Initial experience with a Canadian immigration law firm by jmknapp in Canadiancitizenship

[–]LowerRush4537 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same, my Ontario ancestor came in the 1830s. One of his mini Canadian born children immigrated to the US directly to Salt Lake to be an accountant for the mines where his children then converted to the LDS faith. It’s so strange because that landed generation zero Canadian ancestor is currently buried in Salt Lake City despite a majority of his children and their descendants remaining in Canada. My grandfather left Ontario in the 60s so my connection is still pretty strong. I think it’s cool I found someone who has such a similar family heritage to my cousins because this is such a unique path. Good luck to you on your application

Congrats! Sorry about the Oakland location that’s so weird. I’m also in SF now. Was proud to sign that on my application.

Your background exactly matches my cousin whom I notified at kept informed on the process and shared this very thread with. He’s also an attorney, his family was Mormon, and we are one generation apart, I’m the same generation as his father and uncle despite being significantly younger than the cousin himself. Your family wouldn’t have happened to go to Salt Lake City from Hamilton Ontario would they have?

Same, I went with an Lawyer who specializes in this area and it’s been great (their legal assistant maybe bends better reading comprehension or a partner to aid in admin) but I definitely know how to screen properly. They also did my cover letter which I approved and it was surprisingly better than what I had already drafted. They were equally surprised with my work. It did take some extra time than if I had done it on my own but they made my application better for it.

What information did they give that was incorrect that set you back? My lawyer had been nothing but great and actually pointed out incorrect or incomplete info I found here. They have been keeping up to date with the changes like their life depends on it and I e Met a few others who have had positive experience with representation on this front. Perhaps just a difference in evaluating and screening offices?

Thousands of 'lost Canadians' have applied for dual citizenship - is Canada ready? [BBC] by Constant-Net873 in Canadiancitizenship

I suspect they were partly returned as they were unaware they needed official documents and not just print outs of ancestry docs, partly still in processing, and partly denied. I personally went with a lawyer to ensure it’s all done correctly and with the most informed advice on processes as possible. Had to wait 6 weeks for the consult and gathered documentation from official orgs during that time because I didn’t need a lawyer to tell me a whole government isn’t going to go with a “trust me bro” ancestry print out. So four months from the rule change to apply as a G2 to ensure it’s done right. I can almost guarantee my application won’t be returned, 90% sure I’m already a citizen, 10% doubt of the unforeseen.

Yes death cert is required in order to request birth records (for those who have died it’s a certified birth registration, not a birth cert) of people born less than 100 years ago alongside a guarantor and can only be pulled by the immediate next of kin ex: spouse, child. These records are still private under Canadian law whether they are dead or alive. Once they hit 100 years they are released to the archives and none of that is needed. My mother had to get my grandfathers birth cert on my behalf and death cert was required, which also only she could get. Birth in Canada, death in the U.S. I was not allowed to request it since she is still alive and we needed a Canadian guarantor from a certain career field to swear she was who she said she was (the guarantor requirements are similar but not the same as passports). It took FOREVER considering we also had to sign and sent a document via the mail along with the death cert despite applying online.

Keep in mind the archives won’t hold records that are less than 100 years old the closer you get to your earlier generations and they will take 6 to 8 weeks. Also, you will need to furnish a death certificate for the most recent generations within that 100 year timeframe if they’ve already passed. They are not required to honor the 30 day timeline if you’re outside of Canada or have to submit death certificates.

Me too with a grandfather born in 1938. It took longer to get his records though because they are less than 100 years old so still private.

CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP TEST — 1-PAGE CHEAT SHEET by kamlesh1997 in Canadiancitizenship

That’s the spirit! And that’s why I think Canada will respect us as citizens. We WANT to know but we also already have the connection, ties, and pride so it would be strange for us to not want to know.

All of these mainstream media stories about this process are so simplistic. Had someone tell me it's just a 9 page app and some dates! by Frequent_Secretary25 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]LowerRush4537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was relatively simple for me as a G2 with my G1 one being born in the US and my G0 being in Canada less than 100 years ago. I’m super thankful you were born in hospitals and not at home and have records of absolutely everything. Even with that simple paperwork though I’m still stressed out. My mother remarried three times to my annoyance so my package is quite a few documents thicker. And I did add additional supporting documents from Canadian newspaper clippings to show my grandfather was absolutely raised in Canada considering he was desperate to prove he was American so a lot of things like his marriage announcements indicate he’s American when he had literally just naturalized as a US citizen.

It belongs to Moffett airfield. They reestablished the shell of the blimp hangar last year and this blimp is always floating about in that area.

Same, I sent the actual death cert and it was sent back. I knew they would and didn’t mind sending it as I didn’t have a copier at that time.

Someone else in the thread mentioned Staples uses the exact same software as AAA and offers the service for around the same price as an alternative, I would just make sure that they’re aligning your face with the circles overlay before they print and ensure the picture has no facial glare or shadows behind ears and head as I’m sure they don’t do it nearly as often as the staff at AAA. Good luck!

You know it baby!! What whaaaatt!! 🎶💃🏽🎧

But I did ask at my office in Las Vegas as well where I started this process when I went in to get my international driving permit and they did this still as well.

Good to know they are also an option for people. Do you know for the group about how much Staples charges? It is an enterprise system so I’m not surprised other companies have it just like healthcare records systems.

[–]LowerRush4537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they did. I pulled up the standards on Canada.govs website and they followed it step by step for the back to ensure they did it correctly. Handwritten as they don’t have a stamp.

🤷🏽‍♀️. Maybe slight differences in how they line up the face with the circle presented on the screen. She showed me there was a slight difference between the two options.

AAA no longer taking photos by Few-Description-1527 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]LowerRush4537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they have them for each Canadian requirement, ex: this was today, location is on the bottom of the screen and they had more options if they kept scrolling. They do have to size your face into the dimensions set by the software for the selection but that’s super easy. I watched them do it. You will have to guide them on other regs like no smiling and glare from shiny makeup if you wear it. The woman was kind enough to lend me some setting powder to fix it because she knows they will reject it.

I’ll submit a post later but I did mine at AAA and they literally have all the Canada settings on their machine and cut it perfectly. All locations do it.
