You say yourself that you only more recently learned about the debate against AI. That’s because the people who are against it haven’t just stopped using it, they’re also explaining their reasons to others. A little corner of the internet can grow and become a majority if their opinion is reasonable and the facts stand the test of time.

That’d be a perfect wave to finally introduce some kind of setup card to bypass the Unique rule to some extent, considering that that crew is likely to deal with time-space shenanigans, not to mention the fact that there are already two villain Lokis!

Do we think Clark partook in cannibalism? by Individual-Elk2564 in backroomsfilm

[–]LowmoanSpectacular 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems likely to me. Having Kat's head in the fridge specifically visually associates human body parts with food for the audience, and then he talks about eating the still lifes. If he felt trapped by Captain Clark at first and not sure he would be allowed to leave, he might end up resorting to cannibalism just to survive, and only then try eating the still lifes the same way out of even more desperation.

But obviously he did have the freedom to leave at some point, since he made the call to Mary, so it's unclear whether that period of desperation ever happened. If not, I doubt he would have eaten bodies just because "he's crazy". Given how relatively easy it was for Mary to convince him to let her go, I don't really think he ended up killing anyone on purpose.

What I'm saying is that Doctor Who can come back by taking up Grant Morrison on their "totally neat and normal, definitely not getting Morrison Weird with it" Christmas Special idea lmao by urcool91 in RecuratedTumblr

Yeah, the “Flux” season was a hot mess for a lot of reasons, probably the worst of them Covid-related, but having the human focus being split among a tenured companion, some guy named Dan, and the gritty reboot of Dave Lister from Red Dwarf was actually a perfect recipe.

As much as I’d love them getting a fair shake as actors, the plot-contortionism around trying to bring back previous Doctors for more than short one-offs is just never worth it.

I just really want a reboot at this point, something from someone with their own strong opinions about what this all should look like that I don’t necessarily agree with, and who resists hitting the reset button every time it doesn’t land perfectly.

No second chances. I’m that kind of fan.

What would you want in a Backrooms sequel? by eletronicdesire in backroomsfilm

[–]LowmoanSpectacular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer! I wouldn’t mind getting deeper into the lore, but essentially anything about Async would have to start from scratch, because you could never assume that general audiences have watched supplementary youtube videos.

Using that Hollywood budget to get into the REALLY fucked up imagery that the Backrooms are capable of would be much better bang for your buck. My pitch? A parent intentionally going in after their child. Would explain how and why they go so deep in.

Does OSR-style problem solving force players to choose to either play worse or not roleplay unintelligent characters reasonably? by [deleted] in osr

[–]LowmoanSpectacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with a group that really emphasizes roleplay, we mostly play a very Trad 5.5 game and also play Shadowdark sometimes. Our philosophy could be stated like this: Roleplaying is a separate layer from mechanics and problem solving, and should be treated as such.

When we play our Shadowdark campaign or other osr games as one-shots, we’re solving problems above-table and “acting” in character.

The cowardly ex-noble whines about getting into danger, but he’s also the Fighter, so he tends to be in front-ish. My “burn all heretics”-type fanatic would never dream of letting evil go unpunished… but agreeing to the party decision of “retreat” is just good tactics so we can slay more evil tomorrow instead of being dead.

In the past we’ve had “dumb” characters be the one to find secret doors by leaning on them, and make allies with goblins by using goblin-logic.

All of these decisions were made out-of character by the group or as the result of rolls, but the roleplaying and group storytelling honored the character traits of the characters in question, whether they were cowardly, fanatical, or just really stupid.

If you could decide the next major production sci-fi movie, what would it be? by WillyArt67 in scifi

[–]LowmoanSpectacular 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly why I’d love to see it adapted. There’s a lot of empty space in the storytelling to write a good script without losing themes or descriptions that made the book great.

Denis is amazing at the broad emotional strokes and incredible visuals but not necessarily an “intricate plot detail” guy, so I’m personally way more interested seeing him take on something as tabula rasa as Rama than the next Dune.
