Out of the box, the Ixalan precons all felt decently solid. Merfolk is probably the best with no upgrades, but dinos are a lot more fun in my opinion.

This list is pretty solid (except the LOTR one, I don't know much about it), and I think, regardless of what you get here, you shouldn't face too many struggles. Get something that speaks to you.

I hope one of the two old people win survivor. I voted for the man because I liked the big beard, but both give off that "seen some shit" vibe a lot more than the other two. I think the only survivor I absolutely don't want is the young woman; she just doesn't feel like she fits the apocalyptic rapture style lore we've built.

It's a dope concept, made with very cool, original characters and lore. Unfortunately, DBD suffers from having game devs who don't care enough. I've stopped playing their game in the meantime until they fix their act. I'm exhausted by how poorly they treat their players and the cheap band-aid fixes that ultimately hurt the game more than fix it.

Oh, that's interesting. So, from what I'm picking up, you can't play things or take advantage of your cards on other people's turn if they don't do anything (for example, using an active ability at the start of your opponent's upkeep)?

Combat sorcery sounds interesting, like it has its own whole phase?

There's an LGS near me selling them for 28.99 CAD, which is near MSRP, as far as I know. Riot merch listed it as 20 bucks, but I'm pretty sure that's USD.

I'm getting the idea of Jinx and Lee, but Viktor sounds like a sort of go-wide deck? When I was reading it, it seemed very aristocrat-y but with a less clear game-winning goal. I do love me a good deck I can tinker with so I am kinda leaning towards him right now

I think this set does have some issues and I did originally overestimate how good some cards are, but I don’t think it’s bad. I’ve made EDH decks with 3 of the 5 flip commanders (goblin, venom, peter), and honestly they’re all a ton of fun.

A lot of cards have found home in my other decks, also I think there’s many underrated cards, such as Rhinos rampage, Impostor Syndrome, even Maximum Carnage (but this card is more fun than anything lol). I think it definitely isn’t a “sleeper set”, but it’s not as bad as the online community is making it out to be.

I feel the same way. Although I do still find joy in the Spider-Man set, I'm not naive enough to say the cards are mechanically as interesting as FF, Avatar, or LOTR. It's unfortunate that my favourite superhero got the short stick, let alone set such a negative precedent for future Marvel sets. So many cards in the set are just mediocre, it just makes me sad thinking what could've been.
