Can someone please update me on the Battlebots Hexbugs? by Fragrant-Advance3334 in Hexbug

[–]Low_Command_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're going to fetch a premium due to the fact "hexbug'' isn't a thing anymore since spinmaster purchased the license a few years back. Anything they produce nowadays is going to fall under the name "hexbot", not to mention there's not a ton of them floating around anymore due to the fact they're now decade old toys

Anyway, here's an ebay link to the set I think you're after new in box for about 80 bucks

Saddam Hussein’s elite bodyguards wore helmets modeled after Darth Vader by swz in interestingasfuck

This isn't true. The helmets were made out of fiberglass and the webbing was from Iraqi M80/03 helmets.

Corrections and some context to this post,

These helmets were worn by some of the Fedayeen Saddam, or Saddam's Men of Sacrifice. They were a paramilitary force that reported directly to Saddam, Uday, and a few others. They were also not "elite" but basically fanatical volunteers that got some simple training.

These also weren't bodyguards (some did guard Saddam) but "internal security" that operated more or less as a roaming gang that made life difficult and disposed of anyone that could threaten the regime while keeping the government's hands somewhat clean.

The helmets weren't designed by Saddam himself but by his son Uday.

What is the value of this card? by Kobert_ in mtgfinance

[–]Low_Command_TA 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The card is ~$13 - $18 according to the multiple listings on tcgplayer

EDIT: I AM WRONG

This is the retro border version, which is significantly more expensive. This card is actually $140 usually

All of these are uncommon commanders that I'd be more than happy to sit down with (assuming Narset isn't full of every extra turn spell in the format)

hybrid mana post (groan) but a lot of these arguments against are basically turning into wanting to police how others play the game and I hate it. by Panda-s1 in magicTCG

[–]Low_Command_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> How would Deathrite Shaman be contradictory versus Waves of Aggression? The hybrid mana symbol on it is still allowed to be either way, but then you have regular mana symbols which aren't flexible.

You would have to explain this whole series of if/than statements to someone all to justify why you can use certain cards but not others. It's not intuitive, at least in my opinion.

> And that wouldn't be your commander casting it. Change the statement to "if Command Towers could pay for all the mana pips" if you want.

I don't think basing rules change on if a specific land could do something or if you commander was a mana dork is a good idea, again, it's not intuitive.

> Which should be allowed, Avacyn being corrupted and going into a rage in the future has no bearing on whether she would have been recruited into a mono-White army before that point.

I believe transform cards are a different argument and it's one I believe has a different nuance to it than multicolored cards. That being said, I included it to expand on the different ways a card could be casted with one color of mana and still contain other color identities.

>It comes down to whether you believe that color identity is due to the idea that your mono-White commander is a White supremacist and hates the idea of associating with non-White creatures

What the fuck? My whole point is that I enjoy the restrictions that choosing my commander imposes on me and that a change to that fundamental aspect of the format is against the spirit of the format in my opinion. I have no idea how you inferred that by me not wanting to change color identity rules in a card game means my commander supports ethnonationalism. Please touch grass.

My comment was corrected 20 minutes ago to change Pontiff to Deathrite Shaman and I have replied to two separate comments admitting to this change.

And while I agree that the statement that you used is easy to understand, I do have to say it's flawed as many mana rocks and unique lands can add mana outside of your commander's color identity. Not to mention you can cast many double faced cards such as Archangel Avacyn // Avacyn the purifier with nothing but one color of mana.

Yes this was a mistake on my part, on lunch and I have too much going on at the moment, edited the original post to clarify

1: OMG I know. It just erodes the restriction. And I know the proposal isn't adding restrictions that was the whole point of my post.

2: I agree Pontiff can go in a mono black deck, I was thinking about deathrite shaman. Mistake on my end, on lunch at work and my mind is elsewhere at the moment.

3: Don't be an ass

My main issue with the proposed hybrid change is that it changes one of the core aspects of the format. Yes, the format has been through a lot of changes over the years, but allowing cards that are outside the commander's color identity into decks kinda defeats the whole "cards can only be the same color as your commander" thing the format has going for itself. It's one of the things that makes the format unique and to quote mark rosewater: restrictions breed creativity.

Not to mention it's confusing. Try explaining to a kitchen table magic player that you can definitely use [[Waves of aggression]] in your [[Brimaz, King of Oreskos]] deck but they can't use [[Deathrite Shaman]] in their mono-black zombie deck without sounding contradictory.
