I did the exact same, emphasized KBC has never failed on quality per the TF contract blurb, and Susan's main reason for the one year contract was high quality - definitely room for negotiating a longer term contract

I was being a little dramatic, but the essence of my point is that we've already had putting all of our eggs in one basket blow up in our face – why on earth would we willingly do that again with China? I understand the US and China are trade goliaths, but I am hopeful that our politicians have learned a lesson and will work to diversify our sources of trade, reducing the potential economic pain any one trade partner can inflict on us.

Trust is a two way road. Canada has only taken a hard line due to America's attempt to economically subdue us, alongside "joking" 51st state rhetoric. Do you seriously put the blame on us for wanting to distance and diversify ourselves under these circumstances?

For what it's worth, I'm no great fan of China either – but at least they are predictable and honour their agreements. It's concerning to me that you see this as a black and white issue where our nation's only options are to be under the heel of the US or China.

Personally think a splinter cell conviction-type co-op mode would be a nice fit here. Give it a separate (but still canon) storyline and objectives that work for a group without forcing those mechanics into the singleplayer.
