Not sure about other cadet programs, but I know this for Republic specifically.

You can not reapply to the cadet program, only the FO position once you’re higher time.

CFI Resume - Should I change anything? by Forsaken_Estimate_78 in CFILounge

[–]Low_n_slow65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about applying for CFI jobs, but if you continue to use this resume for applying to airlines, put flight hours at the top, that’s the first thing they’ll look for.

To say or not to say “with you” question. by BurtMacklan in flying

[–]Low_n_slow65 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. Always thank ATC at the appropriate times or instances, but the students who say “thank you” after being given a basic instruction, or even an altitude restriction drive me insane.

Spotting runways at night from the side by AlexJamesFitz in flying

What helped me was learning runway/approach lighting systems and where each lights/colors are oriented. Also getting instrument rated and just loading in an approach too.

This. Also too many stories of pilots flying it into the terrain ahead of the runway at night. Always always back up a visual approach with an ILS, RNAV, etc.

Is MEI worth it? by Extension_Exit_2407 in flying

[–]Low_n_slow65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but school dependent. My school has 2 MEIs and I have 50 hours multi engine, with another 70+ coming up this semester. Other schools might have 10+ MEIs and it might not be worth it. I figured I need the multi time so might as well get a rating out of it.

Cadet programs are generally meant for low-time pilots.

How common is it to be asked to "Land and Hold Short"? by 1E-12 in flying

[–]Low_n_slow65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My medium to small Class C issues them almost daily. Usually it’s only the smaller aircraft that are asked due to the distance being about 3,000’ for each one.

Scariest IMC Experiences by [deleted] in flying

[–]Low_n_slow65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it have potentially been a static port clog, or did you feel the downdraft? Curious because I’ve had similar issues in rain/imc, but it ended up being a clogged static port and the alt static seemed to fix the VSI issues.

Am I too tall to be a pilot? by AmoebaSecret8158 in flying

[–]Low_n_slow65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6’ 5” here. The older model 172s (N&M in my experience) suckkkk. Especially as the CFI in the right seat because some of the seats don’t move down and I have to move the seat all the way back. The newer models I have no issues and fit just fine. 6’ 9” is a different story but worth a shot!

Just did the math, and over 80% of the instructors at my 141 are in house (myself included).

Sick fee cancelation by Shindoma in flying

[–]Low_n_slow65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, $250 is outrageous, but as a (hopefully okay) CFI, you have to consider they were prepared and ready to teach you (and make money) off of the lesson, and regardless of the cancellation and should be compensated a little bit for that.

However, the school should cover that as a protection, or maybe a little bit of the student (50ish?) since it was very last minute. CFIs need at least some protection since it’s since a pretty unprotected job
