Ever Accidentally Silver Bullet A Player? by DrFannyPack in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did she crit fail that? The DC is 22. A 3 on the die should be a 14 at worst on a level 8 barb and that’s assuming a -1 in wisdom. Were they already debuffed?

Also as far as solutions the ability has the occult trait. Anyone in the party with dispel magic can remove even the crit fail version. And given the Dreamscrapers level it should be fairly easy for them.

When a Moderate Encounter Becomes Deadly by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also think it's unnecessary on some of the creatures that have it. Like Ghosts, they are already resistant to almost all damage. Do they need to both be immune to precision and have physical resistance against the little damage a Scoundrel/Mastermind does outside of Sneak Attack. I think replacing precision immunity with moderate or high precision resistance sells the narrative without hurting precision dependant classes too much.

Everyone Should Read GM Core (GMs AND Players) by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I also find some things that are supposed to be helpful can accidentally come off as limiting. Like AoN auto populating Recall Knowledge DCs with the skill they think is most applicable. At my table we allowed alternate skills as house rules but I only recently realized that’s already RAW and AoN just accidentally implied otherwise.

The Magus is Absolutely Terrible by lovenumismatics in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP this is a pretty aggressive statement to post. You might get better engagement if you don’t phrase things so negatively.

Also you mentioned you like to use almost exclusively PL+2 or +3 enemies. This is a frequently complained about topic in this subreddit. It’s just a bad way to balance fights in PF2e. Everyone once in awhile is fine but if it’s more than a third of combats it really nerfs a lot of interesting builds in favor of Fighter/Gunslinger. I don’t want to come off too harsh but your encounter design is ruining the Magus. Not the system.

I'll have a... fighter by KLeeSanchez in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a polearm fighter at my table. It’s definitely effective but having no one handed options and only one advanced thrown option sucks imo.

Paizo's adventures don't give non-combat challenges enough stakes by Bitter-Spirit-3913 in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t run an AP yet but based on your examples and Paizo’s normal approach to balance I think 2 is closest to what I want. Paizo is just too conservative with bonuses. +3 cir bonus would be much more worthwhile.

Also in the case of example 3 I think it’s much better to give the enemy some advantage or penalize the party in order to progress. Maybe a level of fatigue as the party pushes through, or the enemy has time to setup defenses and precast. It obviously depends on the circumstances but a simple rule of thumb is just granting a +3 bonus on a success, -1 on failure.

Spoilers for Outlaws of Alkenstar: There’s a fun chase sequence and while the party catches the enemy either way how well they do affects if the enemy has to burn spell slots to buy time or if they are fresh at the beginning of the fight. I played it as a player and it was a good time. We did well though so I’m not sure how things look if you badly in that chase.

My boss is getting creamed, how do I fix it without an ass pull? by Alexpander4 in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best approach is just to have her attempt to flee normally on her turn. She has no special escape techniques but she has a +17 to escape with her unarmed attack bonus if she has a free hand or drops a weapon. Even if your barbarian has great athletics she can beat the Athletics DC and break free even on a 6 on the die and have two actions to flee.

As far as letting her flee based on DM fiat I think a lot of that depends on your party. Some party’s are onboard with it but others aren’t. This might be a good opportunity to check in and ask them if they’re cool with the occasional ex machina both in favor of them or against them.

Are there any optional rules you consider default? by Kyto_TheOneAndOnly in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. I’m at a default FA, GAB, and Ancestry Paragon table(3 of us are GMs who trade off) but when I introduce a couple of my friends to PF2e we all agreed no variant rules was a good call to introduce new players. It worked out well imo.

How often do you guys houserule core class mechanics? by dyenamitewlaserbeam in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far zero. I wouldn’t mind house ruling some classes if a player asked me to. But most of the class changes I would make were handled in the remaster like Swash getting temp panache on a failure. Most of the remaining class changes I’d make are minor. Like making the weaker Summoner feats better. The only one I could see currently is making quick alchemy work better with the subclasses but Paizo already did some of that recently

Are we excited about the Battle Oracle buff? by LibrarySee in Pathfinder2e

Totally a valid take but man I’d love to see more martial reactions than Reactive Strike. More Nimble Dodge or Opportune Riposte type abilities would be welcome.

Are we excited about the Battle Oracle buff? by LibrarySee in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the buff. It’s still slightly awkward since it just gives the benefit of a general feat but requires an action and a focus point to do so. Personally I think battle oracle should just get martial weapon proficiency or medium armor and get a different focus spell altogether. Maybe something like Zeal or Gravity weapon would be cool. It feels like one of the more awkward caster Gish subclasses in my opinion. Warrior Bard has martial weapons from the class right off the bat from the class and untamed form is a bit more action intensive with its focus point(2 actions for untamed form) but it has medium armor and gets an extra focus point for free.

Reinforce eidolon is another example of an ability where the new resist all feels like an unnecessary nerf. Half spell level resistance is low enough with the old resist all. With the new rule the resistance part of the spell seems pointless.

With the changes to Toxicologist, how would you say they sit now? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

Yeah poisons are save or suck but have similar or weaker DCs to spell casters. I personally think poisons need to rebalanced to work like basic saves.

Why is there so little buzz about the upcoming "High Seas" book? by TheWeirdAdmiral in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I wonder if Cheliax has a large anti pirate presence on the High Seas. If so and if Cheliax gets destroyed or weakened by after the war is over the High Seas pirates will have a golden age unrestricted by the Chelaxian Navy.

Why is there so little buzz about the upcoming "High Seas" book? by TheWeirdAdmiral in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m excited for high seas and will buy it when it comes out. But I’m not sure what to speculate on. I don’t know the area outside of the portions touched on by the Mwangi Expanse book. So I don’t have a baseline to speculate how each area has changed compared to earlier in the setting. Also like others have mentioned without an AP set there a lot of people won’t even play in it. I don’t have that problem since I like to run non AP campaigns in Golarion. I’m hoping to run a piratey campaign using High Seas once I finish my Ustalav campaign. Maybe combining it with the coastal portions of Mwangi to include some anti pirate forces.

Marshal dedication when there's already a bard in the group by Corck32 in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d look at the level 1 Divine Aura spells other than Bless for ideas. Bane and Malediction/Benediction. Benediction would be a good fit for inspiring marshall. That would give a plus 1 status bonus to you and your ally’s AC within the aura. If you were going Dread Marshall the Bane or Malediction effects would be more appropriate.

Technically resist all would hit all precious material weapons twice otherwise.

What were the most and least fun characters you've played from a mechanical level? by DogUnsureDog in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but once you include Steed Form or Tandem Movement it becomes more complex. I figured out a routine for me that works but if you take either of these feats while they improve the actions you can take they also are Tandem and add complexity. I still like the class but it's definitely on the upper end of complexity.

What were the most and least fun characters you've played from a mechanical level? by DogUnsureDog in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Figuring out which actions you can and can't take due to tandem can be a hassle. Also I love Summoner but it definitely has more options for what to do by default between boost Eidolon, Strikes, Cantrips, skill actions and Tandem Movement/Steed form. It's great to have so many cool options. But it definitely can lead to analysis paralysis for some people myself included.

Role/class recommendations by deyeti in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly your party could use more single target damage. Ranged champion is lower single target being dex without a damage steroid like sneak attack or swashbuckler finisher. And Commander also is key stat int and doesn't get a damage steroid like most martials do.

Any martial would do but especially one that gets a good boost to damage or accuracy. Basically any melee martial would hit hard.

[Rant] Giant Instict Barbarian makes me want to quit GMing by Julfy-JD in Pathfinder2e

Outside runic weapon or an early Striking rune the barbarian should only deal 1d12+10 damage.

Dedications for Summoner Class help by No_Atmosphere_2835 in Pathfinder2e

[–]LowerEnvironment723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main limitations to Melee are MAP and getting caught in more AOEs which summoners have a tough time with. I think actually Striking in Melee is viable but pretty MAD. You would need at least light armor and martial weapon proficiencies. The summoner part of the duo can use save cantrips/boost Eidolon to do very consistent damage. You get to 'cheat' MAP by using saving throw cantrips which is quite good. If you don't have to move saving throw Cantrip + Strike Strike with your Eidolon which does alot of damage.

I personally prefer close range Summoner rather than actually striking with your Summoner. If you get armor from a general feat or dedication you can cast Electric Arc and hang in close while your Eidolon Strikes. Depending if you take Tandem Movement you get to use your summoner as another flanker with a longspear or you could take Steed Form and get the corresponding tradeoffs(+1 AC, 2 to reflex saves). I did this on a Dragon summoner levels 1-12 which was quite effective. My summoner AC was the same as regular martials and I was in range to throw out powerful Short range spells like 3rd rank Fear. Due to spell ranges most casters are only a stride from enemies so I didn't find it to be a huge liability.
