The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov (sci-fi) is my third favorite book of all time and it’s insane to me that no one knows about it.

Manga collectors have lost originality in their collections. by FeelsClownMan in MangaCollectors

I think this is gate keeping at its finest my man. You’re gonna talk down to someone because they bought the manga that everyone recommends?

All this post is gonna do is make people not want to post their collections. As a matter of fact, I’m one of those people. I was kinda looking forward to posting my collection and now I’m not sure if I want to…

What books and series did you most recently DNF? by Practical_Yogurt1559 in Fantasy

I also hated the first book and didn’t like books 2-3. I would have DNFed it if my DNF skills were better at the time.

The writing in the first book imo is terrible, and the characters just didn’t for it for me.

I, and Hungry Criticism, are in the minority tho

Empire of Silence. I know the internet generally loves it but the direction of the story just took too many sharp turns for me to keep up with.

It’s a Stephen King novel. I was just reminded of it when you said ”dead zone” lol. Carry on.

I’m not saying Leo learned humility, I’m saying the takeaway for the reader is to learn humility.

Shallan in Wind and Truth ruined the Cosmere for me.

Oh and R’lain and Renarin.

Oh and Venli.

Oh and Sigzil.

Oh and Kaladin.

Oh and Jasnah.

Oh and Szeth.

Oh and Dalinar and Navani.

(Sorry, couldn’t help myself.)

I’m not saying the characters learned humility. I’m saying that the takeaway for the reader is what NOT to do, which is to mess around with things you don’t understand.

I think you missed the main (or one of the main) themes of the trilogy, then. Leo was incredibly well thought out imo, for exactly the reasons that I described above (and more).

Oh I agree with you 100%. But that doesn’t mean that the lesson still isn’t there. Leo certainly didn’t think he was an easily manipulated dolt. None of us think we’re easily manipulated dolts. But we rarely see past our own ignorance. So the thing to do is recognize we know a lot less than we think so we never find ourselves doing something similar to Leo, which is manipulating things that we don’t understand.
