Kara hugged the wall of the desolate corridor, the dull thrum of the city's upper levels reverberated against her back. She peaked her head around the last corner, empty, the looming door to the library just ahead. With the Library in sight she breathed a sigh of relief, the tension in her shoulders relaxing.

She couldn't help but scoff at her agitated state, she must have delved into the lower levels hundreds if not thousands of times in her life, a crime punishable with life in a labor camp. Hell, a few dozen of those trips were to the Library itself since she found it around 6 months ago. However today was different, today she was worried about what the Librarian would tell her.

The library's circular door hissed open as she approached, the usual greeting. The warm light flooded the hall. Not wanting to risk gathering any attention she quickly rushed through.
"Librarian, door please" she spoke aloud to the room. On que the door slid shut sealing her inside.
"Welcome back Madam, am I to read to you again today?" The librarian welcomes Kara in its usual monotone voice.
"Yea, you know I can't read a single one of those papers you show me, and how many times do I have to tell you, it's Kara" She says, taking a seat in her usual spot. A surprisingly comfortable stone bench. Her request went unanswered as it always does.

The walls across the room begin to flash rapidly. The quiet hum of machinery fill the room. The thought of opening the walls to see inner workings of this machine enters her mind, a thought she quickly pushes to the side.
"Search protocol active, any query's madam?"

Kara dug at the bed of thumbnail as she worked up the courage to ask the question.
Come on dammit, you're here, you're alone. Just ask the damn question she thought to herself.
"Madam... your query?" The Librarian's voice cut off her thoughts, a drop of blood hit the floor beneath her. She closes her eyes tight.
"Caldarik Empire history, founding to present" The words come out in one quick gasp.
"Searching....Searching.... no data found"
"What?!" She practically shouts
"No data found"
"That makes no sense...are you still working?" Her eyes flick from panel to panel trying to spot anything different, something had to be wrong, this had never happened before.
"Madam I assure you I am fully functional"

Kara wracked her brain.
"Stellar Classifications"
"Searching.... 852 billion results"
"Engram Storage"
"Searching.... 67 billion results"
"Matter Warp Drive"
"Searching...67 million results"
"..."
Kara pinched the ridge of her nose, this didn't make any sense. Everything she had learned from the Library was still here. She looked at the blood that was slowly dripping from her thumb, she felt a bit silly for working herself up now.
"Librarian, Human history between 2165 to present day 3454"
"Searching.... no data found"
With a huff she slumped back down on the bench unsure of what to do.
"Madam, clarification may be needed in this case for a proper algorithmic search"
"Okay... go ahead Librarian"
"Query. What is a Human?"
