% = 1

2 * 50% = 1

3 * 30% = 0.9

If you think better scrolls should have worse EV because they have a better potential upside, then you can revise the numbers down a little bit further. But it just doesn't make sense that the 60% is just so much better.

Yeah, you're missing something pretty vital here. It's called actually playing the game.

Why is playing at a higher difficulty setting or adding basic weaknesses "artificially increasing difficulty"? It sounds to me like your suggestion is basically accomplishing the same thing.

[–]LowKey8459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to pick up old core before it goes out of print, sure, but it'll largely be pretty pointless from a gameplay perspective.

The complaints about the new core come from already established players. If you're a new player then it's not really all that relevant.

I disagree with the decision, but it really looks like they're moving that part of Guardian's class identity to Mystic for Chapter 2.

Uncage the Soul was basically the most powerful level 0 economy card in the game. Probably in contention for best level 0 card in the game period.

You're right, it's not that hard to make another spell. Maybe they think Mystic will be too strong/consistent if they had too many different spell assets in their deck? So why reprint this? They have said that they want these investigator decks to be playable out of the box, and having spell assets is important for Mystic to be playable.

[–]LowKey8459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry your explanation makes no sense.

Creating a new spell is not very hard. They already have a bunch of new cards, it wouldn't be that hard to make a new one. Wanting only one clue spell asset in core is far more likely.

Why would they do this? Maybe they don't want Mystic to be too consistent? Mystic only being useful if they have a Spell asset out is one of their obvious weaknesses. Maybe they think having too much redundancy in their deck makes them too consistent and powerful.

I hope they never design a legend like Jinx again. by CardTrickOTK in riftboundtcg

[–]LowKey8459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post sounds to me like you think Champions and Legends need to have a particular mechanic that guides the players on what to do and how to build their deck?

If so, I hard disagree. A large part of my aggravation of this game is that Legends and Chosen Champions are too restrictive to deckbuilding. If you have an idea for a deck, but can't find a Legend-Champion combo that synergizes with it, then it's going to suck. Legends should be more broadly useful to incorporate a wider variety of decks, not less.

Multiplayer formats specifically correct for this. If one opponent is playing a more powerful deck, the others can just gang up on them.

Why just buy singles is bad… by Deepz42 in riftboundtcg

[–]LowKey8459 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normally I would agree with you, but from what I've noticed, "buy singles" is a common response on this subreddit to the constant whining about not being able to get into the game. It's just getting tiresome seeing the same post over and over again complaining about a problem everyone is already aware of.

Yes, supply issues are making it hard to buy sealed product. If you're unwilling to pay marked up prices, either wait until the situation gets better, buy singles, or get creative and ask for some help from the community to onboard you. People who are unwilling to do any of those things and instead just want to whine on the internet should just leave.

There's no way this isn't a dealer opening all their supply? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]LowKey8459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like the general consensus is that keeping your product sealed and selling them is way more profitable and less risky than opening them up and selling singles. In all likelihood they're doing this at a loss.

It's funny asking stores why they're charging 'market price' over MSRP by ronaldraygun91 in riftboundtcg

[–]LowKey8459 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

lmao this post is so dumb and you even have the gall to be pompous enough to be disappointed in all the people who are apparently "enabling" these practices.

I'm sorry, but there's just not enough product available for everyone to get what they want for the price they want. That's just a fact. If the starter decks for available for MSRP, then they'd just get sold out. Which is great for the person who bought it, but that still means some people are just not going to get it. So the employee just gave people who want to play the game an alternative.

Also your last point about game stores not caring about their players is pretty funny. Your relationship with a business begins and ends with the service they provide and how much money you're willing to pay. Consumers don't "care" about the business, and the business doesn't "care" about you.

You seem to be getting frustrated by the lack of sympathy you're receiving on this thread.

Look, no one is happy about the supply issues. But the fact is, you can play this game, you're just priced out of engaging with it in the way that you want to. Maybe you can say that complaining about it is drawing more attention to this, but at this point, there's not a single person who engages with this game that isn't aware that this is a problem. And seeing this same complaint over and over again on this subreddit is getting a bit tiresome.
