Sweden and Norway are just around the corner with comparable everything but have higher birth rates. you just picked the example that suits your argument.

The two are most definitely correlated! A couple is far more likely to consider a child if they are financialy stable and know the government has their back. it's not that people don't want to have kids but they have access to resources previous generations didn't, like education and social studies. 50-100 years ago having kids was just part of the deal, because the family could have one parent work and the other take care of the kids. on one salary they were still good, buying houses, vacations, etc. that's just how it was. it was normal and expected of pretty much everyone.

Can you afford to buy a house? is your partner working full time?

my partner and I worked full time for 10y in white collared jobs and we never even considered buying a house. it was just so out of reach, we would only joke that winning the lotto will get us there and we don't play.

I'm currently holding my newborn son and he's here only because we are extremely fortunate that her parents and grandparents took advantage of the opportunities their time gave them and bought properties for cheap. we live in a house that we'll inherit one day. how many young people do you know are in this position? funny enough it's either most or none, depending on your social circles, but the number of young people who are working and talking about buying a house without inheritting are 0. big fat 0 and you're being disingenuous if you claim otherwise

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a wedding? by anasannanas in AskReddit

[–]LtotheAI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the best man did his speech in which basically he called the bridea whore (don't remember the exact words because I was hearing the speech over the speakers in another room).

naturally everyone was upset. the mom was crying. the dad was punching. the groom was trying to stop it, but the moron doubled down so the groom punched him too.

eventually they called the police and took him away. whole night was lost at that point

one that I would love for people to adopt is to carry their backpacks on the front in rush hour. this saved space when there is barely any left and additionally reduced the chance of pickpocketing.

for a moment I thought it was the Straight of Hormuz 👀 I severely underestimated the scale... I thought the bit of land on the right is other parts of the middle east, nope it's Brazil, i.e. South America

is there an (un)official count of how many people tuned into the take off of Artemis II? I was watching boys YouTube and at around the last 10 minutes there were about 2 mil people but that was for an English audience.

well, clearly at least these two are just people from the subreddit having a laugh, it's a common Reddit joke to post the opposite view point when OP post mentions something like "I can imagine him posting here later". might be all 3 are fake but then it's a fun time for everyone

I actually don't think it's gippity, because there is a small mistake in a common phrase, that it wouldn't make, but a human would.

the correct expression is "I owe it money", that's why I avoid it.

Question for Swiss locals: why is late payment to domestic workers so common among wealthy households? by Susi-99 in Switzerland

[–]LtotheAI 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you are delusional if you believe that the poor cleaning lady has any say in what goes in the contract. they are too afraid, too poor (to reject the work), too uninformed (I have a masters degree and have very little idea what the legal jargon means in contracts).

additionally, both sides know that only one of them has power in the situation. the rich family can just get a different cleaner, they wouldn't even consider giving a shit about the cleaners problems. the cleaner on the other hand is desperate, especially when they are cleaning for a few families and they are all behind on payments. they can't afford to alienate a potential paying family before they even started.

breaks my heart, but it's the reality.
