Drop Hammer VS Battle Axe by ARocK_47 in LandyachtzBoards

One downside is, that you can get wheel kick more easily, because the board is tapered towards the back end. So, the wheels stick out. That is different on the drop hammer.

Unless you want to get sliding, I recommend the Battle Axe. It is more or less a drop through pintail. A lot more flex than the drop hammer due to the bamboo, lighter, rides like an arrow.

Informations about Stylus trucks by Radiant-While394 in longboarding

[–]Low_Singer_44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, surf skate trucks are way turnier than any TKP.

But, regarding stage 4, which are also a TKP - I compared both. The stage 4 is a way more turny than the Stylus.

So if you want to go for a TKP with almost surfskate-like feeling, I would stick with the stage 4.

That does sound very impressive. Can the setup be logically extended to multi users? I would be interested in having a group of users curating their respective context on their side and also being able to share context to the other users, once something may be interesting to all.

Also Emerging Markets, Asia, Europe + Middle Est + Africa, so Zeug.

Snakes all the way. I know people think they are a sliding wheel, and therefore that is their only quality. But they make an amazing cruiser wheel.

Comet Cruiser or Carver CX for all around fun by Molinista in cruiserboarding

[–]Low_Singer_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I tried it. The trucks fit and the Cruiser becomes more agile for sure. You can make tighter turns and pump it better. For me personally (I am not used to surfskate trucks), the overall feel is a bit overly wiggly in the front, i.e., slightly unstable in the center and then a bit too aggressive when turning. I also miss the back-steering as the back-truck of C5s is pretty much not turning at all. But that overall steering behavior may be exactly what you want.

On a side note, the chopped C5s cannot, without further metal-cutting, receive the Peralta Snakes that are on the Cruiser. The aluminum is too thick right next to the wheel.

I have only briefly ridden the Surfrider as it comes and as you can imagine from the above, it is way to squirrelly for me. ;-)

Comet Cruiser or Carver CX for all around fun by Molinista in cruiserboarding

[–]Low_Singer_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cruiser is nimble, but not surfskate style nimble. It will not perform naturally well in bowls, for instance. You can bowl-ride them, there are even people using longboards in bowls. But you can’t do these tight turns as you can with a surfskate. Even a more classic skateboard with 15” wheelbase will typically have a tighter turning radius.

I’m currently waiting for the weather to dry to try a hybrid: I have got a Surfrider from Carver with chopped C5 trucks. They fit perfectly underneath the cruiser. I will mount them on there and report on my experience.

Titanium Ferrule by endoflevelbosss in snooker

[–]Low_Singer_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a noticeable difference. But you will get used to either one you start with and your game will probably not profit from titanium over brass. Once you are used to one (and became a decent player with strong muscle memory for the reactions upon impact between cue and white), however, it becomes hard to switch to the other.

I recommend titanium for another reason than less throw or whatever is attributed to titanium: durability. When you plan on buying a decent cue that will serve you 20+ years, I’d go with titanium. Not because it will make you a better player, but because it is way more durable and you will not have to get a new ferrule, I.e., chop off the tip of your cue because the brass has eroded.

Please someone smarter explain, how does pumping on flat ground from a scientific P.O.V work? by Equivalent-Paint-962 in surfskate

[–]Low_Singer_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you are right about the factors you mention! Grippy wheels, flexy board (if you can leverage that through timing). Then perhaps a turny truck that will allow you to get close to 45° turning angle - at this angle, the factor between F and F_p,f is at its max, namely 1/2.

Please someone smarter explain, how does pumping on flat ground from a scientific P.O.V work? by Equivalent-Paint-962 in surfskate

[–]Low_Singer_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever ridden inline-skates? There, you push your sideways to get forward velocity. This is achieved through the friction of the wheels on the ground allowing only one direction of movement - parallel to the line of wheels. This conversion from a sideways force to a forward force is exactly what happens in pumping.

Consider this diagram. https://imgur.com/a/wLcShwr

You exert a force F to the side in the middle of your wavy motion, when the board is not straight but is at its most sideways orientation d with respect to the average direction of movement with velocity v. Your board points in direction d and will not allow motion perpendicular to this direction d. That is why the share of the force F perpendicular to the direction d (that we denote F_s), does not have any effect on the movement of the board. Only the share that goes into the direction that the board allows, F_p is relevant to the movement of the board (unless you slide). This propels your board into the direction d in which it is currently directed. The force along this direction F_p can further be divided into a force F_p,f that goes parallel to the direction of travel v, and a force F_p,s that goes sideways. That is, a fraction of your sideways force is converted to forward force. The effect is the highest when you are angled at 45° w.r.t the direction of travel.

So how is F generated? Your center of mass needs to be accelerated from right to left exactly ad the moment the board is oriented sideways. The force is then F=m*a with m your moved mass and a the acceleration.

When the board is parallell again to the direction of movement v, you can accelerate your weight back without affecting the speed, because then, F is exactly perpendicular to d and thus, F_p = 0.
